Freedom of thought: U.S., NATO, Israel

chinese-embassy.bombed.jpg

'Freedom of thought' is the derivative of and thus is closely linked to other liberties: freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom of expression. It is a very important concept in the western world and nearly all democratic constitutions protect these freedoms.

Russian Black Sea Warships Deployed To Eastern Mediterranean

Itar-Tass
November 23, 2012

Warships of Russian Black Sea Fleet are ordered to stay in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea

MOSCOW: Fulfilling orders, a convoy of warships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet arrived in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea for a possible evacuation of Russian citizens from the Gaza Strip in case of an escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli armed conflict, a source in the High Command of the Russian Navy told Itar-Tass on Friday.

“The guards missile-carrying cruiser Moskva and the big landing ship Saratov have arrived in the designated area already on November 20, the border patrol ship Smetlivy and the big landing ship Novocherkassk joined the foresaid warships 1-2 days later, after the refuelling from the big sea tanker Ivan Bubnov. The full convoy of the warships of the Black Sea Fleet arrived in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea in order to evacuate Russian citizens from the Gaza Strip in case of escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” the Russian naval source said.

“It is not ruled out that our warships will be assigned for another combat mission in case of deterioration of the regional situation,” the source in the High Command of the Russian Navy told Itar-Tass. However, the source did not specify what mission in concrete can be set for Russian warships.

The buildings were heavily damaged.
The International Federation of Journalists has demanded the UN hold an investigation of the deliberate attacks of the Israeli military by media buildings in Gaza and take action against Israel.
The Middle East Foreign Press Association demanded an explanation as to why media buildings are targeted.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) explained that they are targeting Hamas militants, 'and the journalists who are not journalists who spread propaganda for Hamas'.

Syria: national unity

20121121.Syria.national unity.jpg

Nov 21.2012 - LATTAKIA, (SANA) - Syria's Grand Mufti, Ahmad Badr al-Din Hassoun on Wednesday called on the Syrian people to adhere to national unity and cohesion to face the Takfiri methodology circulated by enemies of the nation.

"The Syrian people are paying the price of their rejection of a plot to divide their country and shift it to a new Somalia or Benghazi where the brother kills his brother.. Each mosque and church has big responsibility to bury the seditions," the Mufti said during a meeting with a number of scholars and clergymen in Lattakia.

He called on the religious institution in the country to immediately move and talk to those who were misled and carried a weapon to convince him to dismiss the violence and resort to dialogue.

Later, the Mufti honored 52 families of the martyrs in Lattakia, pointing out that the Syrians throughout history were not intimidated by occupiers as they didn't allow anyone to desecrate their land.

He appreciated Lattakia governorate's hosting of those who were obliged by the armed terrorist groups to leave their homes.

"Freedom won't be realized through killing others, but through keeping the homeland, dignity," the Mufti said, calling the bearers of weapons to return to the right path.

Gaza: deadly ‘technical errors’

Deadly ‘mistake’– IDF wipes out Palestinian family due to ‘technical error’

The Israeli Defense Force has confirmed that while targeting Hamas’ rocket chief it mistakenly bombed the home of the Al-Dalou family, killing at least 11 civilians, four of them children and toddlers.

“Israel has killed a family of eleven people this evening, and many, many more. If Israel wants to stop its aggression, then we can talk. But before then, how could we consider any deal?” Salama Maroof, a senior Hamas spokesman told the Daily Telegraph.

IDF said the source of the error was either a failure to laser-paint the correct target or that one of the munitions in the strike misfired, Haaretz newspaper reported. The Israeli military is investigating the incident. The Israeli military targeted Hamas’ rocket-launching unit led by Yehiya Rabiah, but apparently hit the house of a neighbor, the newspaper noted. Rabiah seems to have survived the attack despite earlier claims that he was killed.

Pictures from the site of the attack show the bodies of dead children taken from the ruble of their home. Nine members of the Al-Dalou family, all of them women and children were killed, two other people were also among the dead.

The latest deaths add to the growing toll of Gazan children killed in Israeli air strikes. So far at least 75 people have been killed in the attacks, 13 of them are childen.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that sooner or later, Israel would be held accountable for the “massacre.”

The child death toll is expected to rise unless the two sides enter negotiations soon. However the Israelis are maintaining their belligerent stance. “The Israeli military is prepared to significantly expand the operation. The soldiers are ready for any activity that could take place…the Israel Defense Forces have attacked more than 1,000 terror targets in the Gaza Strip and it continues operations at this very moment,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a weekly cabinet meeting.

Israel is 'deeply grateful to the United States'

1) On November 15, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for urging his cabinet to accept a U.S. proposal to extend a freeze on West Bank settlement building for 90 days. Under the plan, Washington would block UN resolutions critical of Israel, and supply Israel with fighter jets worth $3 billion. The US government also promised Israel that after the 90-day moratorium, they would not seek an extension, and settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (all of which is illegal under international law) could continue unabated.

2) In February 2011, more than 100 nations voted for a U.N. resolution that would have condemned illegal Israeli settlements and halted any new construction. The United States vetoed it.

3) On February 19, 2011, Israel said it was 'deeply grateful to the United States' after it vetoed a United Nations resolution put forward by the Palestinian leadership condemning Israeli settlement activity.

4) On Oct 27, 2011, Israeli jetfighters engaged in aerial bombing of the Palestinian city of Khan Yunes in the Gaza Strip.

Gaza: Israel bombs journalists

Gaza, 19 November, 2012 - The Al-Sharouk compound, which houses many media offices in Gaza, has been targeted once again in an Israeli airstrike.

The International Federation of Journalists demanded a full inquiry by the United Nations to investigate “deliberate attacks” by the Israeli military against media buildings in Gaza and to “take action” against the country’s government.

"The international community must respond immediately to this outrage. The rights of journalists in conflict zones have been particularly highlighted by the United Nations and members states cannot stand by when one state acts in a reckless and dangerous manner," the group released in a statement on Monday.

Six journalists were injured following a previous Israeli airstrike on two buildings in the media compound early on Sunday.

Sky News, Italian RAI, German ARD, Kuwait-TV are among the media outlets working out of the compound. The Hamas TV station, Al Aqsa is located on the top floor.

Some of those injured on Sunday were employees of the Palestinian Ma’an news agency. A cameraman for the local al-Quds TV had his leg amputated as a result of injuries he received during the strike.

The Middle East Foreign Press Association demanded an explanation as to why the IDF was targeting media buildings, which is a violation of international law, following Sunday's airstrike. Reporters Without Borders also condemned the Israeli missile attacks.

The Israeli military said 'it was aware that foreign journalists were in the buildings, but were not directly targeted in the airstrikes'...

Gaza: Russia proposes resolution

Russia Ready to Propose Resolution on Gaza - UN Envoy

UNITED NATIONS, November 20, 2012 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is ready to propose a draft UN Security Council resolution to help efforts to settle the conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip, Russia’s UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said.

“Russia is ready… to submit a draft resolution focusing on three key components,” Churkin said on Monday as the UN Security Council was holding consultations on the Gaza conflict on Russia’s initiative.

Churkin said the components were the following: an end to violence to negotiate a ceasefire, support of international and regional efforts to settle the crisis peacefully and a call for resumption of talks between Palestinians and Israelis on a wider range of problems.

About 100 Palestinians, including dozens of civilians, have been killed since Israel’s Operation Pillar of Defense against the Palestinian enclave of 1.7 million began on November 14 with an airstrike that eliminated the head of the military wing of the Hamas Islamist group, Ahmed Jabari. The airstrike came after a reported surge in rocket attacks on Israeli border towns from Gaza, which has been governed by Hamas since 2007. Three Israeli civilians have been killed since the operation start by rockets fired from Gaza. http://en.ria.ru/world/20121120/177596396.html

Gaza: Russia Today TV Channel Office destroyed

Russian TV office destroyed in Israeli attack on Gaza

A Russian television network says its office in the Gaza Strip has been destroyed as buildings of press agencies are hit in the latest wave of Israeli aggression against the besieged Palestinian territory.

Nov 18, 2012 - The Moscow-based Russia Today news station reported that the office on the top floor of the Showa Media Center "was destroyed after (an) Israeli airstrike hit the building" on Sunday, AFP reported.

The attack comes after the office of Iran's English-language Press TV channel in Gaza was hit twice in the Israeli aerial assaults.

During the bombings, a Press TV cameraman sustained injuries. He is in stable condition at a hospital in Gaza.

"At least six journalists were wounded, with minor and moderate injuries, when Israeli warplanes hit the al-Quds TV office in the Showa and Housari building in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City," Hamas Health Ministry Spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.

Most of the reporters evacuated after an initial strike, but they later returned to the site only to come under another assault. Witnesses said the strikes caused extensive damage to the building.

The latest wave of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has claimed at least 53 lives since November 14.

Ahmed al-Ja'abari, the popular and influential leader of the Hamas military wing, the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, was assassinated in an Israeli attack on his car on Wednesday. On November 16, Ahmed Abu Jalal, a field commander of the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the district of Maghazi in central Gaza.

Israeli aircraft bombed Hamas government buildings in the Palestinian territory on Saturday, after Israel's cabinet authorized the mobilization of up to 75,000 reservists, preparing for a possible ground invasion. The Israeli military frequently carries out airstrikes and other attacks on the Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes.

However, in violation of international law, disproportionate force is always used and civilians are often killed or injured. Gaza has been blockaded by the Israeli regime since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty. MP/SS

Chinese Embassy Bombed by NATO - Three Journalists Killed, More Than 20 Injured

NATO bombed Serbian news outlets with the stated intention of silencing sources different from the NATO war propaganda.

On May 7, 1999, NATO fired also 3 missiles from different angles to attack the Embassy of China in Yugoslavia, which killed 3 Chinese journalists and injured more than 20. The building of the embassy was seriously damaged.

The goal was to punish China for sympathizing with the Yugoslav people against NATO and to terrorize Chinese newspeople in Yugoslavia, thus silencing a non-NATO information source.

U.S. officials and NATO said the attack on the Chinese Embassy was "a mistake" based on "faulty information" that the (Chinese embassy) building was the headquarters for the Yugoslav arms agency. - Reuters (May 11, 1999)

Bombing of Gaza: Arab Foreign Ministers' Meeting

Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour.jpg

Nov 19, 2012 - BEIRUT, (SANA)- Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour said that the decisions of the Arab Foreign Ministers' meeting held in Cairo on the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip do not upgrade to the level of national and pan-Arab responsibilities.

"Arabs possess the pressure means that could give the Arab world a big power to impose its will," Mansour added in an interview with the Lebanese al-Manar TV Channel on Sunday, expressing regret that these means had not been used.

" Such pressure means to be used there should by an Arab consensus," the Minister said.

He called for activating the Israeli boycott bureau and to boycott all the foreign companies that deal with Israel.

Minister Mansour slammed the Arab League (AL) stance towards the Israeli aggression on Gaza and its stance towards the crisis in Syria as it goes too far in the Syrian file due to the foreign pressures and internal factors.

He went on to say the Arab countries to reach a unified stance towards Palestine there should be united will.

Mansour said that despite suspending Syria's Arab League membership, but its role has always been a national and pan-Arab one as it is not far from the Palestinian cause. " The countries that worked to keep Syria away from the Arab League couldn't take its role and presence in the region as no state could replace it."

Over 300 Airstrikes on Gaza

Ehud-Barak.Hillary.jpgIsrael continued its relentless bombing campaign on the heavily populated Palestinian enclave the Gaza Strip, launching more than 300 airstrikes on Saturday, killing at least 10 Palestinians and targeted smuggling tunnels which are the lifeblood of the besieged Gazan economy.

Continuing to falsely claim the airstrikes are retaliatory for rocket-fire coming out of Gaza, Israel targeted the Hamas prime minister’s headquarters and police compounds, as leaders from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey met in Cairo to try to broker a cease-fire.

The White House said President Barack Obama was also in touch with the Egyptian and Turkish leaders, but the US has firmly backed Israel so far, while condemning Gaza.

More than 40 Gazans have been killed and more than 350 wounded since Israel escalated its airstrikes on Gaza on Wednesday. Israel’s escalation came after militant groups in Gaza dared to retaliate against Israel’s needless murder to two Palestinians in the preceding days, one a mentally ill 23-year who got too close to the border and another 13-year old boy killed as he was playing soccer with his friends. Israel also made incursions into Gaza with military tanks, which helped motivate the retaliatory rocket-fire.

Militants in Gaza fired more than 100 rockets toward Israel, including two aimed at the commercial and cultural center of Tel Aviv. Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile defense system shot down at least one of these rockets, while the fate of the other one was not known, but no injuries were reported.

Much of the dialogue on the conflict is terribly biased in favor of Israel.

“Israel, of course, has far greater and more sophisticated means (much of it U.S.-supplied) of inflicting death and destruction than does Hamas,” writes former CIA analyst Paul Pillar. “The different means tend to carry different labels: ground-launched rockets are called terrorism, while the operations of attack aircraft are called a nation defending its borders.”

“To be clear, this was an escalation of choice by Israel’s leadership,” wrote Daniel Levy, Senior Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations and the New America Foundation.

Some commentary has described Israel’s intentional escalation as a way to secure votes for the ruling Likud Party in Israel’s upcoming election. While others point to a broader goal: “ At the most basic level, Israel’s actions in Gaza are inextricably bound up with its efforts to create a Greater Israel that stretches from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea,” writes renowned Chicago University political scientist John Mearsheimer.

Gaza: Thousands rally in Egypt against Israeli violence

rally in Egypt against Israeli violence.16.11.12.jpg

November 16th, 2012 - Thousands of people have rallied in Egypt to show their solidarity with the Palestinians over the recent escalation of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Egyptians marched in the country’s two largest cities, Cairo and Alexandria, on Friday, waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans against Israel in condemnation of its murderous attacks on the besieged Palestinian enclave, the Associated Press reported.

In Tahrir Square, which lies at the heart of Cairo, hundreds of protesters burned an Israeli flag.

Influential cleric Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi also said the Muslim world would not remain silent in the face of Israel’s military offensive against Gaza.

Meanwhile, several thousand protesters gathered outside Al-Azhar mosque after Friday Prayers and chanted, “We will go to Gaza in our millions,” swearing to “sacrifice ourselves for you, Palestine.”

“It’s the least we can do. We need to show Israel our anger,” protester Ahmed Selim said.

The demonstrations, called by President Mohamed Morsi, coincided with the visit to Gaza by Egypt’s Prime Minister Hisham Qandil to offer support to Palestinians and pressure Israel to halt its violence.

The new wave of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has claimed at least 25 lives since Wednesday. Ahmed al-Ja’abari, the popular and influential head of the Hamas military wing, the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, was assassinated in an Israeli attack on his car on Wednesday.

The Israeli military frequently carries out airstrikes and other attacks on Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, in violation of international law, disproportionate force is always used and civilians are often killed or injured.

Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.

Gaza: Russia calls for immediate halt of violence

16.11.12.Israeli Aggression on Gaza.jpg

Russia, Iran, China Condemn Israeli Aggression on Gaza

Nov 15, 2012 - CAPITALS, SANA - Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for immediate halt of the shooting , shelling or any other type of violence in Gaza Strip.

"What has happened on the Palestinian territories arouses serious concern, Lavrov told a news conference in Saudi Arabia.

The Russian Foreign Minister regretted that the Quartet International Committee failed to convene and take a clear stance to create appropriate conditions to resume direct negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Lavrov said we are now paying the price for that missed opportunity," or in more precise words "Those who are really paying the price are those who are suffering on the ground."

He added that "We are convinced that the Quartet should resume the work as soon as possible".

Iran Condemns Israeli Aggression on Gaza as Organized Terrorism

Iran also condemned as "an organized terrorism" the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip.

Fars News Agency quoted Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast as saying that Iran firmly condemns the organized terrorism committed by the occupying entity against the Palestinians and called upon the non-aligned countries to shoulder their responsibilities towards what the Palestinians are being exposed to, particularly those who live in Gaza, and to sever their relations with the Israeli entity.

He denounced the Israeli occupation's crimes against the innocents in Gaza, regretting the silence of the international organizations which claim defending human rights over the Israeli entity's crimes.

15 Palestinians were martyred and over 124 were injured in a series of air strikes launched by the Israeli occupation forces against several cities and camps in Gaza Strip.

China Voices Grave Concern over Large-scale Israeli Military Operation in Gaza

China voiced "grave concern" over the large-scale Israeli military operation on Gaza, urging Israel to maintain "maximum restraint".

Xinhua news agency quoted the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei in a comment on the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip as saying that "We are deeply concerned over the operation and strongly condemn any action that causes civilian casualties."

Hong called upon all relevant parties, especially Israel, to maintain maximum self-restraint to avoid an escalation of the tense situation.

"The current regional situation highlights the importance of urgent solution to the Palestinian issue. The international community should attach high importance and make greater efforts to this end," Hong said.

NATO: Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia,

Turkey's Erdogan in Ukraine

Recep Erdogan is officially visiting Ukraine. In Kiev he and the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich headed the second session of the Strategic Council of Ukraine and Turkey. On September 14 Erdogan will conduct talks in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and participate in the 9th annual session of the Yalta European Strategy where he will speak as a special guest.

Considering an important role of Ukraine in stability in the Black Sea region, Turkey pays great attention to its relations with this country and wants to develop the cooperation in all spheres. In recent times relations between Ukraine and Turkey have gained a character of strategic partnership. The best confirmation for it is a stable growth of trade turnover and mutual investments, mutual support of international initiatives by Ankara and Kiev. However, experts note that political relations falls behind economic cooperation. From this point of view the current visit by Premier of Turkey has a progressive significance.

The countries chosen by Erdogan for visits are notable. At first Azerbaijan, then Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is clear that the current Turkish policy is focused on three bordering territories: the Black Sea and the Caucasian region and Balkans. That is why Ukraine is considered by Turkey as a friendly and strategically important country. There are many advantages in cooperation between Turkey and Ukraine. The main thing is to structure the relations in separate strategic directions with maximum usage of the transit potential.

Another important factor defining the essence of Turkish-Ukrainian relations is the problem of Crimean Tatars. It is a delicate issue of permanent agenda of the countries. Turkey implements all agreements of Crimean Tatars under control of the central authorities of Ukraine. Turkey considers the problem an internal affair of Ukraine, and Ankara has no right to break sovereignty of Ukraine.

Georgian Prime Minister met with NATO Sec.General

Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili has invited the North Atlantic Council to Georgia. He said about it in Brussels at a joint press conference held after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

The Prime Minister stressed that NATO isn't only a military but also a political structure and promised that the new government will do everything to strengthen the democratic institutions.

"We will do everything in order to develop truly democratic institutions. The problems that arose a few days ago, in my opinion, were connected with the fact that the former power was satisfied by facade statements power instead of building truly democratic institutions, and there wasn't enough transparency in society, including in military compounds. The new government will do everything to ensure that all our actions are clear to the international community and NATO. We will do everything to achieve the objectives and Georgia to be a member of the alliance in the near future," Ivanishvili said.

Georgia is a close and committed partner for NATO. It doubled its contribution to NATO's mission in Afghanistan and joined the planning process for the NATO-led mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan forces after 2014.

GAZA, (SANA) – The death toll of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip raised to more than 23 martyrs, more than 248, including 148 children and women, were injured as Israel carried out hundreds of raids on several areas in the Strip in the third day of its aggression.

The Israeli raids targeted the areas of al-Zaytoon, al-Shate', al-Nassr, al-Sheikh Zayed, Rafah, Khan Younes and Jabalia.

The Israeli media said that 2 Israeli settlers were killed and more than 40 others were injured by the missiles of the Palestinian resistance, adding that explosions were heard in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Resistance also downed an Israeli war plane after targeting it with an anti-air missile and shelled the occupied al-Quds city with the advanced missile M 75.

In an indicator of escalating its aggression on the Strip, the Israeli occupation army announced the call-up of 16,000 reservists.

The Israeli aggression has so far focused on air strikes, but Israeli officials threatened to launch a land aggression.

In response to teh Israeli raids, the Palestinian Resistance fired tens of missiles on several Israeli sites south of the occupied Palestine.

The Palestinian Press Agency reported that a number of missiles hit al-Naqab, Asdoud, Asqalan, causing material damage and spreading panic.

Al-Manar TV correspondent in Gaza said that the Resistance targeted an Israeli military vehicle in al-Breij Camp in the Strip, adding that the Resistance's missiles hit a ten-story building and a parking in Asdoud settlement.

Izz-Eddin al-Qassam and al-Nasser Salaheddin Brigades announced shelling a number of Israeli sites and settlements with missiles.

In the same context, an explosion was heard this afternoon in Tel Aviv following sirens and five injuries in the ranks of Israeli settlers were reported due to shelling by the Resistance's rockets.

The Israeli media admitted, according to al-Manar correspondent, that the Israeli War Minister Ehud Barak and member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee at the Israeli Knesset rushed down to shelters after rockets were fired towards the Knesset in occupied Jerusalem.

Israeli media also admitted that three Israeli settlers were injured, one with a serious injury, due to the fall of the Palestinian Resistance's rockets on Asqalan in the south of occupied Palestine.

It also announced the cut-off of internet and mobile phone network and the collapse of the Zionist stock market, indicating a state of panic and shock among the Israeli settlers over the Resistance's shelling of Israeli sites.

NATO’s Secret Kurdish War: Turkey Prepares Iraq-Style Attacks Inside Syria

August 3, 2012

The secular, left-wing Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) has been struggling for Kurdish autonomy in Turkey since 1978 and is labelled a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union.

The Turkish government has been waging a counterinsurgency war against the PKK for 28 years in Turkey, and over the past decade in northern Iraq, with the active support of the Pentagon and NATO. In fact, the campaign against Kurdish opposition groups is another, unacknowledged, American and NATO war, one to be added to a growing list that includes Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya and now Syria.

In recent years, for example, NATO and the Pentagon’s European Command and Central Command have become increasingly involved in supporting Turkish military attacks against the PKK and other Kurdish groups in Turkey and Iraq. (Turkey is in European Command’s area of responsibility; Iraq is in Central Command’s.)

In September of 2005 the joint top commander of U.S. European Command and NATO at the time, Marine General James Jones (later the Barack Obama administration’s first national security advisor), met with members of the Turkish general staff and signed a memorandum of understanding for a NATO "counterterrorism" center in Turkey.

His comments at the time included these:

“We discussed specific Turkish concerns, obviously, with regard to the PKK.

“Turkey is ideally suited to host the Center of Excellence-Defense Against Terrorism. Turkey has the second largest armed forces in NATO, is strategically located, and has over 30 years [of] experience combating terrorism.”

The NATO Centre of Excellence Defence Against Terrorism had been inaugurated in Turkey on June 28, 2005.

In July of 2006 the Turkish head of state, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, called on NATO to openly join the anti-PKK counterinsurgency war, stating: “NATO, which joined in the war against terrorism in Afghanistan, should also do the same here. “It would be good to make tripartite efforts (Turkey, NATO and the US) and to get some results.”

Latest News: Hillary Clinton meets Angela Merkel

After US and UK, Germany is the largest weapons supplier to Turkey

NATO members have both sold and donated a wide range of weapons to Turkey, including more than 500 combat aircraft, 500 combat helicopters, 5,000 tanks, and thousands of artillery pieces, mortars, machine guns and assault rifles. The United States has been Turkey's main supplier, providing about 80% of Turkey's arsenal. Over the past decade (up to 1995), the US Congress has appropriated $5.3 billion in military aid (grants and loans to purchase weapons) for Turkey, making Turkey the third largest recipient of US military aid (after Israel and Egypt).

Turkey has recently invited bids for the supply of four early warning aircraft (AWACS) (mid-1998). The contract is worth around $1 billion. The aircraft would enable Turkey not only to command and control its own airspace but also that of the surrounding region. Likely suppliers are Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grunman, and Israel Aircraft Industries.

After US and UK, Germany is the largest weapons supplier to Turkey. Germany is currently trying to sell Turkey 1,000 Leopard II main battlefield tanks.

Russia calls Washington to choose for a political dialogue

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.jpg

Russia asks Washington to choose for political dialogue rather than to undermine by military force, the souvereignity of other countries

--

Nov. 14, 2012 - MOSCOW, (SANA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday stressed that the solution to the crisis in Syria is through dialogue along with guaranteeing Syria's sovereignty, affirming that the priority is putting an end to violence according to the Geneva declaration which forms the basis for future work.

After meeting the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Lavrov said that all foreign players must work to apply the Geneva declaration and pressure all sides in Syria to apply it, saying that if this is done, then there's no need for a Security Council resolution on Syria.

The Russian Foreign Minister said that the meeting that took place in Doha didn't unify the entire opposition because there are opposition groups inside Syria that didn't participate in it.

He pointed out that Russia meets all opposition representatives and seeks to unify them on the basis of dialogue, not on the basis of the Doha meeting which was built on rejecting dialogue and destroying the institutes of the Syrian state completely.

Lavrov affirmed that Russia is defending the Syrian people, and that its priority is not make sure that no more victims fall in Syria, adding that it was the one to suggest issuing the Geneva declaration as a Security Council resolution, but western countries foiled this by seeking to insert  articles that weren't in the declaration, in addition to their rejection of holding a meeting in New York for the work group which convened in Geneva.

US is responsible for the extension of Israeli settlements on Palestinian territory

card.jpg

3) On February 19, 2011, Israel said it was deeply grateful to the United States after it vetoed a United Nations resolution put forward by the Palestinian leadership condemning Israeli settlement activity.

4) On  Oct 27, 2011, Israeli jetfighters engaged in aerial bombing of the Palestinian city of Khan Yunes in the Gaza Strip.

BBC child abuse - Zandvoort childporn case

Marcel_nieuwsblad_001.jpg

Abuse of power for warfare leads to sexual abuse

On 11.11.2012, George Entwistle resigned as director general of the BBC, just two months into the job, to take responsibility for the child sex allegation on the flagship news programme Newsnight.

The BBC, celebrating its 90th anniversary, is affectionately known in Britain as "Auntie", and respected around much of the world.

But with 22,000 staff working at eight national TV channels, 50 radio stations and an extensive Internet operation, critics say it is hampered by a complex and overly bureaucratic and hierarchical management structure.

Journalists said this had become worse under Entwistle's predecessor Mark Thompson after the BBC was castigated by a public inquiry over a report alleging government impropriety in the fevered build up to war in Iraq.

One of the BBC's most prominent figures, Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman, said since the Iraq report furore, management had become bloated while cash had been cut from programme budgets.

Child abuse is not limited to the BBC but, as the daily war propaganda, is a part of the western values.

The Zandvoort childporn case (88.539 victims), first came to light in 1998 when Belgian founder of child support Group Werkgroep Morkhoven, Marcel Vervloesem, provided a mountain of evidence to Dutch police indicating the operation of a systematic network which dealt in the kidnapping, torture and sexual abuse of children, even infants.

Included in this evidence were high-profile names and matching bank account details proving their involvement.

The following investigative TV report about the Zandvoort case was broadcast on French TV in May 2010.

BBC sex scandal widens, former director starts at New York Times

November 11, 2012

The cover-up of child-molestation scandals at British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Britain’s flagship broadcasting medium, continued to boil Sunday as its chairman called the organization a “ghastly mess.”

One day earlier, BBC Chairman Chris Patten, 68, stood outside the BBC’s expansive London headquarters with George Entwistle, director general, as Entwistle resigned after failing to clean up after the public relations tsunami that struck a few weeks ago.

At the heart of the decades-old child molestation scandal is longtime BBC television host, Jimmy Savile, who died at 84 in 2011.

Authorities suspect Savile may have sexually abused up to 300 young people in BBC studios, hospitals and children’s homes over many years.

Savile, a British television staple, allegedly used his position as children charities advocate to approach vulnerable minors in the 1970s and 80s, according to a New York Times report.

“Does the BBC need a thorough structural overhaul? Of course it does,” the chairman of the BBC Trust, Chris Patten, said on “The Andrew Marr Show,” the BBC’s flagship Sunday morning talk show, after the resignation of the broadcaster’s chief executive.

Entwistle, at his post only eight weeks, became the subject of continued outrage largely due to fallout from a Nov. 2 report on the BBC “Newsnight,” program that incorrectly implicated a former Conservative Party politician in the growing pedophile scandal.

Alistair McAlpine, 70, who was wrongly tagged by “Newsnight” staff as being involved, has suggested he will seek damages against the media conglomerate.

Upon his resignation, Entwistle said it reflected “unacceptable journalistic standards” and never should have been broadcast, referring the faulted “Newsnight” segment that failed to fact-check information that would have exculpated McAlpine.

British media commentators and pundits say appointing a new chief executive will not return BBC to its former status. Many question the need for a huge public-service broadcaster in an era of expanded media sources.

At question is whether BBC should retain the advantages granted to it under its royal charter financed by a mandatory $230-a-year license fee paid by those who own television sets in the country.

Currently, the heavily-subsidized media organization has 23,000 employees, a $6 billion annual budget and dominates British broadcasting.

BBC is headquartered in a billion-dollar complex.

The scandal has spread across the ocean to affect The New York Times, a left-leaning American newspaper located in its namesake.

Entwistle succeeded Mark Thompson, who stepped down in September after eight years as director general at BBC to become chief executive of The New York Times.

Though he was director-general at BBC, Thompson denies knowing anything about the failed “Newsnight” investigation of Mr. Savile, plans to cancel it, or even that it involved allegations of pedophilia. Thompson also denies ever having met Savile.

During a recent segment of “The Andrew Marr Show,” the BBC’s flagship Sunday morning talk show, popular host Jonathan Dimbleby said that because of the layers of bureaucracy between Mr. Entwistle and the “Newsnight” producers, “George was at the receiving end of nothing, when he should have known everything.”

Patten echoed that analysis on the Marr show when he said “there are more senior leaders in the BBC than in the Chinese Communist Party.

”However other sources, for example UK's Mail Online, have reported that Thompson's office was alerted about the child abuse claims.

US head of NATO forces in Afghanistan: sex scandal

NATO Afghan, Next SHAPE, Commander Implicated In Petraeus Scandal

November 13, 2012

Top US commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Allen, implicated in Petraeus scandal

The US head of NATO forces in Afghanistan is under investigation in connection with the sex scandal that saw CIA director David Petraeus resign.

Gen. Allen exchanged “inappropriate” emails with a woman linked to Petraeus.

The FBI has found 20,000 to 30,000 pages of potentially inappropriate emails and documents between General John Allen and Jill Kelley, says the Pentagon. Investigators are now searching through the documents for any compromising information.

Mrs. Kelley was implicated in the Petraeus affair after telling the FBI she received threatening emails from the former CIA chief’s mistress, Paula Broadwell. Jill Kelley is a long-term friend of the Petraeus family and works as a “social liaison” at an air force base in Tampa, Florida.

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta ordered an investigation be opened into the matter on Sunday. He also called for Allen’s nomination to be made Commander of US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe to be frozen for the time being. He was due to face a Senate hearing to assess his nomination on Thursday.

General Allen has denied any wrongdoing and will remain at his post until further notice.

Panetta praised Allen’s work in Afghanistan and said that “he is entitled to due process in the matter.”

“While the matter is under investigation and before the facts are determined, General Allen will remain commander of ISAF,” said Panetta in a statement.

CIA director David Petraeus admitted he had been embroiled in an extramarital affair with the author of his biography, Paula Broadwell, and resigned on Friday.

The 40-year-old biographer met Petraeus six years ago at Harvard’s Kennedy School. While the general was serving in Afghanistan, Broadwell visited him six times over the course of one year. He allegedly gave her preferential treatment over other journalists, which caused Petraeus’ colleagues to question the access she was being given.

The FBI initially suspected a security breach when threatening emails mentioning Petraeus’ name sent by Broadwell to Jill Kelley were picked up in a probe.

The US Code of Military Justice states that “adultery is clearly unacceptable conduct, and it reflects adversely on the service record of the military member,” bringing discredit to the American armed forces.

The punishment for such an offense depends on the rank of the individual involved. If Petraeus is found to have committed adultery while he was still in the military he could face a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of pay and up to a year in prison.
