‘NileSat, Arabsat Suspend Broadcast of Syrian Satellite Channels’

5-9-2012

SYRIA – News Home Page

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – NileSat Company suspended broadcasting the Syrian satellite channels in a unilateral procedure unjustifiably violating terms of the contract signed with the Company and the Media Code of Ethics, Ministry of Information said on Wednesday.

This procedure contradicts principles of media work in an unacceptable and blatant way within the framework of the campaign targeting Syria, the statement added.
The Ministry stressed its condemnation of this violation and considered it as direct evidence on its administrators’ bias to the side of the plot launched against the Syrian state and people, adding that this behavior serves the Zionist scheme.

The Ministry called upon the NileSat Satellite Company to refrain from its behavior and adhere to the legal regulations in this regard.
In a similar statement, the Ministry of Information announced that the Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) cut broadcasting the Syrian satellite channels in line with NileSat Company which has already carried out its role in the Zionist project that aimed at silencing the voice of the homeland and contributing to the deception, fabrication and the falsification of facts.

The Ministry condemned this behavior which violates the simplest rules of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) law and Syria’s rights which should be preserved according to these rules.
The Ministry considered this procedure as flagrant violation of media code of ethics and principles of journalistic work, calling upon the Arabsat administration to refrain from its decision and commit to the law and morals of media.

The Ministry called upon Syrian citizens to watch the Syrian channels on the terrestrial channels and the Eutelsat and Hotbird on the following frequencies:

The Syrian TV Satellite Channel Eutelsat 11680 horizontal.
The Syrian al-Ikhbariya TV Channel Eutelsat 11390 vertical.
Addounia TV Channel Eutelsat 10922 vertical.
The Syrian TV Satellite Channel Hotbird 12015 horizontal.

On a relevant note, the Information Ministry said that the live feed of the Syrian Satellite Channel and Al-Ikhbariya TV can be viewed online at the General Organization of Radio and TV website
at http://live.rtv.gov.sy/ while Addounia TV can be viewed online on its website at http://addounia.tv/index.php?page=live

Union of Syrian Journalists Denounces Suspending Broadcast of Syrian Satellite Channels as Media Piracy

Union of Syrian Journalists denounced the NileSat administration’s decision to suspend the broadcast of Syrian satellite channels as media piracy against national media and the freedom of the word.
The Union said in a statement on Wednesday that this step came in implementation of the decision of the Council of the Arab Foreign Ministers which called upon the NileSat and Arabsat administrations to stop broadcasting the Syrian satellite channels which is unexpected since these organizations signed contracts and had legal obligations regarding the Syrian channels.

The statement added that the union addressed all Arab journalist unions and the International Federation of Journalists to condemn this move and to call upon the administration of NileSat to refrain from their decision in accordance with the minimum level of moral principles and international conventions, particularly the UN Charter on the freedom of opinion and expression.
The union concluded that the Syrian national media with all its institutions and cadres which confronted the conspiracy is able to find ways that help it continue conveying the truth to the Syrian people and the Arab and international public opinion.

National Media Council: NileSat, Arabsat Decision to Suspend Syrian Channels Illegal

The National Media Council stressed that the NileSat and Arabsat decision to suspend the broadcast of the Syrian satellite channels is illegal and condemned as it came under the war against Syria.
The Council considered these procedures as completion of criminal acts that targeted the Syrian media institutions and the journalists, stressing that such terrorist acts aimed at silencing the voice of the Syrian media which presented to the local and international public opinion the reality of what is taking place on the ground exposing the campaign of lies and fabrications led by Arab and western media.
The Council added that it reserved its right to take necessary legal procedures to prosecute the two companies and all media outlets that violate rules of the journalist work.

It added that all attempts targeting the Syrian media will fail as it belongs to the Syrian people and convey the reality, stressing that the national media will preserve its professionalism to expose the fabrications of other media.

Syria: Google censorship

Image

Google has very long blocked the news of the Syrian news agency Sana.

That seems to change a bit, although the articles of Sana are well selected and so the news about Syria is still manipulated.

There are only 7,870 search results for 'latest news syria sana' and there is no direct link to the news agency Sana.

For 'latest news syria' there are 494,000,000 results and on the first page there is a direct link to Sana (http://sana.sy/index_eng.html). Sometimes this link has been deactivated.

Let us hope that Google is more interested in a political solution for Syria rather than just to spread American war propaganda accompanied with the continuous discussion about the 'risk of the use of chemical weapons' which was used as a pretext for the war against Iraq and Libya.

Internet giant Google is investing an extra 300 million euros at its data centre in the Walloon town of Dour near Mons. In time this will result in the creation of 200 long-trem jobs.

Google made the announcement during a visit of the Belgian Prime Minister, Elio Di Rupo (Francophone socialist). Google’s data centre in Dour is one of the three largest operated by the company in the continent of Europe.

The 300 million will finance a major three-year expansion programme. Google hardware operations manager Freddy Bonhomme told the Belgian press agency Belga: “Work has just started. Between 300 and 350 people are being hired.”

Employment levels may fall after the project is completed.

Google as Pentagon contractor

Barack Obama speaking at Google HQ in 2007.jpg

Aug 31, 2010

Google’s emergence as a major defense contractor was underscored last week when the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency tweaked its Aug. 20 announcement of a sole-source contract to the search giant for visualization services.

The announcement, reported by Fox News, prompted a Microsoft protest that its Bing Map Server could do the job. The NGA then changed the wording of the announcement–without really changing its meaning. The revised NGA announcement, noted NextGov, “went to great lengths to clarify that only Google Earth meets it requirements.”

The amount of the NGA contract was not disclosed.

The revised announcement shows how the government’s geospatial intelligence capabilities are inextricably linked to Google Earth.

As Fox News’ James Rosen noted:

“Google Earth came into being only after Google’s 2004 acquisition of Keyhole, a company that was in part funded by In-Q-Tel, the venture capital firm run by the CIA. And those firms, along with Microsoft, tend to purchase their aerial imagery principally from two other companies: DigitalGlobe and GeoEye. Those firms on Aug, 6 received federal contracts worth close to $4 billion each, in order to collaborate on a next-generation satellite that can deliver even more detailed imagery — money that was awarded by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.”

Will Google’s dependence on secret Pentagon contracts affect its corporate decision-making? How could it not?

'Google Adds (Even More) Links to the Pentagon'

3.14.12

On Monday, the Defense Department’s best-known geek announced that she was leaving the Pentagon for a job at Google. It was an unexpected move: Washington and Mountain View don’t trade top executives very often. But it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise. The internet colossus has had a long and deeply complicated relationship with America’s military and intelligence communities. Depending on the topic, the time, and the players involved, the Pentagon and the Plex can be customers, business partners, adversaries, or wary allies. Recruiting the director of Darpa to join Google was just the latest move in this intricate dance between behemoths.

To the company’s critics in Congress and in the conservative legal community, Google has become a puppet master in Obama’s Washington, with Plex executives attending exclusive state dinners and backing White House tech policy initiatives. “Like Halliburton in the previous administration,” warned the National Legal and Policy Center in 2010, “Google has an exceptionally close relationship with the current administration.” To the company’s foes outside the U.S. — especially in Beijing — Google is viewed as a virtual extension of the U.S. government: “the White House’s Google,” as one state-sponsored Chinese magazine put it.

But in the halls of the Pentagon and America’s intelligence agencies, Google casts a relatively small shadow, at least compared to those of big defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Northrop Grumman, and SAIC. Yes, a small handful of one-time Googlers joined the Obama administration after the 2008 election, but most of those people are now back in the private sector. Sure, Google turned to the network defense specialists at the National Security Agency, when the company became the target of a sophisticated hacking campaign in 2009. (Next week, the Electronic Privacy Information Center goes to federal court in an attempt to force the NSA to disclose what exactly it did to help Google respond.) The Lockheeds and the Northrops of the world share with the Pentagon information about viruses and malware in their networks every day.

Government work is, after all, only a minuscule part of Google’s business. And that allows the Plex to take a nuanced, many-pronged approach when dealing with spooks and generals. (The company did not respond to requests to comment for this article.)

Google has a federally focused sales force, marketing its search appliances and its apps to the government. They’ve sold millions of dollars’ worth of gear to the National Security Agency’s secretive eavesdroppers and to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s satellite watchmen. And they’re making major inroads in the mobile market, where Android has become the operating system of choice for the military’s burgeoning smartphone experiments. But unlike other businesses operating in the Beltway, Google doesn’t often customize its wares for its Washington clients. It’s a largely take-it-or-leave-it approach to marketing.

“They shit all over any request for customization,” says a former Google executive. “The attitude is: ‘we know how to build software. If you don’t know how to use it, you’re an idiot.’”

Some of that software, though, only made it to Mountain View after an infusion of government cash. Take the mapping firm Keyhole, backed by In-Q-Tel, the investment arm of the Central Intelligence Agency. Google bought Keyhole in 2004 — and then turned it into the backbone for Google Earth, which has become a must-have tool in all sorts of imagery analysis cells. When I visited a team of Air Force targeteers in 2009, a Google Earth map highlighting all the known hospitals, mosques, graveyards, and schools in Afghanistan helped them pick which buildings to bomb or not.

Around the same time, the investment arms of Google and the CIA both put cash into Recorded Future, a company that monitors social media in real time — and tries to use that information to predict upcoming events.
“Turns out that there are several natural places to take an ability to harvest and analyze the internet to predict future events,” e-mails Recorded Future CEO Christopher Ahlberg. “There’s search, where any innovation that provides improved relevance is helpful; and intelligence, which at some level is all about predicting events and their implications. (Finance is a third.) That made Google Ventures and In-Q-Tel two very natural investors that provides us hooks into the worlds of search and intelligence.”

The government and Google have more than a mutual interest in mining publicly available data. The feds ask Google to turn over information about its customers. Constantly. Last fall, the Justice Department demanded that the company give up the IP addresses of Wikileaks supporters. During the first six months of 2011, U.S. government agencies sent Google 5,950 criminal investigation requests for data on Google users and services, as our sister blog Threat Level noted at the time. That’s an average of 31 a day, and Google said it complied with 93 percent of those requests.

Google is pretty much the only company that publishes the number of requests it receives — a tactic which sometimes causes teeth to grind in D.C. But it’s essential to the well-being of Plex’s core business: its consumer search advertising. Google, as we all know, keeps a titanic amount of information about every aspect of our online lives. Customers largely have trusted the company so far, because of the quality of its products, and because there’s some sense that the Plex and the Pentagon aren’t swapping data wholesale. These small acts of resistance maintain that perceived barrier.

Not long ago — in the middle of the last decade, say — Google held an almost talismanic power inside military and intelligence agencies. Google made searching the web simple and straightforward. Surely, the government ought to be able to do the same for its databases.

“You kept hearing: ‘how come this can’t work like Google,’” says Bob Gourley, who served as the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Chief Technology Officer from 2005 to 2007. “But after a while the technologists got educated. You don’t really want Google.”

Or at least, not in that way. Even complex web searches are single strands of information. Intelligence analysts are hunting for interlocking chains of events: Person A in the same cafe as person B, who chats with person C, who gives some cash to person D.  Those queries were so intricate, government engineers had to program each one in by hand, not so long ago. But lately, more sophisticated tools have come onto the market; the troops and spooks have gotten better at integrating their databases. Google’s products are still used, of course. But it’s just one vendor among many.

Latest News: Syria in the grip of the American war propaganda

SANA, Syrian soldier.Dec.3.2012.jpg

Google where America's Defense Department’s best-known geek works since some months, , has removed the website of the very popular Syrian Arab News Agency Sana of its search engine.

Bloggers or owners of websites can no longer visit this website that gives a lot of interesting information.

At the same time the international news agencies and american newspapers which are incessantly attacking the Syrian government, can still use the photos of Sana for its war propaganda.

http://www.utsandiego.com/photos/2012/dec/03/738308/

Comment of the The San Diego Union-Tribune: 'In this Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 photo released by the Syrian official news agency SANA, a Syrian soldier aims his rifle at free Syrian Army fighters during clashes in the Damascus suburb of Daraya, Syria.' (December 3, 2012 AP)

America's Defense Department’s best-known geek works for Google

Google has removed the Syrian Arab News Agency Sana from its lists of research while the western press can spread its story that 'Syrian rebels had captured a helicopter base east of Damascus, their latest gain in a costly battle to unseat President Bashar al-Assad'.

That's not coming as a surprise. On 3.14.2012, America's Defense Department’s best-known geek announced that she was leaving the Pentagon for a job at Google.

Google's decision came after the news that France and Britain have recognized the so called 'opposition' as the 'legal representative of the Syrian people'.

On December 2, 2012, the United Nations that always has played a dubious role in the U.S. and Israeli wars, has ordered all of its non-essential international staff to leave Syria. The U.N. planned also to reduce some of its field work in the Arab state.

The U.N. also has decided to halt field trips into Syria from the capital Damascus by its international staff except in certain emergency cases.

On November 29, 2012, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned 'in the strongest terms' the terrorist bombings which took place in the city of Jaramana in Damascus Countryside and claimed the lives of 34 people.

But at the same time he was always keeping silence about the secret order of Obama authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. Weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Ban Kin-moon and his staff mandated also a so called 'no-fly zone' over Lybia and the bombings of NATO which killed and injured a lot of Lybian civilians.

Photo: Ban Ki-moon shaking hands with Barack Obama. It is a public secret that Ban Ki-moon, who has been posted twice to the Republic of Korea embassy in Washington, D.C. and served as Director-General for American Affairs in 1990–1992, is a very good personal friend of president Obama.

Syrian News Agency Sana no longer exists for Google

Barack Obama speaking at Google HQ in 2007.jpg

Google is actually censoring the news of the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA.

That's not coming as a complete surprise.

On 3.14.2012, America's Defense Department’s best-known geek announced that she was leaving the Pentagon for a job at Google. Google is actually censoring the news of the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA.

Google censorship comes just at the moment that France and Britain have recognized the so called 'opposition' as the 'legal representative of the Syrian people'.
At the same time, Western press comes with the story that the 'Syrian rebels take an airbase in slow progress toward Damascus'.

NATO and its puppets of the western press, used the same scenario in the bombing and occupation of Libya.
So it is very clear that the censorship and misleading information are part of the western military 'offensive' and the terrorist bombs attacks of the small American-British mercenary army which were 'in the strongest terms condemned' by US Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Syria has previously seen large outages in July and August this year, each lasting less than an hour and only affecting targeted areas.

During the uprising in Egypt, four major internet service providers were cut off in the country during mass protests against the (American backed) then-President Hosni Mubarak. Egyptians quickly found ways around the blocks.

In Libya, internet blackouts were common in areas that were at the time still controlled by Colonel Gaddafi.

Some time ago, Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian armed groups and terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.

The explosive device blasts resulted in minor material damage.

Visiting the injured in al-Muwasat Hospital, Minister of Higher Education, Mohammad Yehya Moalla, stressed that the timing of the terrorist bombings was intended to cause harm to the largest number of citizens, describing them as "heinous and inhuman".

On the other hand, Governor of Damascus Countryside, Hussein Makhlouf, described Jaramana terrorist bombings as "the most horrible crimes" against innocent citizens while they were heading to their workplaces, schools and universities.

He added that those who are behind the bombings made use of the Syrian's good will who rushed to help the injured to carry out the second bombing and cause more victims.

Touring Jaramana and al-Muwasat hospitals, Makhlouf said that targeting Jaramana by the armed terrorist groups for many times reflect these terrorist groups' hatred and grudge on its residents who rejected extremism and the involvement on the conspiracy against their country.

Who's responsible for terrorist attacks and the suffering of the Syrian people ?

Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain would step up its support for the armed groups in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million). The money is used for bomb attacks in Syria.
