'Netanyahu blasts Erdogan for ‘dark and slanderous’ remarks on Zionism'

The Turkish prime minister on Wednesday described Zionism as a ‘crime against humanity’ on par with anti-Semitism and fascism...

---

February 28, 2013

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s comparison of Zionism to Nazism, calling it a “dark and slanderous remark, the likes of which we thought had passed from the world.”

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding Erdogan’s “hollow” remarks as well, charging that they “stem from ignorance.”

Erdogan on Wednesday described Zionism as a “crime against humanity” on par with anti-Semitism and fascism.

Speaking in Vienna at a United Nations event devoted to dialogue between the West and Islam, Erdogan decried rising racism in Europe and the fact that many Muslims “who live in countries other than their own” often face harsh discrimination.

“We should be striving to better understand the culture and beliefs of others, but instead we see that people act based on prejudice and exclude others and despise them,” Erdogan said, according to a simultaneous translation provided by the UN. “And that is why it is necessary that we must consider — just like Zionism or anti-Semitism or fascism — Islamophobia as a crime against humanity.”

The Turkish leader’s comments, made at the official opening of the fifth UN Alliance of Civilizations Global Forum, drew harsh criticism from UN Watch, a Geneva-based watchdog group monitoring anti-Israel bias and human rights abuses at the organization.

“Erdogan’s misuse of this global podium to incite hatred, and his resort to Ahmadinejad-style pronouncements appealing to the lowest common denominator in the Muslim world, will only strengthen the belief that his government is hewing to a confrontational stance, and fundamentally unwilling to end its four-year-old feud with Israel,” UN Watch said in a statement.

Erdogan was also criticized by the Anti-Defamation League and B’nai B’rith International.

“We are appalled and horrified by Mr. Erdogan’s linkage of Zionism and anti-Semitism at a conference devoted, ironically enough, to improving understanding of other cultures,” said the ADL’s national director Abraham Foxman. B’nai B’rith strongly condemned “Erdogan’s effort to revive inflammatory language, by equating Zionism with racism.”

Erdogan mavi marmara.jpg

'No Prizes for Erdogan'

July 27, 2011,

Erdogan reacted to the Mavi Marmara incident with enraged indignation. He demanded that Israel apologize for its commandos' actions and pay compensation to the families of the dead. He also demanded an international inquiry into Israel's actions.

Honor is probably not Erdogan's main rationale for pursing his demand for an Israeli apology. Since he was reelected to serve a third term as prime minister last month Erdogan has been openly seeking to establish a neo-Ottoman Turkish hegemonic position in the Arab world.

To this end he has been actively interfering in the popular revolt against Syrian dictator Bashar Assad. The IHH has been hosting Syrian opposition leaders in Turkey. Erdogan's clear aim is to replace Iran as Syria's overlord in a post-Assad Syria.

An Israeli apology would serve as proof that his double game of remaining a NATO member and carrying out aggression against Israel is the winning formula. If Israel apologizes for defending itself against Turkish aggression, Erdogan will have succeeded where the Arabs have failed.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and senior IDF officers reportedly argue in favor of an apology, claiming the strategic alliance with Turkey is so important that Israel must be willing to swallow its pride in order to rebuild it. This argument has apparently won over Intelligence Minister Dan Meridor. It has also caused Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman to temper his honor-based rejection of the Turkish demand.

The problem with this argument is that it fails to take address Erdogan's second, and more strategically significant motivation of using Israeli humiliation to strengthen his image as a pan-Islamic leader.

Given the true stakes involved, Israel must stick to its guns and say no apology, no compensation, and no political prize for Erdogan.

Israel is 'deeply grateful to the United States'

1) On November 15, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for urging his cabinet to accept a U.S. proposal to extend a freeze on West Bank settlement building for 90 days. Under the plan, Washington would block UN resolutions critical of Israel, and supply Israel with fighter jets worth $3 billion. The US government also promised Israel that after the 90-day moratorium, they would not seek an extension, and settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (all of which is illegal under international law) could continue unabated.

2) In February 2011, more than 100 nations voted for a U.N. resolution that would have condemned illegal Israeli settlements and halted any new construction. The United States vetoed it.

3) On February 19, 2011, Israel said it was 'deeply grateful to the United States' after it vetoed a United Nations resolution put forward by the Palestinian leadership condemning Israeli settlement activity.

4) On Oct 27, 2011, Israeli jetfighters engaged in aerial bombing of the Palestinian city of Khan Yunes in the Gaza Strip.

Syria News: Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan visits Germany...

warmakers.erdogan.merkel.jpg

Turkey is a historical ally of Germany

Turkey was favoured as a potential ally by Hitler because of its important strategic location on the boundaries of Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as its extensive history as a state hostile against the Russian Empire as well as the later Soviet Union.

To assure that Germany wanted to work with them on a long-range basis, the Turks were guaranteed an equal status in the German-dominated order, and were promised a number of territories which they might desire for reasons of security. These encompassed Edirne (Adrianople) and a rectification of Turkish frontiers at the expense of Greece, the creation of buffer states in the Caucasus under Turkish influence, a rectification of the Turkish-Syrian frontier (the Baghdad Railway and the State of Aleppo) and the Turkish-Iraq frontier (the Mosul region), as well as a settlement of "the Aegean question" to provide Turkey with suitable protection against encroachments from Italy. The Black Sea (which Hitler derided as "a mere frog-pond")was also to be conceded to Turkey as part of its sphere of influence, for this would ne:gate the need of stationing a German navy in the region to replace the Soviet Black Sea Fleet.

In November 2005, an agreement was signed for the sale of 298 German Army Leopard 2A4 tanks to Turkey. Turkey’s tank fleet is currently made up of American M-48s and M-60s, some of which have been modernized with Israeli cooperation into M-60 Sabra tanks, plus a large contingent of German Leopard 1s and Leopard 2s. That is hardy surprising. America and Germany are Turkey’s 2 most important geopolitical relationships, and this is reflected in Turkey’s choice of defense industry partners. The country’s industrial offset requirements ensure that these manufacturers have a long history of local partnerships to draw upon.

On November 1th, 2012, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip and his wife Emine arrived for a celebration to mark 50 years of Turkish immigration to Germany. Germany in the early 1960s, required foreign labour to fill its industrial workforce, and the influx of immigrants from Turkey, Italy, Greece and other south European countries made Germany's economic miracle possible. Today large numbers of Germans with Turkish roots are an integral part of German society.     Erdogan who declared war on Syria while he allows that Turkey is smuggling weapons for bomb attacks in Syria, had a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In a very hypocritical way, Erdogan claimed: 'the terrorism issue was also discussed with Merkel and they have reiterated their support. European Union is absolutely against terrorism however we want to see results of this attitude'.

Germans Protest Upcoming Visit of Turkish Premier over His Government's Human Rights Violation

Oct 31, 2012

BERLIN/ANKARA, (SANA) – Huge crowds gathered in front of Brandenburg Gate in the German Capital of Berlin to protest against the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Germany.

The protesters raised banners that criticize Erdogan's policies which violate human rights.

Earlier in the week, the Turkish security forces suppressed tens of thousands of Turks who joined massive popular protests against the attempts of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government to ban the celebration of the 89th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic.

The Turkish police clashed with Kurdish protesters on Tuesday near a prison in the city of Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey, where inmates are continuing their hunger strike for the 48th day in a row.

The Turkish Anadolu news agency said several thousand people joined the protest marching towards the prison and the police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protesters who reacted by throwing stones at the police personnel.

Shops were closed and the locals did not send their children to school in line with calls for a boycott.

The Anadolu agency also reported clashes in the city of Istanbul without reports on casualties. A protest also took place in Adana and most of shops closed in Van region.

Hundreds of Kurdish prisoners in dozens of Turkish jails have been on a hunger strike since September demanding increased rights for Kurds and improved conditions for the Kurdish detainees.

Council of the Turkish Peace and Democracy Party discussed the hunger strike issue and decided on many steps and activities in this regard, including declaring October 30 as a 'Resistance Day'.

The Council also decided sending messages to the Kurdish parties and human rights organizations in Europe and the UN and its bodies as well as heads of the European countries, the Turkish embassies, the U.S. Congress members and media channels to urge them to assume responsibility towards the prisoners who are on a hunger strike.

The Council said all organizations of the Peace and Democracy Party in all areas will lay black wreathes in front of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) centers in Turkey and will set up tents and organize oratorical events in solidarity with the hunger strikers.

For its part, the opposition Republican People's Party called on the Turkish public to be on the lookout towards the policy of the ruling AKP party which is trying to hold sway over the judiciary and the higher courts in the country.

The military poker game of NATO

Adm. George Stavridis.NATO.Ankara.jpg

After US and UK, Germany is the largest weapons supplier to Turkey

October 4, 2012

NATO members have both sold and donated a wide range of weapons to Turkey, including more than 500 combat aircraft, 500 combat helicopters, 5,000 tanks, and thousands of artillery pieces, mortars, machine guns and assault rifles. The United States has been Turkey's main supplier, providing about 80% of Turkey's arsenal. Over the past decade (up to 1995), the US Congress has appropriated $5.3 billion in military aid (grants and loans to purchase weapons) for Turkey, making Turkey the third largest recipient of US military aid (after Israel and Egypt).

Turkey has recently invited bids for the supply of four early warning aircraft (AWACS) (mid-1998). The contract is worth around $1 billion. The aircraft would enable Turkey not only to command and control its own airspace but also that of the surrounding region. Likely suppliers are Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grunman, and Israel Aircraft Industries.

After US and UK, Germany is the largest weapons supplier to Turkey. Germany is currently trying to sell Turkey 1,000 Leopard II main battlefield tanks.

US. president Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for terrorist attacks in Syria. Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an "intelligence finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust the Syrian government. C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said some weeks ago that Britain steps up its support for terrrorists in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million).

Over 30,000 various weapons, including boxes of gunshots with the words "NATO BALL" have been channelled to Syria. The overall amount of explosives makes up 300 tons. The deliveries were made by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They depend on the United States, which is making every effort to overpower Syria.

Photo 1: On October 4, 2012, Adm. George Stavridis, the commander of US European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in Ankara. The meeting took place at General Staff headquarters but was only announced to the public in a statement released by the General Staff some days later. The talks were closed to the press and the statement did not elaborate on what Stavridis and Ozel discussed. But the smiling faces and the news about Turkey's attack on the Syrian civil aircraft, tell us something about the 'democratic' plans they made.

Photo 2: Turkish fighter jets forced a Syrian passenger plane that was so called 'suspected of carrying weapons' to land at Ankara airportIt proves once again that the Turkish government is not onlyarming Syrian terrorists but organizes with its NATO allies (with Israel in the background) also a real war against Syria.

Erdogan and Iran's 'nuclear threat'...

erdogan.friend.of.Israel.jpg

Turkish prime minister Erdogan, which is playing now a very active role in the arming of terrorist groups in Syria, called Nuclear Israel a threat to Middle East...

-----

Nuclear Israel is a 'threat' to Middle East, says Turkey's Erdogan

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish prime minister, escalated his war of words with Israel yesterday by claiming that the Jewish state poses a "threat" to the Middle East because of its undeclared nuclear capabilities.

Launching one of his bluntest attacks yet in his increasingly outspoken feud with Israel, the Turkish leader also accused Benjamin Netanyahu's government of "state terrorism" for its military incursions into Gaza in the past five years.

"Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed from bombs that have rained down on them from Israel," he said during an official visit to South Africa. "You sleep at night peacefully and secure, yet Palestinians can't find a single trace of peace in Palestine."

Mr Erdogan's broadside comes a month after Turkey retaliated against Mr Netanyahu's refusal to apologise for Israel's deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla in May, 2010 by expelling the Israeli ambassador to Turkey.

The diplomatic crisis worsened after Mr Erdogan announced plans to step up Turkish naval patrols in the Mediterranean and signalled his intention to counter Israel's offshore gas exploration.

Mr Erdogan has been a longstanding critic of Israeli policies in Gaza and while his latest comments will deepen irritation in the Netanyahu administration, they will also come as no surprise.

But his attack on Israel's nuclear capacity will be viewed differently, with officials fearing that Turkey could now become the champion of an Arab campaign to force Israel to open its Dimona reactor to UN inspectors.

Secret Turkish diplomatic cables leaked by the Israeli press last month contained a threat by Mr Erdogan to work against Israel in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

By claiming that he saw "Israel as a threat for its region because it has the atomic bomb", Mr Erdogan could be signalling the start of just such a campaign.

Arab states dropped plans at the IAEA general assembly last month to pass a resolution calling on Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, a step it has resisted in order to prevent inspections of its atomic facilities.

But Israel, which maintains a policy of ambiguity on its nuclear capabilities, fears fresh attempts could be made to introduce a similar resolution next year and Turkish support could increase its prospects of passing.
