Latest News Syria: ‘Chemical weapons’ – Heavy weapons for Idris

It is clear that the whole current debate about the ‘use of chemical weapons by the Syrian army’, is set up to deliver heavy weapons to the so called Free Syrian Army and some terrorist groups. The decision to deliver more heavy weapons was taken on March 6, 2013, that is 4 months before the current false accusations...

Photo: March 6, 2013. Chief of Staff of the so called ‘Free Syrian Army’ Gen. Salim Idris and Guy Verhofstadt, MEP and President of ALDE Group, at the European Parliament in Brussels. Idris said that his army needed the West to supply “weapons and ammunition” so that his forces can “defend themselves”. Verhofstadt was pleading for the supply of heavy weapons to the mercenary army of Idris. Verhofstadt: “The time for peace talks is over, we need action now. If the UN doesn’t react, then NATO should.”

The so called 'Free Syrian Army' always has rejected any proposal for peace talks and since 2 years, the U.S. and its satellites provide Idris and the terrorist groups with weapons wich are also used for terrorist attacks.

Verhofstadt is a good friend of Etienne Davignon, former president of the Bilderberg Group and ‘Friends of Europe’.

In 2004, Verhofstadt was suggested as a candidate to replace Romano Prodi as the next President of the European Commission. In the 2009 European Parliament election, he has been put forward as the possible candidate for replacing José Manuel Barroso as the president of the European Commission.

Since 2012 is Verhofstadt a Board Member of the Brussels-based, Brussels-quoted Sofina holding (petroleum gas and oil platforms).  Etienne Davignon is Honorary Director of Sofina.

Davignon, former president of the Bilderberg Club, is Chairman of Compagnie Maritime Belge, Compagnie des Wagons-Lits, Recticel, Sibeka, CSR Europe, SN Airholding and Palais des Beaux-Arts (Belgium). He is Vice-Chairman of SUEZ-TRACTEBEL (Belgium), Director of Accor (France), Cumerio, Real Software, SN Brussels Airlines (Belgium), and Gilead (United States).
According to the Suez website, he holds 11,111 Suez shares, which are currently worth more than 350,000 euro.

The Bilderberg Club is an annual private conference of approximately 120 to 140 invited guests from North America and Europe, most of whom are people of influence. About one-third are from government and politics, and two-thirds from finance, industry, labour, education and communications.

Latest News Syria: Interview Given by President al-Assad (2)

Interview Given by President al-Assad to Lebanese Al-Manar TV

May 30, 2013

Al-Manar: But, Mr. President, the nature of the battle that you and Hezbollah are waging in Al-Qseir seems, to your critics, to take the shape of a safe corridor connecting the coastal region with Damascus. Consequently, if Syria were to be divided, or if geographical changes were to be enforced, this would pave the way for an Alawite state. So, what is the nature of this battle, and how is it connected with the conflict with Israel.

President Assad: First, the Syrian and Lebanese coastal areas are not connected through Al-Qseir. Geographically this is not possible. Second, nobody would fight a battle in order to move towards separation. If you opt for separation, you move towards that objective without waging battles all over the country in order to be pushed into a particular corner. The nature of the battle does not indicate that we are heading for division, but rather the opposite, we are ensuring we remain a united country. Our forefathers rejected the idea of division when the French proposed this during their occupation of Syria because at the time they were very aware of its consequences. Is it possible or even fathomable that generations later, we their children, are less aware or mindful? Once again, the battle in Al-Qseir and all the bemoaning is related to Israel. The timing of the battle in Al-Qseir was synchronized with the Israeli airstrike. Their objective is to stifle the resistance. This is the same old campaign taking on a different form. Now what’s important is not al-Qseir as a town, but the borders; they want to stifle the resistance from land and from the sea. Here the question begs itself - some have said that the resistance should face the enemy and consequently remain in the south. This was said on May 7, 2008, when some of Israel’s agents in Lebanon tried to tamper with the communications system of the resistance; they claimed that the resistance turned its weapons inwards. They said the same thing about the Syrian Army; that the Syrian Army should fight on the borders with Israel. We have said very clearly that our Army will fight the enemy wherever it is. When the enemy is in the north, we move north; the same applies if the enemy comes from the east or the west. This is also the case for Hezbollah. So the question is why is Hezbollah deployed on the borders inside Lebanon or inside Syria? The answer is that our battle is a battle against the Israeli enemy and its proxies inside Syria or inside Lebanon.

Al-Manar: Mr. President, if I might ask about Israel’s involvement in the Syrian crisis through the recent airstrike against Damascus. Israel immediately attached certain messages to this airstrike by saying it doesn’t want escalation or doesn’t intend to interfere in the Syrian crisis. The question is: what does Israel want and what type of interference?

President Assad: This is exactly my point. Everything that is happening at the moment is aimed, first and foremost, at stifling the resistance. Israel’s support of the terrorists was for two purposes. The first is to stifle the resistance; the second is to strike the Syrian air defense systems. It is not interested in anything else.

Al-Manar: Mr. President, since Israel’s objectives are clear, the Syrian state was criticized for its muted response. Everyone was expecting a Syrian response, and the Syrian government stated that it reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time and place. Why didn’t the response come immediately? And is it enough for a senior source to say that missiles have been directed at the Israeli enemy and that any attack will be retaliated immediately without resorting to Army command?

President Assad: We have informed all the Arab and foreign parties - mostly foreign - that contacted us, that we will respond the next time. Of course, there has been more than one response. There have been several Israeli attempted violations to which there was immediate retaliation. But these short-term responses have no real value; they are only of a political nature. If we want to respond to Israel, the response will be of strategic significance.

Al-Manar: How? By opening the Golan front, for instance?

President Assad: This depends on public opinion, whether there is a consensus in support of the resistance or not. That’s the question. Al-Manar: How is the situation in Syria now?

President Assad: In fact, there is clear popular pressure to open the Golan front to resistance. This enthusiasm is also on the Arab level; we have received many Arab delegations wanting to know how young people might be enrolled to come and fight Israel. Of course, resistance is not easy. It is not merely a question of opening the front geographically. It is a political, ideological, and social issue, with the net result being military action.

Al-Manar: Mr. President, if we take into account the incident on the Golan Heights and Syria’s retaliation on the Israeli military vehicle that crossed the combat line, does this mean that the rules of engagement have changed? And if the rules of the game have changed, what is the new equation, so to speak?

President Assad: Real change in the rules of engagement happens when there is a popular condition pushing for resistance. Any other change is short-term, unless we are heading towards war. Any response of any kind might only appear to be a change to the rules of engagement, but I don’t think it really is. The real change is when the people move towards resistance; this is the really dramatic change.

Al-Manar: Don’t you think that this is a little late? After 40 years of quiet and a state of truce on the Golan Heights, now there is talk of a movement on that front, about new equations and about new rules of the game?

President Assad: They always talk about Syria opening the front or closing the front. A state does not create resistance. Resistance can only be called so, when it is popular and spontaneous, it cannot be created. The state can either support or oppose the resistance, - or create obstacles, as is the case with some Arab countries. I believe that a state that opposes the will of its people for resistance is reckless. The issue is not that Syria has decided, after 40 years, to move in this direction. The public’s state of mind is that our National Army is carrying out its duties to protect and liberate our land. Had there not been an army, as was the situation in Lebanon when the army and the state were divided during the civil war, there would have been resistance a long time ago. Today, in the current circumstances, there are a number of factors pushing in that direction. First, there are repeated Israeli aggressions that constitute a major factor in creating this desire and required incentive. Second, the army’s engagement in battles in more than one place throughout Syria has created a sentiment on the part of many civilians that it is their duty to move in this direction in order to support the Armed Forces on the Golan.

Al-Manar: Mr. President, Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would not hesitate to attack Syria if it detected that weapons are being conveyed to Hezbollah in Lebanon. If Israel carried out its threats, I want a direct answer from you: what would Syria do?

President Assad: As I have said, we have informed the relevant states that we will respond in kind. Of course, it is difficult to specify the military means that would be used, that is for our military command to decide. We plan for different scenarios, depending on the circumstances and the timing of the strike that would determine which method or weapons.

Al-Manar: Mr. President, after the airstrike that targeted Damascus, there was talk about the S300 missiles and that this missile system will tip the balance. Based on this argument, Netanyahu visited Moscow. My direct question is this: are these missiles on their way to Damascus? Is Syria now in possession of these missiles?

President Assad: It is not our policy to talk publically about military issues in terms of what we possess or what we receive. As far as Russia is concerned, the contracts have nothing to do with the crisis. We have negotiated with them on different kinds of weapons for years, and Russia is committed to honoring these contracts. What I want to say is that neither Netanyahu’s visit nor the crisis and the conditions surrounding it have influenced arms imports. All of our agreements with Russia will be implemented, some have been implemented during the past period and, together with the Russians, we will continue to implement these contracts in the future.

Al-Manar: Mr. President, we have talked about the steadfastness of the Syrian leadership and the Syrian state. We have discussed the progress being achieved on the battlefield, and strengthening the alliance between Syria and the resistance. These are all within the same front. From another perspective, there is diplomatic activity stirring waters that have been stagnant for two and a half years. Before we talk about this and about the Geneva conference and the red lines that Syria has drawn, there was a simple proposition or a simple solution suggested by the former head of the coalition, Muaz al-Khatib. He said that the president, together with 500 other dignitaries would be allowed to leave the country within 20 days, and the crisis would be over. Why don’t you meet this request and put an end to the crisis?

President Assad: I have always talked about the basic principle: that the Syrian people alone have the right to decide whether the president should remain or leave. So, anybody speaking on this subject should state which part of the Syrian people they represent and who granted them the authority to speak on their behalf. As for this initiative, I haven’t actually read it, but I was very happy that they allowed me 20 days and 500 people! I don’t know who proposed the initiative; I don’t care much about names.

Latest News Syria: Europe's 'political solution'

The European Union decided to expand the economic siege against the Syrian people for an extra 12-month and to lift the siege on exporting weapons to the Syrian insurgents...

European Council on Foreign Affairs

'Syria: towards a political solution'...

... 'The prospect of arming the opposition raises concerns inside and outside the country. Channelling weapons into the country would likely set the scene for an even deeper and long-lasting civil conflict with very uncertain regional consequences (particularly given the indeterminate nature of many of the country’s armed groups). Though unarmed civilians continue to bear the devastating brunt of the crackdown, expanding and supporting armed resistance would invite even wider violence. Moreover, unless foreign backers were prepared to provide artillery and air capabilities, arming the opposition is unlikely to change the balance of power. It is more likely that arming the opposition may further empower the regime by discrediting the opposition among Syrians still on the fence, while also providing justification to the regime (and its international backers) to continue using violence. Finally, air strikes remain deeply problematic because of both Syria’s strong Russian-supplied air defence systems and the complexity of a battle that is largely unfolding in urban environments.
All of these options, though opening the possibility of an eventual rebel victory, do so by enabling a wider militarisation of the conflict that is likely to be long and painful for much of the country’s population...'

NATO's war against Syria: missile batteries in Turkey

All NATO Patriot batteries in Turkey operational

The final of six Patriot missile batteries deployed to Turkey was declared operational under NATO command and control on Friday, 15 February 2013.

The battery, provided by the United States, is located outside the city of Gaziantep.

Germany, the Netherlands and the United States provide two batteries each to augment Turkey’s air defences. The systems are deployed in Kahramanmaras, Adana, and Gaziantep. The first battery came online on 26 January.

In response to Turkey’s request, NATO Foreign Ministers decided on 4 December 2012 that NATO would “augment Turkey’s air defence capabilities…along the Alliance’s border.”

Syria: Hillary Clinton concerned about 'Russia’s growing influence'...

"There is a move to re-Sovietise the region"...

As reported by the Financial Times, on Thursday, hours before meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a news conference that the US is to prevent Russia from integrating more closely with its neighbors in Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

"There is a move to re-Sovietise the region," said the US Secretary of State. "It’s not going to be called that. It’s going to be called a customs union, it will be called Eurasian Union and all of that. But let's make no mistake about it. We know what the goal is and we are trying to figure out effective ways to slow down or prevent it."

On October 6, 2012, the Spanish government has agreed to participate in NATO's anti-missile shield that will see specialized United States warships based at a Spanish base already used by the U.S. Navy.

Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria said Spain and the U.S. had sealed the deal Friday to use the base in southwestern Spain as part of the shield, enabling four U.S. Navy destroyers and some 1,400 operators to be deployed at the base.
Moscow has long opposed the shield and called for binding guarantees from the U.S. and NATO that it will not target Russia.
The Pentagon also has units at Moron air base in southwest Spain, with a presence of some 4,250 military personnel and 1,000 civilians in the country.

Syrian News Agency Sana no longer exists for Google

Barack Obama speaking at Google HQ in 2007.jpg

Google is actually censoring the news of the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA.

That's not coming as a complete surprise.

On 3.14.2012, America's Defense Department’s best-known geek announced that she was leaving the Pentagon for a job at Google. Google is actually censoring the news of the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA.

Google censorship comes just at the moment that France and Britain have recognized the so called 'opposition' as the 'legal representative of the Syrian people'.
At the same time, Western press comes with the story that the 'Syrian rebels take an airbase in slow progress toward Damascus'.

NATO and its puppets of the western press, used the same scenario in the bombing and occupation of Libya.
So it is very clear that the censorship and misleading information are part of the western military 'offensive' and the terrorist bombs attacks of the small American-British mercenary army which were 'in the strongest terms condemned' by US Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Syria has previously seen large outages in July and August this year, each lasting less than an hour and only affecting targeted areas.

During the uprising in Egypt, four major internet service providers were cut off in the country during mass protests against the (American backed) then-President Hosni Mubarak. Egyptians quickly found ways around the blocks.

In Libya, internet blackouts were common in areas that were at the time still controlled by Colonel Gaddafi.

Some time ago, Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian armed groups and terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. Weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

U.S. backed terrorist bombings

Some months ago, Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists and C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and 'medical' working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

On October 4, 2012, Adm. George Stavridis, the commander of US European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in Ankara. The meeting took place at General Staff headquarters but was only announced to the public in a statement released by the General Staff some days later. The talks were closed to the press and the statement did not elaborate on what Stavridis and Ozel discussed. It proved once again that the Turkish government which is not supported by the Turkish population, is not only arming Syrian terrorists but organizes with its NATO allies (and with Israel in the background) also a real war against Syria.

Photo: Lebanon, bombed by Israeli forces. The New York Times reported that the Bush administration was rushing a shipment of bombs to Israel so it could continue its air assault against Lebanon: 'The Bush administration is rushing a delivery of precision-guided bombs to Israel, which requested the expedited shipment last week after beginning its air campaign against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, American officials said Friday.'  Three days later, Forbes reported that the Bush administration was also rushing humanitarian aid to Lebanon: 'President Bush has ordered helicopters and ships to Lebanon to provide humanitarian aid, but he still opposes an immediate cease-fire that could give relief from a 13-day-old Israeli bombing campaign. At the order of the president, humanitarian supplies will start arriving in Lebanon tomorrow by helicopter and by ship,” White House press secretary Tony Snow announced at the White House. “We are working with Israel and Lebanon to open up humanitarian corridors.”

Germans Protest Upcoming Visit of Turkish Premier over His Government's Human Rights Violation

Oct 31, 2012

BERLIN/ANKARA, (SANA) – Huge crowds gathered in front of Brandenburg Gate in the German Capital of Berlin to protest against the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Germany.

The protesters raised banners that criticize Erdogan's policies which violate human rights.

Earlier in the week, the Turkish security forces suppressed tens of thousands of Turks who joined massive popular protests against the attempts of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government to ban the celebration of the 89th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic.

The Turkish police clashed with Kurdish protesters on Tuesday near a prison in the city of Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey, where inmates are continuing their hunger strike for the 48th day in a row.

The Turkish Anadolu news agency said several thousand people joined the protest marching towards the prison and the police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protesters who reacted by throwing stones at the police personnel.

Shops were closed and the locals did not send their children to school in line with calls for a boycott.

The Anadolu agency also reported clashes in the city of Istanbul without reports on casualties. A protest also took place in Adana and most of shops closed in Van region.

Hundreds of Kurdish prisoners in dozens of Turkish jails have been on a hunger strike since September demanding increased rights for Kurds and improved conditions for the Kurdish detainees.

Council of the Turkish Peace and Democracy Party discussed the hunger strike issue and decided on many steps and activities in this regard, including declaring October 30 as a 'Resistance Day'.

The Council also decided sending messages to the Kurdish parties and human rights organizations in Europe and the UN and its bodies as well as heads of the European countries, the Turkish embassies, the U.S. Congress members and media channels to urge them to assume responsibility towards the prisoners who are on a hunger strike.

The Council said all organizations of the Peace and Democracy Party in all areas will lay black wreathes in front of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) centers in Turkey and will set up tents and organize oratorical events in solidarity with the hunger strikers.

For its part, the opposition Republican People's Party called on the Turkish public to be on the lookout towards the policy of the ruling AKP party which is trying to hold sway over the judiciary and the higher courts in the country.

Photo: Nazi Germany's V1, one of the first weapons of terror and mass destruction that terrorized and killed on the first place many civilians. It is clear that the dream of imposing The New Order which Nazi Germany wanted to impose on Europe, and eventually the rest of the world, is back.

From history: Germany - Turkey

Turkey was favoured as a potential ally by Hitler because of its important strategic location on the boundaries of Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as its extensive history as a state hostile against the Russian Empire as well as the later Soviet Union.
To assure that Germany wanted to work with them on a long-range basis, the Turks were guaranteed an equal status in the German-dominated order, and were promised a number of territories which they might desire for reasons of security. These encompassed Edirne (Adrianople) and a rectification of Turkish frontiers at the expense of Greece, the creation of buffer states in the Caucasus under Turkish influence, a rectification of the Turkish-Syrian frontier (the Baghdad Railway and the State of Aleppo) and the Turkish-Iraq frontier (the Mosul region), as well as a settlement of "the Aegean question" to provide Turkey with suitable protection against encroachments from Italy. The Black Sea (which Hitler derided as "a mere frog-pond")was also to be conceded to Turkey as part of its sphere of influence, for this would ne:gate the need of stationing a German navy in the region to replace the Soviet Black Sea Fleet.

In November 2005, an agreement was signed for the sale of 298 German Army Leopard 2A4 tanks to Turkey. Turkey’s tank fleet is currently made up of American M-48s and M-60s, some of which have been modernized with Israeli cooperation into M-60 Sabra tanks, plus a large contingent of German Leopard 1s and Leopard 2s. That is hardy surprising. America and Germany are Turkey’s 2 most important geopolitical relationships, and this is reflected in Turkey’s choice of defense industry partners. The country’s industrial offset requirements ensure that these manufacturers have a long history of local partnerships to draw upon.

Who's responsible for terrorist acts in Syria ?

1) Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

2) British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain would step up its support for the armed groups in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million). The money is used for bomb attacks in Syria.

3) An official source told a SANA reporter that the seized arms included Nato sniper rifles, machineguns, hunting rifles, explosive devices of various weights, devices for remote control detonation and an amount of batteries and electrical wires.

4) Belgian Senator Nele Lijnen said that she intends to launch a discussion at the Belgian Senate regarding the fact that the terrorists in Syria possess weapons made in Belgium.

5) The Swiss Authorities announced that they are investigating into information published by Sonntags Zeitung newspaper about hand grenades used by armed terrorist groups in Syria.

6) The weapons and military equipment recently discovered and seized by the Syrian Army in Idlib province proves NATO's arms and logistic support for terrorists in Syria.

7) The seized weapons in Salqain district in Idlib included 7.26 guns along with other weapons as well as boxes of gunshots with the words "NATO BALL" carved on them.

8) The Lebanese army intelligence has seized a large quantity of wea Lutfallah II container pons hidden inside cars aboard an Italian ship at Tripoli port, north of Lebanon, Lebanese security sources told Al-Manar TV.

9) This comes just days after the Lebanese Army Marines confiscated Lutfallah II arms shipment off the Lebanese port of Batoun while it was carrying 300,000 pounds of weapons within three containers. Reports said the cargo ship, which was flying the flag of Sierra-Leone, had left Libya and was bound to Syria.

10) Lebanese terrorist Mohammad Hussein Fares confessed to participating in smuggling weapons, militants and journalists into Syria and committing terrorists acts against Syrians.

11) Fares said that they smuggled assault rifles, RPG rounds, sniper rifles, LAW missiles, machineguns and cases of ammo, delivering them to Amoun, with al-Jarban coming later to distribute them among terrorists.

12) US, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are arming AL-QAEDA Terrorists to commit Terrorism in Syria

13) Over 30,000 various weapons have been channelled to Syria since unrest flared up there in April last year, Amin Khteit says. The overall amount of explosives makes up 300 tons. The deliveries were made by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They depend on the United States, which is making every effort to overpower Syria.

14) The authorities seized weapons smuggled from Turkey in Tal Abyad area on the Syrian-Turkish borders in Raqqa countryside.

15) A Turkish parliamentarian has stressed that Turkish ambulances are transporting weapons to terrorist groups in Syria, expressing their opposition to Ankara's policies on the Syrian case.

Terrorist gangs in Syria: Belgian weapons

Belgian Senator to Launch Discussion at Senate on Possession of Belgian Weapons by Armed Opposition in Syria

Aug 14, 2012  - BRUSSELS, (SANA) – Belgian Senator Nele Lijnen said that she intends to launch a discussion at the Belgian Senate regarding the fact that the armed opposition in Syria possess weapons made in Belgium.

Lijnen will pose several questions on the issue as soon as the Senate and the Chamber of Representatives resume their work next month after the end of the summer vacation.

She stressed the need to uncover the fate of exported Belgian weapons, and that many questions must be answered as to how the weapons reached the armed opposition to Syria and to whom these weapons were actually sold and when.

Several sources indicate that the armed opposition is using Belgian weapons, with photos being published that show Belgian weapons in the hands of militants in areas in Damascus' suburbs.

It should be noted that Belgian weapons are exported to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which are supplying the Syrian opposition with weapons.

War against Syria: American Senate, Washington 2003 (2)

McCain, Obama, AIPAC, Israel and the One Hundred Eighth United States Congress

The war against Syria was not launched to to establish a 'democratic regime'.

US Senator John McCain (photo) - a Vietnam war 'hero' and leading US Senator, called for 'Immediate Air Strikes' on the regime of Bashar Assad.

McCain is one of the many political leaders who have addressed AIPAC conferences.  AIPAC is the Israeli lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to the Congress and Executive Branch of the United States.

In January 2003, already, the One Hundred Eighth United States Congress which was the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives, was making an act 'to halt Syrian support for terrorism, end its occupation of Lebanon, and stop its development of weapons of mass destruction, and by so doing hold Syria accountable for the serious international security problems it has caused in the Middle East, and for other purposes'

One Hundred Eighth Congress

of the day of January, two thousand and three

United States of America

Begun and held at the City of Washington on Tuesday,

the seventh day of January, two thousand and three

An Act

To halt Syrian support for terrorism, end its occupation of Lebanon, and stop its

development of weapons of mass destruction, and by so doing hold Syria

accountable for the serious international security problems it has caused in the

Middle East, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

This Act may be cited as the `Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003'.

Congress makes the following findings:

(16) In the State of the Union address on January 29, 2002, President Bush declared that the United States will `work closely with our coalition to deny terrorists and their state sponsors the materials, technology, and expertise to make and deliver weapons of mass destruction'.

(17) The Government of Syria continues to develop and deploy short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

(18) According to the December 2001 unclassified Central Intelligence Agency report entitled `Foreign Missile Developments and the Ballistic Missile Threat through 2015', `Syria maintains a ballistic missile and rocket force of hundreds of FROG rockets, Scuds, and SS-21 SRBMs [and] Syria has developed [chemical weapons] warheads for its Scuds'.

(19) The Government of Syria is pursuing the development and production of biological and chemical weapons and has a nuclear research and development program that is cause for concern.

(20) According to the Central Intelligence Agency's `Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction and Advanced Conventional Munitions', released January 7, 2003: `[Syria] already holds a stockpile of the nerve agent sarin but apparently is trying to develop more toxic and persistent nerve agents. Syria remains dependent on foreign sources for key elements of its [chemical weapons] program, including precursor chemicals and key production equipment. It is highly probable that Syria also is developing an offensive [biological weapons] capability.'.

(21) On May 6, 2002, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, John Bolton, stated: `The United States also knows that Syria has long had a chemical warfare program. It has a stockpile of the nerve agent sarin and is engaged in research and development of the more toxic and persistent nerve agent VX. Syria, which has signed but not ratified the [Biological Weapons Convention], is pursuing the development of biological weapons and is able to produce at least small amounts of biological warfare agents.'.

(22) According to the Central Intelligence Agency's `Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction and Advanced Conventional Munitions', released January 7, 2003: `Russia and Syria have approved a draft cooperative program on cooperation on civil nuclear power. In principal, broader access to Russian expertise provides opportunities for Syria to expand its indigenous capabilities, should it decide to pursue nuclear weapons.'.

(23) Under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (21 UST 483), which entered force on March 5, 1970, and to which Syria is a party, Syria has undertaken not to acquire or produce nuclear weapons and has accepted full scope safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency to detect diversions of nuclear materials from peaceful activities to the production of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.

(24) Syria is not a party to the Chemical Weapons Convention or the Biological Weapons Convention, which entered into force on April 29, 1997, and on March 26, 1975, respectively.

(25) Syrian President Bashar Assad promised Secretary of State Powell in February 2001 to end violations of Security Council Resolution 661, which restricted the sale of oil and other commodities by Saddam Hussein's regime, except to the extent authorized by other relevant resolutions, but this pledge was never fulfilled.

(26) Syria's illegal imports and transshipments of Iraqi oil during Saddam Hussein's regime earned Syria $50,000,000 or more per month as Syria continued to sell its own Syrian oil at market prices.

(27) Syria's illegal imports and transshipments of Iraqi oil earned Saddam Hussein's regime $2,000,000 per day.

(28) On March 28, 2003, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld warned: `[W]e have information that shipments of military supplies have been crossing the border from Syria into Iraq, including night-vision goggles * * * These deliveries pose a direct threat to the lives of coalition forces. We consider such trafficking as hostile acts, and will hold the Syrian government accountable for such shipments.'.

(29) According to Article 23(1) of the United Nations Charter, members of the United Nations are elected as nonpermanent members of the United Nations Security Council with `due regard being specially paid, in the first instance to the contribution of members of the United Nations to the maintenance of international peace and security and to other purposes of the Organization'.

(30) Despite Article 23(1) of the United Nations Charter, Syria was elected on October 8, 2001, to a 2-year term as a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council beginning January 1, 2002, and served as President of the Security Council during June 2002 and August 2003.

(31) On March 31, 2003, the Syrian Foreign Minister, Farouq al-Sharra, made the Syrian regime's intentions clear when he explicitly stated that `Syria's interest is to see the invaders defeated in Iraq'.

(32) On April 13, 2003, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld charged that `busloads' of Syrian fighters entered Iraq with `hundreds of thousands of dollars' and leaflets offering rewards for dead American soldiers.

(33) On September 16, 2003, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, John Bolton, appeared before the Subcommittee on the Middle East and Central Asia of the Committee on International Relations of the House of Representatives, and underscored Syria's `hostile actions' toward coalition forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Under Secretary Bolton added that: `Syria allowed military equipment to flow into Iraq on the eve of and during the war. Syria permitted volunteers to pass into Iraq to attack and kill our service members during the war, and is still doing so * * * [Syria's] behavior during Operation Iraqi Freedom underscores the importance of taking seriously reports and information on Syria's WMD capabilities.'.

(34) During his appearance before the Committee on International Relations of the House of Representatives on September 25, 2003, Ambassador L. Paul Bremer, III, Administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, stated that out of the 278 third-country nationals who were captured by coalition forces in Iraq, the `single largest group are Syrians'.

It is the sense of Congress that--

(1) the Government of Syria should immediately and unconditionally halt support for terrorism, permanently and openly declare its total renunciation of all forms of terrorism, and close all terrorist offices and facilities in Syria, including the offices of Hamas, Hizballah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine--General Command;

(2) the Government of Syria should--

(A) immediately and unconditionally stop facilitating transit from Syria to Iraq of individuals, military equipment, and all lethal items, except as authorized by the Coalition Provisional Authority or a representative, internationally recognized Iraqi government;

(B) cease its support for `volunteers' and terrorists who are traveling from and through Syria into Iraq to launch attacks; and

(C) undertake concrete, verifiable steps to deter such behavior and control the use of territory under Syrian control;

Non-Aligned Movement: Egypt slams 'oppressive' Assad regime...

Egypt’s President Mohammed Mursi chose the occasion of 16th NAM summit to slam the "oppressive" Syrian regime.  Egypt is considered one of the United States' strongest allies in the Middle East and Arab World...

Al-Moallem: The Syrian Delegation Withdrew from NAM Summit during Speech of the Summit's Former President

Aug 30, 2012 - TEHRAN (SANA)

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Walid al-Moallem, on Thursday stressed that the Syrian delegation went out from the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit currently held in Tehran while the former president of the summit, Mohammad Mursi, was delivering his speech.

Al-Moallem said the Syrian delegation's withdrawal from the meeting came in protest of the content of Mursi's speech which constituted a breach of the conventions of the summit's presidency and an interference in Syria's internal affairs and in rejection of the instigation for continuing the shedding of the Syrian blood included in the speech.

The Minister added that the Syrian delegation to the NAM summit reentered to follow up the summit's activities after the end of Mursi's speech.

During her visit Clinton assured Tantawi that the Egyptian military junta which shortly before the run-off in the Egyptian presidential election, dissolved the Islamist-dominated parliament and had taken over all legislative and budgetary powers and the drafting of a new constitution, has the 'full support of Washington'.
Clinton told Mursi “that there are certain things that the US expects from Egypt” in exchange for its continued financial support. One US demand is that Egypt continue the Mubarak regime’s pro-US foreign policy.
One of the main issues discussed, according to an official speaking to Al-Ahram Online, is Egypt’s continuing commitment to the three-decades-old peace deal with Israel. The diplomat said that the US expects “Egypt to use the good ties that link the Muslim Brotherhood with the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip to curtail any plans that Hamas might have towards escalation with Israel.”
The US also expected Mursi to continue limiting Egypt’s relations with Iran.
Mursi signaled that he and the Brotherhood were willing to cooperate closely with Washington and that the US can consider the Egyptian military the main defender of its interests and a force to control the Islamists.
During and after the meeting between Clinton and Mursi, thousands of protesters gathered outside the US embassy and Clinton’s hotel to denounce US interference in Egypt and the MB’s collaboration with Washington.
After her visit in Cairo, Clinton continued on to Israel, reportedly to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and the war in Syria with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and President Shimon Peres...

Gatilov: Ban Ki-moon Acknowledges that Armed Opposition Shoulder Responsibility of Escalating Violence in Syria

Aug 12, 2012

MOSCOW, (SANA) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Gennady Gatilov, stressed that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has acknowledged in a letter to the chairman of the Security Council concerning the implementation of the international resolution on settling the situation in Syria that the armed opposition shoulder the responsibility of escalating violence in Syria in general, and in Aleppo in particular.

Russia Today website reported Gatilov as saying on his Twitter account that the UN Secretary-General has offered objective assessment of the situation in Syria and acknowledged that the escalation of the crisis in Aleppo is because of the attacks of gunmen, pointing out that it is important that the UN Secretary-General calls for maintaining  the UN presence in Syria to provide objective information about the situation in the country and to remain in contact with all parties.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a letter sent to France’s Representative to the UN Gérard Araud, who is chairing the UN Security Council currently,  that members of the armed opposition had launched attacks in Damascus and Aleppo.

Syria: Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili

Aug 12, 2012

TEHRAN, (SANA) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili affirmed that democracy in Syria cannot be achieved by sending armed terrorists into it, calling for giving the Syrian people a chance to decide their own destiny and stressing that resolving the crisis in Syria cannot be done through foreign interference.

In an interview with Al-Alam TV, Jalili said that he pointed out to UN Envoy Kofi Annan during a visit to Tehran that the solution in Syria can be only achieved through democracy and allowing the Syrians to decide their own future and destiny, but this cannot be achieved through armed assaults and sending militants and terrorists; rather it’s achieved through the public willpower, not the desires of the centers of power and wealth.

He reiterated that the solution in Syria is internal, and not through national interference, noting that his country underlined articles for ending the crisis which are ending violence and bloodshed, entering national dialogue, and then holding free and fair elections.

Jalili pointed out that some of the countries that claim to be part of the solution in Syria are actually part of the problem as they are want to destabilize Syria, calling for exerting efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.

He also noted that Syria and its people are paying the price of their firm and principled positions in support of the resistance, adding that the US has clearly declared that it has specific goals and interests regarding what is happening in Syria.

Jalili said that President Bashar al-Assad is still in power despite all pressure and conspiracies because he has popular support, with the popular willpower in general on his side and the side of the resistance.

He also denied that the Iranian Revolution Guard has any involvement in Syria’s internal affairs, saying that such rumors aim to harm the Syrian-Iranian relations.

Breaking News Syria: Users of chemical weapons warn for 'chemical weapons'...

As was the case in the war against Iraq and Libya, the U.S. and its allies which were the first to use chemical weapons against civilians during their colonial wars, talk now about a  'threat of chemical weapons' to justify their war against Syria...

U.S. used napalm in Falluja

By David Hoskins

Nov 17, 2005 - New evidence came to light earlier this month that confirmed reports in Workers World newspaper and elsewhere that the U.S. military had used internationally banned chemical weapons, including white phosphorus and napalm, during its November 2004 attack on Falluja.

The U.S. government adamantly denied these reports at the time. Reports of the alleged U.S. war crimes were notably absent from the pages of most Western newspapers and there was virtually no discussion of the issue on cable news stations or talk radio. Al Jazeera’s facility in Iraq was forcibly shut down in an attempt to stifle journalistic inquiry into these reports.

Now, almost a year later, Italian state television RAI has produced a documentary confirming that U.S. forces in fact used white phosphorus and MK77 Mod 5—a napalm derivative—in Falluja. And the Guardian of London has called Falluja an atrocity on the scale of Mylai and Guernica, estimating 7,000 civilian dead.

While MK77 Mod 5 uses a formula consisting of a smaller concentration of benzene, the effects are exactly the same as napalm. The use of these incendiary wea pons is a violation of the 1980 UN Conven tion on Certain Conventional Weapons.

Workers World newspaper had published an article in its Dec. 2, 2004, issue based on a talk by Workers World Party Secre tariat member Sara Flounders in which she described how the use of illicit chemical weapons, poison gas and bunker busters had virtually destroyed the city of Falluja.

Jeff Englehart, a former soldier in the U.S. 1st Infantry Division in Iraq, says in the Italian documentary that he saw “burned bodies, burned children and burned women.” Entitled “Falluja: The Hidden Massacre,” the film contains video footage showing the bodies of civilian women and children following the U.S. air and artillery bombardment.

The innocent victims appear to have been burned to the bone. Others have partially melted flesh hanging from their bodies. These chemical weapons primarily affect the flesh of their targets. The evidence leaves no doubt that the victims were unarmed and in civilian clothing at the time of their deaths.

Orders to shoot children

Describing the United States’ intention to target civilians in Falluja, Englehart states that he was told by military superiors going into Falluja that “every single person that was walking, talking, breathing was [an] enemy combatant. As such every single person that was walking down the street or in a house was a target.” Englehart confirms that soldiers had orders to shoot children as young as 10 years old.

The use of white phosphorus and napalm in Falluja is just another example of criminal action and conspiracy to hide the truth. It fits into a domestic and international agenda to reshape world politics in favor of the extreme right wing of the U.S. ruling class. The breakup of the Soviet Union emboldened the most conservative sector of U.S. imperialism and its allies to try to assume for themselves absolute control of the world.

Recent news reports have provided myriad instances of criminality, corruption and conspiracy. Since 2004 alone, troops directed by the Bush administration have been caught committing torture at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, desecrating the Koran in the concentration camp in Guantanamo in occupied Cuba and now using internationally banned chemical weapons in Falluja.

The U.S. government first lied in 2002-2003, claiming the existence of massive amounts of chemical weapons in Iraqi hands, to justify the invasion of Iraq. The same U.S. government then turned its own arsenal of chemical weapons against innocent civilians in Falluja and has now been caught lying in an attempt to cover up its criminal actions.

Latest News Syria: Saudi regime pays weapons and salary of terrorist gangs

Belgrade.Chinese embassy.jpgAug 6, 2012 - The UK newspaper Guardian reported on June 22 that the Saudi regime would pay the salary of the members of the terrorist Free Syrian Army to encourage “mass defections from the military and… pressure” the Damascus government.

On June 21, the New York Times reported that a group of CIA officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey and that the agents are helping the anti-Syria governments decide which gangs inside the Arab country will receive arms to fight the Syrian government.

The foreign-backed insurgents in Syria comprise of extremist elements, including al-Qaeda militants. A German intelligence report estimates that around 90 percent of the terror attacks in Syria are carried out by al-Qaeda affiliates.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Damascus says ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and insurgents’ are the driving factor behind the unrest and deadly violence, while the opposition accuses the security forces of killing protesters.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed insurgents are foreign nationals.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Ken Stone with the Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War, from Ontario, to further discuss the issue.

The following is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Welcome to the program. First of all, recently reports have come out about Obama's secret authorization for providing support to the militants in Syria; we know Turkey is providing training and logistical support to these rebels as well. Why is it that these governments are supporting the very groups to topple Assad that they have not tolerated elsewhere: namely Al-Qaeda and the Kurdish militants?

Stone: Well, the intervention in Syria by the West, which the Harper government of Canada is accomplice in, is an attempt under the guise of humanitarian intervention to effect regime change.

And one of the means that they are using to effect the regime change, which is illegal under international law and United Nations Charter, is to insert terrorists into Syria to terrorize whole neighborhoods, to kill Syrian police and army and basically to provide an excuse using the old canard of humanitarian intervention for military intervention by the armies of NATO and the West.

Press TV: Well, footage upon footage shows how these armed rebels use heavily populated civilian city centers to launch their assaults. Aren’t such tactics very far off from the “people's revolution” the Western media has portrayed the situation in Syria as?

Stone: Absolutely. The hypocrisy in the west and the media in the West and the governments of the West including the Harper government of Canada is boundless.

On one hand they are supposed to be supporting the Annan peace plan to bring peace to Syria through diplomacy and dialogue, but really what they are doing through this so-called Friends of Syria, which is really a misnomer, of which the government of Canada is a part is to arm and equip a bunch of mercenaries to go into this country and portray it as supporting and protecting the people against the government.

While, actually the opposite is the case. It is the west that is using mercenaries, including al-Qaeda mercenaries, to create an insurrection in Syria and then provide an excuse for regime change by the West.

Press TV: Where is this headed though? Do you see this escalating into a full blown military assault on Syria by NATO and its allies, or do you think that maybe the West is going to run with this proxy war in order to achieve its purposes in Syria?

Stone: Well, at this point it is difficult to say. At the moment, governments like the Harper government of Canada are denying that they are considering a full scale military intervention, but at the same time the Foreign Minister [of Canada] John Baird said on July 25th that Canada is already participating in talks for a post Assad government, which means that they have already said in their minds that they are going to overthrow the government of Syria.

They do not tell us here if they are planning just to continue supporting and instigating terrorism in Syria which would perhaps in the long run undermine the Syrian government or if they are looking for some excuse, some supposed massacre.

They have portrayed to the media a number of massacres which they tried to pin on the government of Syria and later turned out to be the work of the insurgents.

So it is possible that they could just keep on financing this because they got endless money from Qatar and Saudi Arabia or perhaps they are waiting for some incidence to a Libyan-style intervention or Yugoslavian-style intervention or Iraqi-style intervention or an Afghanistan-style intervention. We do not know but we know something is coming.

Syria: CIA and British MI6 responsible for killing Syrian Defence Minister ?

Are the CIA and British MI6 (Military Intelligence) responsible for the suicide bombing of July 18, 2012 that was called the 'final battle for the capital' and that killed three men at the heart of President Assad's defence team ?

Some days ago President Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for the armed gangs seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government (but probably there were already secret missions without the U.S. Senate was informed about).

And yesterday the British Daily Mail reported that Britain is secretly providing the armed groups in Syria with the latest satellite phones...

Daily Mail: Britain Is Secretly Equipping Armed Groups in Syria with Latest Satellite Phones

August 5, 2012 - LONDON, (SANA) - Britain is secretly providing the armed groups in Syria with the latest satellite phones that are designed to resist water, dust and shock, the British Daily Mail reported.

"The supply of the latest generation of handsets is part of the Foreign Office’s mission to mould militias into a coalition capable of governing the country," said an article published on Sunday.

It highlighted that the phones that are being supplied to the terrorist groups are used by the Ministry of Defense as they are "designed for rugged environments and are shock, dust and water resistant."

The newspaper cited British government sources as confirming that the "Foreign Office is teaching negotiation and ‘stabilisation’ skills to opposition leaders, and advising on how to address the Syrian people and international audiences," a mission that "is complicated by the expansion of the conflict to all Syria’s major cities."

The Daily Mail reported, according to military experts, that "the presence of Foreign Office officials and the provision of training and equipment to the opposition means that British Special Forces are likely to be operating in Syria."

It indicated that teams from those units are believed to be infiltrating into Syria from their bases in Jordan.

The British newspaper quoted a former British Army commander, Richard Kemp, a former member of the Government’s Joint Intelligence Committee, as saying "The UK Government cannot give practical support to the rebels without a presence inside Syria, and any Foreign Office officials seeking to liaise with the opposition leaders would require close protection from Special Forces."

British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, announced last week that Britain is stepping up what he called 'practical help' to the armed terrorist groups in Syria in the coming weeks.

Hague did not reveal the nature of this help, but said that more details on this additional support to the Syrian opposition will be provided soon.

'Three men at the heart of President Assad's defence team have died in a suicide bombing, Syrian state TV says'

BBC News, 18 July 2012 - The president's defence minister, brother-in-law and head of his crisis team were at a meeting at national security headquarters in Damascus.

No footage has yet emerged of the attack in which the national security chief and interior minister were also said to have been wounded.

It comes as rebels claim to have launched an offensive on the capital.

For the past three days, rebels have fought with troops in several parts of the city, declaring their operation, entitled Damascus Volcano, a final battle for the capital.

The rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) and a jihadist group calling itself Lord of the Martyrs Brigade both said they were behind the security headquarters bombing.

Latest News Syria: Syria's Permanent Representative in the UN

Syria's Permanent Representative in the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari.jpg

Al-Jaafari: Draft Resolution on Syria Hysteric and Misleading, Violates International Legitimacy Principles

NEW YORK, (SANA) - Syria's Permanent Representative in the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari, on Friday said that the draft resolution on Syria submitted by Saudi Arabia to the UN General Assembly is hysteric and misleading, violating all international legitimacy principles, primarily the principle of respecting national sovereignty and non-interference in countries' internal affairs.

In a speech before the UN General Assembly, al-Jaafari stressed that the Qatari-Saudi-western draft resolution serves only the interests of Israel.

Al-Jaafari said that adopting the draft resolution sends a wrong message to extremists and terrorists in Syria and elsewhere, since the terrorist acts these people carry out as an alternative to dialogue and peaceful settlements are encouraged and supported by UN member countries, which will only exacerbate the situation, increase violence and strengthen terrorism in Syria and the entire region, which will eventually cause terrorism to reach the very areas that spawned it, including some of the countries that adopted the draft resolution.

He pointed out to the irony in that the countries adopting the resolution presented it under article 34 on the prevention of armed conflicts, while these very same countries have had a considerable part in the militarization of the situation in Syria and pushing it away from the desired political solution by providing weapons to terrorist groups in Syria, adding that the French Foreign Minister admitted to this three days ago when he acknowledged that Qatar and Saudi Arabia are delivering weapons to these groups, while some western media outlets confirmed that US anti-aircraft Stinger missiles have reached these armed groups via Turkey.

Al-Jaafari said that some of the countries which adopt the draft resolution are leading a hysteric political media and intelligence campaign against Syria, funding and arming the armed terrorist groups – not to the peaceful, honest internal national opposition – and providing them with logistic support, adding that some of these countries also provide media and political cover to the armed groups and impose unilateral sanctions that contradict the six-point plant and pose an injustice on the Syrian people in a manner violating UN resolution, which further exacerbated the humanitarian situation on the ground, while at the same time these same sides bemoan the humanitarian situation in their statements.

He stressed that if these countries voicing concern over the humanitarian situation in Syria were truly honest in their concern, they would have allocated the billions of dollars spend of funding, arming and equipping terrorists with communication devices for humanitarian aid, noting that all promises made by these countries regarding humanitarian aid were mere deceptions as no-one in Syria saw any such aid even months after agreeing to the humanitarian response plan with the UN.

Al-Jaafari added that some of the countries that adopted the draft, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, cannot be considered as examples of democracy and respecting human rights, as these countries are governed by oligarchic, tyrannical regimes that don't hesitate to suppress their people and murder protestors, adding that the state of human rights and basic liberties in them is considered among the worst in the world according to documented reports by human rights organizations and opposition sources abroad.

He went on to affirm that other countries that adopted the draft are among the direct contributors to the deterioration of the situation in Syria, and that they have no credibility in terms of commitment to UN resolution in light of prior experiences, as many of these countries manipulated such resolutions and tailored them to fit their interests as to permit them to partake in military intervention in other countries using pretexts of disarming weapons of mass destruction, protecting human rights, protecting civilians, and other noble principles that were never truly among these countries goals; rather they were mere slogans employed to interfere in other countries' affairs, topple governments and plunge countries into chaos, civil wars and sectarian infighting.

Al-Jaafari warned against the danger of the UN General Assembly becoming a cover for spreading "Halal" - "legal" - terrorism and undermining stability and security around the world through political, financial and media pressure, or having the Assembly be used to give legitimacy to agendas that shook most member countries' faith in the rule of law on the international level, particularly after the invasion of Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya and the manipulation of the resources of several developing countries, particularly in Africa.

He pointed out that during the current crisis, Syria witnessed a series of terrorist bombings, and that the Syrian authorities arrested and killed large numbers of Arab and non-Arab terrorists affiliated with Al Qaeda and other extremist, Salafi and Wahabi organizations linked to Al Qaeda in terms of mentality and ideology.

Al-Jaafari pointed out to the contradiction in some countries – which always claimed to denounce terrorism and Al Qaeda and waged wars on this basis – are directly or indirectly supporting the growing terrorist activities of Al Qaeda and other extremist groups in Syria to serve "creative chaos" as it is well-known that some countries facilitated, funded and instigated the sending of terrorist to Syria, which explains why those who submitted the draft didn't refer to these terrorists at all as this would indict them.

He went on to say that while many western countries are combating Salafi, Wahabi and Takfiri sleeper terrorists cells in their territories, the same countries are working hard to  activate such cells in Syria, with some countries carrying out a methodical campaign of promoting violence and terrorism to Syria despite the fact that UN laws prohibit such acts and equate instigation of these crimes to committing them.

Al-Jaafari wondered of this draft resolution actually aims at invoking international law to hold those responsible for terrorism, violence and acts of murder and vandalism in Syria responsible for their crimes.

He called on member countries to not vote for it so that they do not become indirect accomplices in supporting chaos and terrorism and interfering in countries' internal affairs and legalizing unilateral sanctions, calling on them to vote against it to support UN principles that equate countries in sovereignty and respect people's right of self-determination.

He added that Syria was expecting from Saudi Arabia to submit a draft resolution to liberate the Saudi islands in the Red Sea which were occupied by Israel instead of faking sorrow over the Syrians and manipulating the fate of Palestinian refugees in Syria.

Al-Jaafari went on to say that Saudi and Qatari media wasn't content with targeting Syria; it also targeted him and his family members in an immoral manner to extort him, with Saudi and Qatari media attacking him directly for hours-long programs and fabricating lies and allegations defaming his family, not to mention hosting social interaction sites that encourage murder and make lists of Syrians to be killed in Syria and outside it, wondering if this is how terrorism is combated or how diplomacy is carried out.

"You're all ambassadors and defend your countries' interest; this is something, and being targeted along with your families is another thing which I leave to your conscience," he said, adding that many threats of murder were directed at him and other Syrian diplomats from sites based in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United States.

Al-Jaafari concluded by saying that the General Assembly Chairman assumed a position towards the draft resolution in advance, which violates the General Assembly's internal laws which require the Chairman to be neutral and direct the session impartially, noting that this is the tenth such violation committed by the Chairman during his chairing of the Assembly.

Cuba's Representative to the UN: Ending Violence in Syria Requires Stop Funding and Arming of Terrorists

In turn, Cuba's Representative to the UN said that the draft resolution doesn't resolve the Syrian crisis, rather it increases violence and treats the issue in a biased and non-objective manner, paving the way to military intervention which Cuba will not support.

He said that ending violence and terrorism requires preventing the funding and arming of terrorists, adding that Europeans want to interfere in the affairs of a sovereign country and change its government to meet the interests of the United States and others.

The Representative voiced regret over the misuse of mass media to wage campaigns and instigate further bloodshed, affirming that Cuba opposes foreign intervention in countries' internal affairs, expressing support to the right of the Syrians in implementing reforms without foreign interference.

Venezuela's Representative to the UN: Syria Faces Opposition that Resorts to Terrorism

For his part, Venezuela's Representative to the UN said that the Syrian government is not facing a democratic and peaceful opposition, adding that Syria is facing an opposition that supports and resorts to terrorism, adding that this opposition is receiving foreign support and refusing dialogue.

In a speech before the UN General Assembly, Venezuela representative said that the draft resolution suggests taking steps for foreign intervention in a sovereign country, which makes the draft non-objective and in violation of humanitarian principles.

"Venezuela takes its stances under the principle of respecting the sovereignty and national unity of the independent countries, that is why we hope that this draft will be rejected," he added.

He stressed that funding and arming the armed groups of the opposition is a violation of the international laws and the UN Charter, urging all the UN organization to provide aid to the Syrian people with full respect of the Syrian sovereignty.

He also stressed the need to end violence regardless of form and source, and that political dialogue is the only way to resolve the Syrian crisis, adding that his country supported the Plan of UN Envoy Kofi Annan and regrets his resignation and the fact that warmongers destroyed Annan's plan.

The Representative voiced Venezuela's support for the efforts exerted by Russia to resolve the Syrian crisis and the decision suggested by Russia and China in this regard, noting that colonialist countries are imposing sanctions against Syria and continue to push draft resolutions in the General Assembly that interfere in Syria's internal affairs and suit the goals of terrorists.

Brazilian and Iranian Representatives to the UN Stress Need for All Sides in Syria to Engage in National Dialogue

To this effect, Brazil's Representative stressed the need for everyone to engage in national dialogue, and for the international community to guarantee the implementation of Annan's plan through actions, not just words.

Similarly, the Iranian Representative voiced regret that some of the countries pushing for the draft are supporting terrorists, noting that the draft resolutions involves sanctions on Syria while the Syrians are suffering from the repercussions of the crisis, and that calls for sanctions constitutes group punishment against Syrians.

He stressed that the international community must call for ceasing the funding and arming of terrorist groups in Syria, expressing Iran's regret over Annan's resignation and noting that some countries sought to hinder Annan's work by saying that they will seek methods outside the UN and the Security Council to deal with the Syrian situation.

The Iranian Representative voiced deep concern over the regional repercussions of violating Syria's territorial sovereignty by some sides, calling on all Syrian political forces to engage in dialogue and reiterating his country's readiness to host talks between the government and the opposition.

He also said that current draft resolution is unbalanced, unilateral and isn't reflective of the reality in Syria, sending a wrong message.

Meanwhile, Qatar's representative once again violated the UN Charter which calls for the Assembly's Chairman to be objective and neutral towards any draft resolution, then went on to boast about his government's achievements in conspiring against the Syrian people and issuing a statement based on the reports of al-Jazeera and rife with lies and allegations.

He also bemoaned the Security Council which – thanks to Russia and China's moral position – prevented the undermining of Syria's sovereignty.

Similar to the representative of Al Thani, the representative of Al Saud recited a statement which seemed to have been written by Israel with the aim of revitalizing the delusions of terrorist groups after their crushing defeats at the hand of the Syrian Arab Army.

The Saudi representative completely ignored the crimes committed by the mercenaries of the Saudi regime who are running amok in Syria and spoke of a political solution, ignoring the fact that a political solution requires non-interference in countries' affairs and launching dialogue, not sending weapons and extremist mercenaries to Syria.

He also ignored Arab and western media reports confirming the responsibility of terrorists groups of massacres and bombings in Syria, hypocritically talking about the need to prevent the shedding of Syrians' blood in clear disregard for the fact that Al Saud support terrorists organizations with the aim of undermining the stability of countries that reject their U.S. masters' hegemony.

In turn, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon voiced regret that the Security Council couldn't pass a resolution to justify foreign intervention in Syria, and he didn't forget to shed tears over the humanitarian state of the Syrian people while pushing for a resolution that would impose more sanctions on them.

Ki-moon blamed the Syrian leadership, alleging that it didn't commit fully to Annan's plan, conveniently neglecting to mention any responsibility on the part of the armed groups, contradicting himself by saying that government's are responsible for protecting their people while blaming the Syrian government which is confronting mercenary terrorist groups that are killing Syrians.

12 countries in the General Assembly voted against the non-binding draft resolution on Syria, while 31 countries declined to vote on this Saudi-presented resolution which aims at interfering in Syria's affairs and imposing more sanctions on the Syrian people.
