Latest News Syria: Moscow wants a political process

Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov.jpg

Nov 12, 2012 - MOSCOW, (SANA) – Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich  reiterated on Monday that linking the future of Syria to those who depend on violence and terrorism is unacceptable.

In statements quoted by Russia Today website,  Lukashevich   pointed out that Moscow has recently expressed rejection of the gunmen's threats of downing civil planes in the Syrian airspace, adding that now there are threats against foreign diplomatic missions and citizens.

He said that Russia rejects the behavior of the fundamentalists in the Syrian armed opposition.

He also reiterated the call on all sides if the crisis to stop violence and launch a political process as soon as possible, calling on foreign players to support progress in this regard according to Geneva agreement endorsed last June.

Lukashevich affirmed that those who are thinking of modernizing Syria democratically in a manner that respects its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity should work through the framework of the Security Council resolutions and the Geneva Declaration.

He  said that Russia believes that its primary task is working to end violence, save lives and launch a political process in Syria.

Regarding the efforts of international and regional sides to create new coalitions and alliances among the so-called Syrian opposition, Lukashevich said that as far as Moscow is concerned, this issue depends on whether the members of these coalitions are prepared to settle the crisis by the Syrians themselves without foreign military intervention and through dialogue and negotiations as per the framework of the Geneva declaration.

He also noted that Moscow is maintaining communication with the Syrian government and all sides of the opposition to convince them to adopt such a constructive position.

In turn, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said via Twitter that the efforts for unifying the Syrian opposition will only be useful in case they are prepared to launch political dialogue with the Syrian government as per the Geneva declaration.

Russian Military Official: Moscow Implements all Military Agreements  with Syria

Head of the Air Force Department at the Rosoboronexport Establishment, Sergei Kornev, stressed on Monday that Russia is implementing all agreements in the field of military cooperation with Syria.

In a statement quoted by Russia Today website, Kornev said that Russia is implementing all agreements signed with Syria already, adding that all exports to Syria are stipulated by these agreements.

He added that Russia's military sales to Syria do not violate the international agreements or the Russian laws.

Kornev is heading the Rosoboronexport Establishment delegation to the China Air Show 2012 exhibition which will be opened tomorrow in China.

Middle East on fire: Jordan's support to terrorist groups in Syria

Wall Street Journal: Jordan Stepped up Support and Transfer of Arms to Terrorist Groups in Syria

Nov 10, 2012

NEW YORK, (SANA) - The U.S. Wall Street Journal revealed that Jordan has stepped up its support to the armed terrorist groups in Syria including allowing the transfer of Saudi- and Qatari- funded arms across the border with Syria, according to members of these terrorist groups and an Arab official familiar with the operation.

"Several shipments of arms—including assault rifles, Russian-designed antitank missiles and ammunition—have been delivered to the border in Jordanian military trucks and then taken into Syria by rebel brigades," the newspaper quoted terrorists as saying in an article published on Friday.

Those added that "Dozens of other shipments have been smuggled to Syria with the covert support of Jordanian border officials."

According to gunmen based along the Syria-Jordan border and a person involved in arms procurement for the terrorists, the article said "Saudi Arabia and Qatar pay for these arms and transport them to Jordan."

The Wall Street Journal noted that "such an energized supply route through Jordan would show how even regional states with the risk of significant blowback" are boosting support for the terrorist groups in Syria "with the tacit backing of Western allies."

It added that this support comes despite that the international partners regarding this issue have expressed their increasing anxiety over the growing presence of "Islamist fighters" in the ranks of the terrorist groups in Syria, which "threatens regional stability."

The article highlighted that "Jordan lies at the center of those fears. It shares a long border with Syria, on which it depends for its trade with Turkey and Europe."

The U.S. newspaper revealed that the "kingdom's growing involvement with the activities of Syrian rebels was outlined by six rebel officers and opposition politicians, two of which are directly involved in the procurement or transfer of arms into Syria."

It pointed out that several of the terrorist groups' members say they have met with Jordanian officials, and that a non-Jordanian Arab official "confirmed the characterization of the kingdom's role."

The article highlighted the the court of the Jordanian king, who sets military and security policy, didn't respond to written questions about stepped-up political or military assistance, nor did Jordan's foreign ministry or prime minister's office.

It disclosed that since the spring Jordan has played an increasing role in the support of the armed terrorists and in intelligence matters, according to what the Wall Street Journal said "several people familiar with the situation".

The newspaper quoted officials in the region as saying that Jordan has boosted ties with more leaders of terrorist groups in Syria's southern cities near its border, which helped facilitate transfer of funds and arms to the terrorist groups.

Jordanian intelligence officials, said the article, "routinely host meetings with these Free Syrian Army leaders, helping facilitate their movement back and forth from Syria and discussing military strategy," according to people familiar with the meetings.

Those people added that "Jordan also allows American intelligence officials to question and cultivate contacts with defected Syrian military officials."

The Wall Street Journal cited whom it said "a person involved in negotiations with regional countries on the supply of arms to Syrian rebels," as saying that the Jordanian officials "have received guarantees for economic aid and security aid" in return for their support to the armed groups.

It also quoted people involved in the transaction as saying that "The Syrian groups receiving arms from the Jordanian border are now connected to the military councils that have been vetted by Washington and others."

According to terrorist leaders, the article said some of the weapons which entered Syria through Jordan were destined for the southern Syrian border city of Daraa, while most of the arms, though, "were pushed north to the suburbs of Damascus, 60 miles north."

Other gunmen stressed that Daraa "remains one of the last supply routes to rebels in the capital, with pathways from the Turkish border and around Homs too risky."

The Guardian: US Citizen Who Fought in Libya Turns up in Aleppo

Nov 10, 2012

LONDON, (SANA) - The British newspaper The Guardian unveiled that an American, called Matthew VanDyke, who fought within the ranks of the armed militias in Libya turned up in Aleppo, north of Syria, and joined the armed terrorist groups there, claiming, though, to be filming a documentary.

In an article published on Friday, the newspapers said VanDyke, who fought alongside the armed Libyan militias against the government forces in Libya, "and who was detained in Tripoli's Abu Salim prison for six months before returning home to Baltimore in late 2011," has turned up in Aleppo within the ranks of the armed terrorist groups there.

VanDyke who claimed that he was just a journalist, admitted, according to the article, that "he is also advising the rebels on weaponry based on his experience in Libya."

He claimed that he had already been asked to fight on behalf of the Free Syrian Army, acknowledging that "he was also offering advice on weaponry, including the anti-aircraft Dushka machine guns he used while fighting in Libya."

Nato: talking about 'humanitarian' interventions and doing business

NATO.buildings.jpg

The retired general of the United States Army Wesley Clark always had good contacts with the Kosovo “government” and its “prime minister” – the former militant Hashim Thaci. There is even a street in Pristina named after Wesley Clark.

"It is clear that during their 'cooperation' that started in 1998, they concluded business agreements. Now it is absolutely clear that the bombings of Kosovo pursued both political and economic objectives: they were aimed not only at separating Kosovo from Serbia, but also at depriving Kosovo of its extensive natural resources..."

"Kosovo created a precedent. It was the first link in the strategy of the 'humanitarian' interventions of the NATO countries led by the USA...To be more exact, the possibility of interference in other regions of the world under this or that pretext became possible."

Coal mining is very good but oil still has a good price. So everything continued, following the former format: Iraq, Somalia, and Libya.

Turkish government wants a new Ottoman empire

Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu: 'A new Middle East is about to be born. We will be the owner, pioneer and the servant of this new Middle East'.

Fighters against Ottoman Empire in Syria,.1916..jpg

Formed around 2500 BC, the Syrian civilization is one of the most ancient on earth, and is strategically placed along the eastern edges of the Mediterranean Sea at the doorway to Asia and the Middle East.

Damascus, the capital, historically called the Fragrant City, is believed to be the oldest continuously inhabited city on the planet, and to this day remains one of the most important cultural and political centers in the Arab world.

For endless centuries Syria was fought over and subsequently controlled by varied factions, including the Egyptian, Roman and Ottoman empires.

The Syrian economy struggled under Ottoman rule, and any attempts at rebuilding were destroyed by the Mongols.

After World War I ended, the Ottoman Turks were finally driven out, and the French influence began.

The French administered and exercised control of Syria until it finally gained its independence in 1946.

In the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, Syria lost the Golan Heights to Israel, and since then, both countries have occasionally discussed its return to Syria.

Observing that a "new Middle East is about to be born," Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu recently stated before the Turkish parliament that "we will be the owner, pioneer and the servant of this new Middle East."

In reality, the Turkish government wants, as was the case under the Ottoman empire, to dominate Syria and the Middle East regio and it hopes to realize its dream with the support of NATO.

C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey and weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition, antitank weapons and explosives for terrorist attacks are being smuggled by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries from Turkey to Syria.

On October 4, 2012, Adm. George Stavridis, the commander of US European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in Ankara. The meeting took place at General Staff headquarters but was only announced to the public in a statement released by the General Staff some days later. The talks were closed to the press and the statement did not elaborate on what Stavridis and Ozel discussed.

On November 7, 2012, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that NATO is preparing to give Turkey Patriot missiles for deployment along the Turkish-Syrian border.

NATO: Wesley Clark, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (1)

Wesley Clark, Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO from 1997 to 2000

General_Wesley_Clark.general.jpg

Wesley Kanne Clark, Sr. (born December 23, 1944) is a retired general of the United States Army. Graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1966 at West Point, he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford where he obtained a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and later graduated from the Command and General Staff College with a master's degree in military science. He spent 34 years in the Army and the Department of Defense, receiving many military decorations, several honorary knighthoods, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Clark commanded Operation Allied Force in the Kosovo War during his term as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO from 1997 to 2000.

Clark joined the 2004 race for the Democratic Party presidential nomination as a candidate on September 17, 2003, but withdrew from the primary race on February 11, 2004, after winning the Oklahoma state primary, endorsing and campaigning for the eventual Democratic nominee, John Kerry. Clark currently leads a political action committee—"WesPAC"—which was formed after the 2004 primaries, and used it to support numerous Democratic Party candidates in the 2006 midterm elections. Clark was considered a potential candidate for the Democratic nomination in 2008, but, on September 15, 2007, endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton. After Clinton dropped out of the Presidential race, Clark endorsed the then-presumptive Democratic nominee, Barack Obama. Clark currently serves as the co-chairman of Growth Energy, an ethanol lobbying group and on the board of directors of BNK Petroleum. Since July 2012, he also acts as an honorary special advisor to Romanian prime minister Victor Ponta in economic and security matters.

Early life and education

Clark's paternal great-grandfather was a Belarusian Jew who immigrated to the United States in response to the Pale of Settlement andanti-Semitic violence from Russian pogroms. Clark's grandfather, Jacob Kanne, graduated from the Chicago-Kent College of Law and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve as an ensign during World War I, although he was never assigned to a combat mission. Kanne, living in Chicago, became involved with ward politics in the 1920s as a prosecutor and served in local offices. He went on to serve as a delegate to the 1932 Democratic National Convention that nominated Franklin D. Roosevelt as the party's presidential candidate (though his name does not appear on the published roll of convention delegates). His mother was Methodist, and was of Englishancestry.

Kanne came from the Kohen family line, and Clark's son has characterized Clark's parents' marriage, between his Methodist mother, Veneta (née Updegraff), and his Jewish father, Benjamin Jacob Kanne, as "about as multicultural as you could've gotten in 1944."

Clark was born Wesley Kanne in Chicago on December 23, 1944. His father Benjamin died on December 6, 1948, following which his mother then moved the family to Little Rock, Arkansas. This move was made for a variety of reasons, including escaping the greater cost of living in a large city such as Chicago, the support Veneta's family in Arkansas could provide, and her feeling of being an outsider to the remaining Kanne family as she did not share their religion. Once in Little Rock, Veneta married Viktor Clark, whom she met while working as a secretary for a local bank. Viktor raised Wesley as his son, and officially adopted him on Wesley's 16th birthday. Wesley's name was changed to Wesley Kanne Clark. Viktor Clark's name actually replaced that of Wesley's biological father on hisbirth certificate, something Wesley would later say that he wished they had not done. Veneta raised Wesley without telling him of his Jewish ancestry to protect him from the anti-Semitic activities of the Ku Klux Klan occurring in the South at the time. Although his mother was Methodist, Clark chose a Baptist church after moving to Little Rock and continued attending it throughout his childhood.

He graduated from Hall High School with a National Merit Scholarship, and helped take their swim team to the state championship, filling in for a sick teammate by swimming two legs of a relay. Clark has often repeated the anecdote that he decided he wanted to go to West Point after meeting a cadet with glasses who told Clark (who wore glasses as well) that one did not need perfect vision to attend West Point as Clark had thought. Clark applied, and was accepted on April 24, 1962.

Marching the Alexanderplatz Square in the capital Berlin, the participants, including German citizens and members of pro-peace and anti-war, -fascism and -terrorism associations, stressed that the solution to the crisis in Syria is a political one that is to be reached through comprehensive national dialogue which excludes no one.

Turkish government wants war with Syria

Turkey.Syria.onvoy of Turkish military forces.jpg

Observing that a "new Middle East is about to be born," Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu recently stated before the Turkish parliament that "we will be the owner, pioneer and the servant of this new Middle East."

In reality, the Turkish government wants, as was the case under the Ottoman empire, to dominate Syria and the Middle East regio and it hopes to realize its dream with the support of NATO.

For several years, he CIA, the American State Department and the Pentagon are involved, working with NATO’s Turkey and the kleptocrats in Saudi Arabia to overthrow the Syrian government.

C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey and weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition, antitank weapons and explosives for terrorist attacks are being smuggled by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries from Turkey to Syria.

NATO preparing to give Turkey Patriot missiles

ANKARA: Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Wednesday that NATO is preparing to give Turkey Patriot missiles for deployment along the Turkish-Syrian border, local newspaper Today’s Zaman reported on its website.

Davutoglu made the remarks in Brussels following earlier statements by some other Turkish officials that Turkey is in talks with the United States and NATO over the deployment of Patriot missiles along its border with Syria.

Turkey and the United States are considering deploying missiles in the southern Turkish province of Kilis, according to the report.

In the past, Turkey requested the deployment of Patriot missile defense systems on its territory twice in the context of wars in Iraq, respectively in the early 1990s and the 2000s.

News: Syria's historical fight against Turkey

Fighters against Ottoman Empire in Syria,.1916..jpg

History

Syria: meeting of Syrian and Russian leaders

Michael Bogdanov .jpgNov. 7, 2012, MOSCOW, (SANA) - Special representative of the Russian President for the Middle East affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov discussed with the Syrian ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad the latest developments in Syria and the region.

A statement for the Russian Foreign Ministry stated Wednesday that during their meeting, the two sides discussed means of accelerating measures to put an end to the acts of violence in Syria and adopting the peaceful solution through a national comprehensive dialogue.

Pushkov: Majority of Syrians Support President al-Assad, Russia and US Stances Differ Regarding Resolving Syrian Crisis

Chairman of the Russian State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Alexey Pushkov affirmed in a press conference on Wednesday in Moscow that the majority of Syrians support President Bashar al-Assad, pointing out that the stances of Russia and the United States differ regarding resolving the crisis in Syria, rejecting the opinion that says that goals are one but the methods are different.

Pushkov said that the goal presented by the US isn't strictly the establishing of a democratic Syria and preserving its unity and territorial integrity; rather the primary US goal as State Secretary Hillary Clinton has stated repeatedly is to depose President al-Assad, asserting that this is the only missions the Americans seek to accomplish in Syria and they claim that freedom, democracy and prosperity will prevail after that.

He noted that the US administration is making amendments to this unrealistic policy, as it's become clear to everyone that deposing President al-Assad will not lead to these results automatically, explaining that Clinton announced that the Istanbul Council isn't the sole representative of the opposition and now they're betting on other formations within the opposition, saying that this represents an unseen backtracking of US policy but their main goal remains the same.

In an interview with SANA's correspondent in Moscow, Pushkov said that the US policy is changing, as Washington used to rely exclusively on Istanbul Council and the so-called free army, but now US officials have reached the conclusion that there are extremist Islamist groups that pose a risk to the US and the west in general, which is why they're trying to expand cooperation beyond the Istanbul Council and form an opposition that's more acceptable to the west and the Syrians as well.

He said that Washington listened to some degree to Russian and Chinese warnings about the danger of supporting and arming the Syrian opposition, but it still refuses to acknowledge that the Syrian government is supported by the majority of Syrians, which is very important and cannot be ignored or underplayed.

Pushkov went on to say that Russia insists on carrying out the goals of the Geneva declaration, particularly launching dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition, affirming that this is the only way that can accommodate those who support the opposition as well as those who support the Syrian government who, according to Pushkov's own experience and observations made during his visit to Damascus in February, constitute a large number of Syrians.

Some months ago, Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists and C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and 'medical' working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

It proved once again that the Turkish government which is not supported by the Turkish population, is not only arming Syrian terrorists but organizes with its NATO allies (and with Israel in the background) also a real war against Syria.

The New York Times reported that the Bush administration was rushing a shipment of bombs to Israel so it could continue its air assault against Lebanon: 'The Bush administration is rushing a delivery of precision-guided bombs to Israel, which requested the expedited shipment last week after beginning its air campaign against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, American officials said Friday.'  Three days later, Forbes reported that the Bush administration was also rushing humanitarian aid to Lebanon: 'President Bush has ordered helicopters and ships to Lebanon to provide humanitarian aid, but he still opposes an immediate cease-fire that could give relief from a 13-day-old Israeli bombing campaign. At the order of the president, humanitarian supplies will start arriving in Lebanon tomorrow by helicopter and by ship,” White House press secretary Tony Snow announced at the White House. “We are working with Israel and Lebanon to open up humanitarian corridors.”
