Syrian Army troops take full control of al-Daba’a town

June 6, 2013

Syrian Army troops have taken control of al-Daba'a town in the central province of Homs, a day after they fully purged the strategic border town of al-Qusayr from foreign-sponsored militants.

On Thursday, Syrian troops liberated the town after fierce exchange of fire with the militants.

Syria’s state television reported on Wednesday that Syrian forces had regained full control of Qusayr following three weeks of fighting.

Many foreign-backed militants were killed or injured throughout the mop-up operations conducted by Syrian soldiers in the town.

The militants fled to farms and a nearby village. Reports indicate that peace and security have now been restored in the region.

Syrian troops backed by the forces of Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah entered Qusayr from several directions on May 19.

Qusayr had been an important center and supply route for the foreign-sponsored militants fighting against the Damascus government.

Syria has been gripped by a deadly unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of government forces, have been killed in the violence.

Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.

The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are supporting the militants.

Several international human rights organizations have accused militants operating in Syria of committing war crimes.

Syrian Army recaptures key Golan Heights crossing

June 6, 2013

Syrian army troops have established control over a key crossing in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights shortly after it fell into the hands of foreign-backed militants.

On Thursday, Syrian forces liberated the Quneitra Crossing - situated between Syria and the Golan Heights - after heavy clashes with anti-government gunmen.

Earlier in the day, Israeli media reported that foreign-backed militants had seized the crossing.

Meanwhile, Austria has announced that it will withdraw its peacekeepers from the UN monitoring force on the Golan Heights in wake of ongoing battles in the area.

Austrians account for about 380 of the 1,000-strong United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), and their departure will deal a serious blow to the mission.

Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria during the Six-Day War of 1967, when it also took control of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

It annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, although the move was never recognized by the international community and was a violation of international law.

The Israeli regime has used various means to help the foreign-sponsored militants in Syria, including the provision of medical assistance.

Also on Thursday, the Syrian troops recaptured the town of al-Daba’a. This came after the Army liberated the strategic town of Qusayr on Wednesday following three weeks of fighting with the militants.

Syria has been gripped by a deadly unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of government forces, have been killed in the violence.

Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.

Latest News Syria: How Al-Qseir Fell under Syrian Army’s Control

Syria.Quseir.jpg

Al-Qseir is considered the demographic and geographic nested corridor between the middle of Syria and the Lebanese-Hermel region.

The broad region in terms of space, is a plain area with extended edges. It is also punctuated by strategic hill in the western countryside called Prophet Mando's hill, and the so-called Barrier "14" in the eastern rural area of al-Qseir that oversees the José border crossing.

The army surprisingly launched a cleansing campaign to the rural areas of the Western al-Qseir region, that were under the control of al-Nusra Front and the armed groups.

The surprising operation had specific goals. The vanguards of the Syrian army began to flood towards al-Qseir from the Homs- Damascus highway, that links the capital Damascus to the Syrian coast cities of Tartous and Banias and Jableh and Latakia.

Columns of infantry troops led by engineering units began to dismantle improvised explosive devices at the entrances of the villages and towns. Then, the troops entered, adopting new tactics, away from the classic ways accredited by regular armies.
In details, they relied on the Special Unit's swift and rapid strikes, which dealt with each goal individually and separately from the other.

The Syrian Army's control operations started particularly when the units cleansed Abl village i.e. near the International Damascus-Homs highway. In a speedy and swift operation, the army succeeded in entering the town despite the powerful fortifications built by al-Nusra Front.

This progress formed the entrance to the army's movement towards the Western and Southern country sides of al-Qseir since the village is linked to both al-Qseir and the Lebanese borders, particularly Arsal area which has become an advanced base for supplying the militants in the region with weapons and insurgents.
From Abl, the Syrian Army moved to the strategic Prophet Mando's Hill, that oversees the countryside of al-Qseir.

The field's rules stated that the side that controls Prophet Mando's Hill is to impose its conditions and as well as the battle's rhythm. And this what happened, when the Syrian army controlled the region.
The Syrian army advanced in a well-rhythmic manner, and the movement of the troops was highly coordinated so that the units entered the villages and towns in the Western and Southern country sides of al-Qseir, respectively.

The surprise element was the most prominent in the battle, especially as the tactics of the army wasn't classical this time.

The armed groups thought that the battle will begin with the entrance of the Syrian army's armored vehicles. Thus, the militants resorted to booby-trapping and mining the roads leading to the villages.

However, the army units- led by the engineering units- entered under heavy fire cover. They dismantled the mines, opening the way to the Special Units. This led to the total confusion among the armed groups' militants.

The outcome of the battle was: al-Qseir region, the West of the Orontes River, became under the control of the Syrian army. They Syrian army managed to cut off roads of supply lines and smuggling of militants from the Lebanese territory, both from the Bekaa and North Lebanon.

This comes as the army continued to siege the armed groups in the region, which was the central point in the flow of arms and insurgents towards the central Syrian regions.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army continues to regain control of the east side of the Orontes River, preventing al-Qseir fighters from reaching the city of Homs and the Northern Damascus regions.

It is worth mentioning that the militants had tried to expel the people of these villages, in an attempt to turn into al-Nusra Front's camps, given that the region extends to the Lebanese Jose and al-Qaa region.

Those strategic points resembled a point of concentration for the armed groups [training the insurgents and treating the wounded before being transferred to Syria through illegal crossings, extending all along the East Lebanese Mountain to reach Tel Kalakh].

It is worth mentioning that that Syrian Army's morale is very high, due to the success of the plans and the precise and thoughtful achievement of the operation as well as the careful coordination between the army units.

In conclusion, al-Qsseir's battle is one of the most strategic operation that the Syrian Army performed in parallel to cleansing Damascus country sides as well as south and east of Aleppo.

As a reminder: Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government. Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad. C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

'Russian-made cluster bombs'...

cluster.US.angry_that_afghans_banned_cluster_bombs.jpg

'Syrian government forces have used Russian-made cluster bombs on populated areas in their effort to push back rebel advances along the country's main north-south highway', according to Human Rights Watch. The Syrian Army denied using cluster bombs in its fights against terrorists and by US. armed groups in Syria.

Western human rights organizations as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, have very good relations with the US State Department.

Suzanne Nossel previously of the US State Department, is now executive director of Amnesty International USA.

U.S. angry that Afghans banned cluster bombs

December 6, 2010

A secret cable describes how the Bush-era State Department labored to keep the controversial weapons in Afghanistan...

The 2,000-pound "smart" bomb that killed two U.S. special forces troops and injured 20 others in Afghanistan on December 5, 2001 is one of the most modern and precise weapons in America's military arsenal. Such "JDAMs" (joint direct attack munitions) bombs, which are dropped in both 1,000-pound and 2,000-pound versions, were developed after the 1991 Gulf War for more precise day and night use against ground targets through fog, clouds or other bad weather. A JDAM cluster is shown in this undated Air Force photograph. REUTERS/USAF/Handout RC/SV(Credit: © Reuters Photographer / Reuters)

Here’s another WikiLeaked cable that offers an unfiltered look at a little-discussed aspect of American foreign policy: the Bush-era State Department panicked in 2008 after Afghanistan unexpectedly signed an international treaty banning cluster bombs, with the U.S. fearing that the military could no longer store and use the controversial weapons in Afghanistan.

The December 2008 cable followed an international summit at which Afghanistan and over 90 other countries — not including the U.S. — signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), which ban the use of bombs that scatter so-called bomblets over a wide area. Some of the bomblets typically do not explode, creating a deadly hazard for civilians that can last for many years.

Because the treaty prohibits not only the use of cluster bombs, but also the storage of the munitions, the State Department was worried about the fate of the American store of the bombs in Afghanistan. So Washington sent a note to the embassy in Kabul to pressure the Afghan government on this point:

The U.S. Government believes Article 21 of the Convention provides the flexibility for signatories to continue to cooperate and conduct operations with U.S. forces, and in turn for U.S. forces to store, transfer, and use U.S. cluster munitions in the territory of a State Party. The Department requests that Post approach appropriate interlocutors at the Afghan Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense to urge Kabul to interpret Article 21 in a similar manner, minimizing any potential impact of Afghanistan,s signature of the Convention on U.S. operations and military cooperation. Given the political sensitivities in Afghanistan surrounding cluster munitions as well as air and artillery strikes in general, the Department believes that a low-profile approach will be the best way to ensure a common understanding that the CCM does not impede military planning and operations between our two governments.

Remarkably, one of the U.S. talking points argued that the use of cluster bombs would actually reduce civilian casualties (emphasis added).

Not allowing the use of cluster munitions will increases risk to Coalition forces engaged in combat from enemy counter-fire, reduce responsiveness, decrease the number of different targets that can be attacked within a specified timeframe, and will substantially increase risks of collateral damage by requiring usage of a greater number of large, unitary warheads to accomplish the same mission.

The Guardian has more on how the U.S. also labored to keep cluster munitions in Britain, which, like Afghanistan, signed the treaty.

Who's responsible for terrorist attacks and the suffering of the Syrian people ?

Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain would step up its support for the armed groups in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million). The money is used for bomb attacks in Syria.

Alleppo: Syrian army has retaken full control

Armed Forces Continue Chasing Terrorist Groups .jpg

The Syrian army has retaken full control of a barracks in the flashpoint city of Aleppo after days of fierce clashes with armed groups fighting against the government.

A Syrian military official said on Monday that the army is now in full control of the Hanano barracks in east Aleppo, which serves as a weapons storage depot, conscript recruitment center and the headquarters of the local branch of the military police and riot police.

On Friday, anti-Damascus insurgents claimed to have taken control of parts of the base.

"The Syrian army is in total control of the Hanano barracks after fighting which came to a complete halt during the night," the source said from inside the barracks.

Meanwhile, there are reports of clashes between government troops and foreign-backed insurgents in other parts of Aleppo, including Mysar and Qadi Askar.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011.

Damascus blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists for the unrest while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the violence.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside and accuses certain Arab and Western countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, of arming and funding insurgent fighting against the government.
