Syria still under the rule of French colonisers

Photo taken in 1941: French General Georges Catroux is walking next to Nur-Eddin al-Khatib, the grandfather of Mouaz al-Khatib, the incumbent president of the National Coalition for Opposition Forces and the Syrian Revolution.

70 years has passed since France lost Syria as one of its colonies and was forced to recognise its independence. As recent events have shown, however, France just cannot ignore the colonial itch. It is doing everything to regain its sovereignty, although this time around, even if they conquer Syria, it would no longer be full sovereignty since France would have to share it with the USA, Turkey and other NATO partners. This is not troubling Hollande, however, who is backing every reprobate in Syria so long as the reprobate’s position falls within the neocolonial plans of France’s false socialists.

Back in the summer, French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault did not hesitate in saying that France was supplying Syrian fighters with communication equipment and other technology. He spoke as though the equipment was not for the purpose of killing.

And now the pseudo-socialist François Hollande has held a meeting with the old collaborator’s grandson, Mouaz al-Khatib. After the meeting in Paris, the ambassador of the Syrian terrorists showed up – a certain Munzir Makhous who, together with his boss, was part of the delegation who visited the Élysée Palace and implored Hollande to supply the fighters with heavy artillery.

Since 2010, C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. Weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

On August 9, 2012, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, the spearhead of last year’s campaign to oust Muammar Gaddafi, called for 'rapid international action on Syria', comparing the current crisis with the situation in Libya. Sarkozy spoke with the Syrian opposition leader, Abdulbaset Sieda and they noted a 'total convergence in their views on the seriousness of the Syrian crisis as well as the need for rapid action by the international community to avoid massacres,' said a statement signed by Sarkozy and Sieda, the president of the Istanbul-based Syrian National Council. "They agreed that there are great similarities with the Libyan crisis," said the statement. On this way Sarkozy was putting pressure on French President Hollande, who has been much more moderate on the issue compared to his flamboyant predecessor.

On August 11, 2012, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu were considering implementing no-fly zones for Syria after holding talks in Istanbul. According to Reuters, Clinton said that Ankara and Washington 'need to plan ways to assist the rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad – including possibly implementing a no-fly zone'.

On October 4, 2012, Adm. George Stavridis, the commander of US European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), held a Closed-Door Meeting In Turkey. They met with Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in Ankara. The meeting took place on Tuesday at General Staff headquarters but was only announced to the public in a statement released by the General Staff on Wednesday. The talks were closed to the press and the statement did not elaborate on what Stavridis and Ozel discussed.

On November 28, 2012, NATO General-Secretary Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that NATO allies 'will respond positively to Turkey’s demand for Patriot missiles within “days” and that command of the system will be under NATO control'. “Russia has no right to intervene in this process. This is a NATO decision; third parties have nothing to say,” Rasmussen said about Russian objections to the deployment.

Earlier this year, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu declared that Turkey would be the 'owner, pioneer and servant of the post-Arab Spring Middle East'. Turkey has the second largest NATO army.

Photo: Fighters against Ottoman Empire in Syria, 1916. After World War I ended, the Ottoman Turks were finally driven out, and France occupied Syria. The French administered and exercised control of Syria until it finally gained its independence in 1946. France was the first NATO-member to recognize the so called Syrian opposition. It is clear that Turkey and France want to re-colonize Syria with the aid if its NATO-partners and that they have big personal ambitions for the 'New Middle East'.

U.S. intelligence agencies in Syria: Irangate

American.presidents.pissant.tools. for far more powerful people.jpg

The Iran–Contra affair (Persianایران-کنترا‎, Spanishcaso Irán-contras), also referred to as IrangateContragate or the Iran-Contra scandal, was a political scandal in the United States that came to light in November 1986. During the Reagan administration, senior Reagan administration officials secretly facilitated the sale of arms to Iran, the subject of an arms embargo.[1] Some U.S. officials also hoped that the arms sales would secure the release of hostages and allow U.S. intelligence agencies to fund the Nicaraguan Contras

US Dumps Syrian National Council (SNC), Focus Exclusively on Arming “Al Qaeda in Syria”

US dumps Syrian proxy political front in latest move to accelerate long-stalled regime change.

The Washington Post in its recent article, “U.S. looks to build alternative Syrian opposition leadership,” claims:

The Obama administration has spent the past several months in secret diplomatic negotiations aimed at building a new Syrian opposition leadership structure that it hopes can win the support of minority groups still backing President Bashar al-Assad.

The strategy, to be unveiled at a Syrian opposition meeting next week in Qatar, amounts to a last-ditch effort to prevent extremists from gaining the upper hand within the opposition and to stop the Syrian crisis from boiling over into the greater Middle East.

The Post also indicates that de facto “administrative zones” are being set up along the Turkish-Syrian border with “nonlethal” assistance provided by the United States, France and “other like-minded governments.” The so-called “Syrian National Council” is being discarded, as it is wholly seen as illegitimate by both Syrians and the world at large.

The Washington Post would also quote Secretary Clinton:

The SNC, Clinton said, should no longer be considered the “visible leader” of the opposition.

“There has to be a representation of those who are on the front lines, fighting and dying today to obtain their freedom,” she said during an unrelated visit to the Balkan states. “. . . And we also need an opposition that will be on record strongly resisting the efforts by extremists to hijack the Syrian revolution.”

It is clear that both the West’s political proxies, and its armed militant proxies have been compromised and the narrative that tentatively worked against Libya, is now unraveling and failing against Syria. While the US attempts to portray this latest move as an attempt to “prevent extremist elements from gaining the upper hand within the opposition,” it must be remembered that as early as 2007, US officials had admitted that efforts to overthrow the governments of Syria and Iran would include primarily US, Israeli, and Saudi armed extremists drawn from across the Arab World, and sent into Syria to create the very sectarian bloodbath now unfolding. Rhetoric of “freedom” and “democracy” serve merely as cover within which foreign military aggression is couched.

This was first exposed by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh in his 2007 New Yorker report titled, “”The Redirection: Is the Administration’s new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism?

In the report it specifically stated:

“To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has coöperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.” -The Redirection, Seymour Hersh (2007)

Hersh’s report would continue by stating:

“the Saudi government, with Washington’s approval, would provide funds and logistical aid to weaken the government of President Bashir Assad, of Syria. The Israelis believe that putting such pressure on the Assad government will make it more conciliatory and open to negotiations.” -The Redirection, Seymour Hersh (2007)

The link between extremist groups and Saudi funding was also mentioned in the report, and reflects evidence regarding the origin and backers of similar extremists who flooded Iraq during the US occupation, sowing sectarian strife and killing Western troops alike:

“…[Saudi Arabia's] Bandar and other Saudis have assured the White House that “they will keep a very close eye on the religious fundamentalists. Their message to us was ‘We’ve created this movement, and we can control it.’ It’s not that we don’t want the Salafis to throw bombs; it’s who they throw them at—Hezbollah, Moqtada al-Sadr, Iran, and at the Syrians, if they continue to work with Hezbollah and Iran.” -The Redirection, Seymour Hersh (2007)

Image: Will the West’s new “resistance front” in Syria officially include Libyan Mahdi al-Harati of the US State DepartmentUnited Nations, and the UK Home Office (page 5, .pdf)-listed terrorist organization, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG)? Here he is addressing fellow terrorists in Syria. Harati is now commanding a Libyan brigade operating inside of Syria attempting to destroy the Syrian government and subjugate the Syrian population. Traditionally, this is known as “foreign invasion,” not rebellion.

Lavrov pointed out to the necessity that all foreign sides and those who have influence on the 'the Syrian opposition' play their role to fulfill the approach agreed on in Geneva.

He warned that the continuation of violence in Syria would lead to the aggravation of the situation which may erupt in the region, stressing the presence of a lot of foreign extremists, mercenaries and terrorists linked to al-Qaeda among the armed opposition. He also expressed worry over the transition of the conflict to the neighboring countries.

Moscow Strongly Condemns terrorist Bombings in Jaramana, Damascus Countryside

The Russian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the terrorist explosions which hit Jaramana in Damascus countryside, indicating that these bombings bear the imprints of al-Qaeda.

War with Syria: Turkey's Middle East Policy

According to Reuters, Clinton said that Ankara and Washington 'need to plan ways to assist the rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad – including possibly implementing a no-fly zone'.

The war with Syria and the Turkish dream of a neo-Ottoman Empire

the-dismemberment-of-the-ottoman-empire-1683-1924.gif

Earlier this year, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu declared that Turkey would be the 'owner, pioneer and servant of the post-Arab Spring Middle East'.

History

Syria was part of the Ottoman Empire from the 16th through 20th centuries. After the division of Rome into the Eastern and Western empires in the 4th century, Syria came under Byzantine rule. By the late 11th century, the Seljuk Turks had captured most of Syria.

In 1798–99, Napoleon I of France invaded Egypt and also briefly held parts of the Syrian coast. In 1832–33, Ibrahim Pasha, the son of Muhammad Ali of Egypt, annexed Syria to Egypt. Egypt held Syria until 1840, when the European powers (particularly Great Britain) forced its return to the Ottomans.

During World War I the British encouraged Syrian nationalists to fight against the Ottoman Empire. The ambitions of the nationalists were thwarted in the peace settlement, which gave (1920) France a League of Nations mandate over the Levant States (roughly present-day Syria and Lebanon). From this time the term Syria referred approximately to its present territorial extent. France divided Syria into three administrative districts on the pretext that political decentralization would safeguard the rights of minorities. The Arab nationalists angrily asserted that decentralization was also a means of maintaining French control by a divide-and-rule policy.

The French made some concessions after serious disturbances in 1925, which included a rebellion by the Druze and the French bombardment of Damascus. Lebanon was made a completely separate state in 1926, and after long negotiations a treaty was signed (1936) giving Syria a large measure of autonomy. Anti-French feeling continued as a result of the cession of the sanjak of Alexandretta (see Hatay) to Turkey, completed in 1939. In the same year the French suspended the Syrian constitution, and in World War II they garrisoned Syria with a large number of troops, most of whom, after the fall of France in June, 1940, declared loyalty to the Vichy government. Relations with Great Britain deteriorated, and when it was discovered that Syrian airfields had been used by German planes en route to Iraq, British and Free French forces invaded and occupied Syria in June, 1941.

The French proclaimed the creation of an independent Syrian republic in Sept., 1941, and an independent Lebanese republic in Nov., 1941. In 1943, Shukri al-Kuwatli was elected president of Syria, and on Jan. 1, 1944, the country achieved complete independence. However, the continued presence of French troops in Syria caused increasing friction and bloodshed and strained Anglo-French relations. It was not until Apr., 1946, that all foreign troops were withdrawn from the country. In 1945, Syria had become a charter member of the United Nations.

Turkey's Middle East Policy: Too Ambitious?

Latest News: French neo-colonization of Syria

The End Justifies the Means.jpg

The U.S. and its allies, western-backed terrorists and Islamists are not fighting for the welfare of the Syrian people but for the full control and power over the Syrian people

FACTS

1) Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

2) British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain would step up its support for the armed groups in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million). The money is used for terrorist bomb attacks and the undermining of Syria's government.

3) An official source told a SANA reporter that the seized arms included Nato sniper rifles, machineguns, hunting rifles, explosive devices of various weights, devices for remote control detonation and an amount of batteries and electrical wires.

4) The Belgian State Security "has not confirmed" the rumor that Belgian jihadists are fighting in Syria. The newspapers 'Het Belang van Limburg' and 'Gazet van Antwerpen' argued the opposite: "The State Security confirmed the presence of Belgian terrorists in Syria".  Originally the Flemish newspapers relied on a report by Reuters, dated July 31th 2012, citing statements from "several rebel commanders in the north-west Syria," according to which "Muslims in Great Britain, Belgium and the United States had joined the Free Syrian Army (SLA)". On July 13th, Reuters pointed out a flood "of thousands of assault rifles Belgian FN FAL was in the hands of the rebels".  In its annual reports, the Belgian State Security explains how and why she follows people attracted by fighting abroad: there was attention for Iraq, then, from 2010, to the movement towards Pakistan-Afghanistan border area; Finally, most recently, to new locations: "If the Afghan-Pakistan area, more than Iraq, was still popular in 2010 with the majority of volunteers for jihad", the Belgian State Security wrote in his latest report, "some of them began to plot their way to Yemen, Somalia and the Caucasus". And Syria now? "Obviously. Where they are beaten, those who return and who actually participated in the fighting have gained knowledge on how to handle weapons, strategy and tactics of war," noted the Belgian State Security yesterday. "This is the central reason for the Belgian concern".  Belgian Senator Nele Lijnen said that she intends to launch a discussion at the Belgian Senate regarding the fact that the terrorists in Syria possess weapons made in Belgium.

5) The Swiss Authorities announced that they are investigating into information published by Sonntags Zeitung newspaper about hand grenades used by armed terrorist groups in Syria.

6) The weapons and military equipment recently discovered and seized by the Syrian Army in Idlib province proves NATO's arms and logistic support for terrorists in Syria.

7) The seized weapons in Salqain district in Idlib included 7.26 guns along with other weapons as well as boxes of gunshots with the words "NATO BALL" carved on them.

8) The Lebanese army intelligence has seized a large quantity of wea Lutfallah II container pons hidden inside cars aboard an Italian ship at Tripoli port, north of Lebanon, Lebanese security sources told Al-Manar TV.

9) This comes just days after the Lebanese Army Marines confiscated Lutfallah II arms shipment off the Lebanese port of Batoun while it was carrying 300,000 pounds of weapons within three containers. Reports said the cargo ship, which was flying the flag of Sierra-Leone, had left Libya and was bound to Syria.

10) Lebanese terrorist Mohammad Hussein Fares confessed to participating in smuggling weapons, militants and journalists into Syria and committing terrorists acts against Syrians. Fares said that they smuggled assault rifles, RPG rounds, sniper rifles, LAW missiles, machineguns and cases of ammo, delivering them to Amoun, with al-Jarban coming later to distribute them among terrorists.

11) US, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are arming AL-QAEDA Terrorists to commit Terrorism in Syria

12) Over 30,000 various weapons have been channelled to Syria since unrest flared up there in April last year, Amin Khteit says. The overall amount of explosives makes up 300 tons. The deliveries were made by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They depend on the United States, which is making every effort to overpower Syria.

13) The authorities seized weapons smuggled from Turkey in Tal Abyad area on the Syrian-Turkish borders in Raqqa countryside.

14) A Turkish parliamentarian has stressed that Turkish ambulances are transporting weapons to terrorist groups in Syria, expressing their opposition to Ankara's policies on the Syrian case.

15) August 9, 2012: Sarkozy urges Libyan scenario in Syria. Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, the spearhead of last year’s campaign to oust Muammar Gaddafi, has called for rapid international action on Syria, comparing the current crisis with the situation in Libya. Sarkozy has spoken with the Syrian opposition leader, Abdulbaset Sieda, and both agreed there is a need for foreign intervention in Syria in order to stop the ongoing crisis, Reuters reports.

16) August 11, 2012: US and Turkey to consider no-fly zones for Syria - US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu are considering implementing no-fly zones for Syria after holding Saturday talks in Istanbul. According to Reuters, Clinton said that Ankara and Washington need to plan ways to assist the rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad – including possibly implementing a no-fly zone.
(Syria was part of the Ottoman Empire from the 16th through 20th centuries)

17) September 6, 2012: France has embarked on providing direct financial and arms aid to insurgent-held areas of Syria and is even supplying anti-aircraft weapons to terrorists fighting Syrian Army forces.  France has vowed an extra 5 million euros ($6.25 million) to help Syrian armed groups. France is considering supplying heavy artillery to the Syrian rebels. ( On November 15, 2012, France said 'it would float giving rebels defensive weapons' but in September 2012 it was already weapening anti-Syria-government groups. It is thus clear that the French government misleads the French people. Syria was a French Colony from 1918 to 1944...)

18) November 13, 2012: France became the first European power to recognize Syria's new opposition coalition as the sole representative of its people and said it would look into arming rebels against President Bashar al-Assad once they form a government.
(Syria was a French Colony from 1918 to 1944)

19) November 21, 2012: UK joins France in supporting Syrian rebel coalition - British Foreign Secretary William Hague told members of parliament Tuesday that the National Coalition of the Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces was the "sole legitimate representative" of the Syrian people, calling it a "credible" alternative to al-Assad.

20) November 28, 2012: NATO General-Secretary Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that NATO allies will respond positively to Turkey’s demand for Patriot missiles within “days” and that command of the system will be under NATO control.
“Russia has no right to intervene in this process. This is a NATO decision; third parties have nothing to say,” Rasmussen said about Russian objections to the deployment.
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli echoed Kılıçdaroğlu and calling on the government to inform Parliament on the missiles. “We wonder why Prime Minister Erdoğan abruptly requested Patriot missiles from NATO. Have Syrian missiles been directed to Turkey?

Venezuela: full support to Syria

venezuela.gif

Nov 27, 2012 - CARACAS, (SANA)

Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad on Tuesday discussed with Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister Temir Parras the political developments in the Middle East and Latin America.

During the meeting, the two sides described as deep the strategic relations between the two countries and peoples, founded by Leaders of the two countries, Presidents Bashar al-Assad and Hugo Chavez, expressing satisfaction over the implementation of agreements and programs which were signed in Damascus and Caracas.

The Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his country's full support to Syria as leadership and people in the face of foreign conspiracy which seeks to deviate Syria's attention from the main conflict in the region, the Arab-Israeli conflict.

He condemned the terrorist acts carried out by armed groups supported by external countries which pose a threat to the security, safety and stability of Syria, calling for stopping the support of terrorism, funding it or hosting those who perpetrate criminal acts.

For his part, Mikdad expressed Syria's appreciation for the true support of Venezuela to Syria in all fields, indicating to the targets and dimensions of the attack of the western countries, particularly the US, France and Britain in cooperation with Turkey, some Gulf states and Libya and their support to the terrorists, proving them with fatal equipment to weaken Syria and divide its national unity and foil its stances against the Israeli occupation.

The Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister affirmed inevitability of Syria's victory in its war against the terrorism and the foreign intervention in its affairs, this victory which will be considered as a victory for all powers which defend their countries' independence and sovereignty.

Syria: 'Opposition' and islamists struggling for Power

nasser-photo.jpg

On Monday November 19, 2012, Syria's Islamists rejected the country's so called 'new Western-backed opposition coalition' and unilaterally declared an Islamic state.

That is hardly to belief.

The West is giving them money and weapons to gain power because of the U.S. and its allies want full control over the arabian countries in the Middle East.

Photo: Gamal Abdel Nasser Hussein (Arabic: جمال عبد الناصر حسين‎, ). He was the second President of Egypt from 1956 until his death. A colonel in the Egyptian army, Nasser led the Egyptian Revolution of 1952 along with Muhammad Naguib, the first president, which overthrew the monarchy of Egypt and Sudan, and heralded a new period of modernization, and socialist reform in Egypt together with a profound advancement of pan-Arab nationalism, including a short-lived union with Syria. Under his leadership, Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal Company and came to play a central role in anti-imperialist efforts in the Arab World and Africa. The imposed ending to the Suez Crisis made him a hero throughout the Arab world. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the international Non-Aligned Movement. He is well known for his nationalist policies and version of pan-Arabism, also referred to as Nasserism, which won a great following in the Arab World during the 1950s and 1960s. Although his status as "leader of the Arabs" was badly damaged by the Israeli victory over the Arab armies in the Six-Day War, as well as Egypt's failure to win the subsequent War of Attrition against Israel, many in the general Arab population still view Nasser as a symbol of Arab dignity and freedom.

Western powers, western-backed terrorists and Islamists are not fighting for the welfare of the Syrian people but for the full control and power over the Syrian people

The money is used for bomb attacks in Syria.

Syria: Speech of S.V. Lavrov, Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs

Ministry.of. Foreign.Affairs.Russia..jpg

November 14, 2012

Speech and answers of S.V. Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, to mass media questions in the course of joint press conference with Kh. Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, summarizing the results of the Second Ministerial Meeting of Russia - CCASG strategic dialogue, Riyadh.

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

We had very important meeting. As strategic partners we fully and frankly discussed number of issues, focusing on the Syrian crisis for obvious reasons. We agree that it is necessary to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, to ensure settlement of the crisis by the Syrians through inclusive dialogue without any external interference. I shall emphasize that these principles are set in two resolutions, which were approved by the UN Security Council on the basis of consensus.

We proceed from the fact that it is necessary to cease bloodshed in Syria. Terrible things are happening there. We receive reports from non-governmental organizations involved in the observation of human rights ensuring, which state that both warring parties in Syria commit outrages. There are violations of international humanitarian law both by the government and by the opposition. We worry about this very much. Russia believes that the most important priority is to stop the bloodshed. The Geneva communique which is the basis for further work, as we all agree today, directs exactly at this.

We are convinced that it is necessary to search for agreement on the structure of the transitional governing body which was recommended to be created at the meeting in Geneva. The Geneva document contained the appeal to the government and opposition to sit down at the negotiating table and agree on the structure of such transitional governing body. We have a strong belief that, in addition to preserving of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, it is necessary to provide such arrangements, which will ensure social and economic rights, security, worthy place in the political system of the country for all Syrians, all ethnic and religious groups.

Of course, not all our points of view concerning the aspects of current situation coincide – it is natural. Few people exactly know what shall be done. Our colleagues say that probably it is necessary to adopt a resolution of the UN Security Council in furtherance of the Geneva document, but to do it with some specific deadlines after which nobody knows what is going to happen. We believe that, above all things, all external players shall try to force the Syrians to fulfill the Geneva document – nobody tried to do this. If we bring pressure on all those who make war in Syria to fulfill the Geneva arrangements, we will need no resolution, as the communique contains all the components necessary for settlement.

It is pleasant that our colleagues (in CCASG) consider the Geneva document to be good basis for further work. We will continue to consult, share our estimations and opinions on how to make all the Syrians take destiny of their country into their own hands and agree among themselves, because they still have to live in this country together.

It was confirmed at the meeting today that the relations within the strategic dialogue between Russia and the CCASG are multifaceted. No matter how acute the Syrian crisis is, it shall not repress the acuteness of other problems, primarily, the problem of Palestine. What is happening today in the region and in the Palestinian territories worries us very much. We believe that it is necessary to cease fire, attacks and any kind of violence immediately. We are sorry that the Middle East “Quartet” in the previous months, when negative potential already accumulated, was not able to get together and take a clear stand in favor of the early creation of the conditions for the revival of direct negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Now we pay for that missed opportunity, rather, not we, but those who suffer directly on that territory. We are still convinced that the “quartet” shall resume their work as soon as possible, and to act in close cooperation with the League of Arab States. It becomes difficult and ineffective to work separately.

We do not want to forget about the important issue of decision fulfillment of the Review conference of participant-states of the Nuclear Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty, namely on the necessity to summon a conference till the end of this year, in order to discuss the tasks of creation of Middle East area free from the mass destruction weapon and means of its delivery. Russia as one of depository states of the NWNPT is directly engaged in this work. We also consider the aspiration of some our partners to protract the convocation of such conference to be unjustified.

We are all interested in the building of the ways to ensure security and stability in the Persian Gulf together. In the framework of previous contacts with the CCASG states Russia passed their ideas as for this subject. We are grateful to colleagues from the Cooperation Council who expressed positive attitude to our proposals - Bahrain was among them. We are interested in promoting of this topic which is equally important for the whole region.

We are unified by the commitment to fight against the new threats such as terrorism, drug traffic and piracy. I am convinced that this meeting will allow us to develop specific measures on all these directions, which will strengthen our partnership and help to resolve massive problems that have accumulated in the region and around it.

Certainly, we are always open to the expansion of economic and investment cooperation. We have agreed to develop mutually beneficial projects in the field of peaceful application of nuclear power, space exploration and other high-technology industries with a number of the Gulf countries. We stand for the investments from here to Russia and from Russia to the region. It is not as urgent as the crisis settlement, but the more we increase the economic cooperation, the greater benefits will get people of the region, and the fewer opportunities will remain for the extremists to recruit supporters.

I would like to express my appreciation to the hosts for this meeting once again and special thanks to Kh. Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa, the CCASG Chairman, my friend and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain.

Question: Taking into account the developments in the region, especially the Syrian crisis, unification of different groups of Syrian opposition, may Russia once again raise the question in the UN Security Council without using priority of veto which blocks the adoption of the resolution? Is it condition for transition process, in Russia’s point of view, that B. Assad stays in power?

S.V. Lavrov: If you take a look at the merits of the case, with all the short history of this issue, you will know that the Russian Federation was the first who suggested the UN Security Council to get on with the Syrian crisis. It was done at the beginning of August 2011, when the UN Security Council approved by consensus the Statement by the Chairman, which conceived all the approaches that are unchallenged now, namely retention of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, inter-Syrian dialogue, non-interference in the internal affairs of the SAR, etc. Later two resolutions on the K. Annan plan and on the deployment of a UN Observation Mission in Syria were adopted. Those who did not want to calm the situation disrupted the mission activity, having created unbearable conditions for the stay of observers, who were forced to leave that place.

As for the current situation, after the achievement of consensus in Geneva, we suggested to approve by the resolution the communique of the UN Security Council adopted there. Our partners were not ready for this. They wanted to include in the resolution the provisions, which were absent in the Geneva arrangements, including demand of the regime change, the prospect of sanctions, establishment of false deadlines, after which some threats will be activated.

You understand that it was impossible to negotiate on this basis. But, again, Russia proposed to approve the Geneva consensus in the UN Security Council. We also offered to get together the “Action Group” in New York in August of this year, which met in Geneva and draw out the communique. But our partners, unfortunately, escaped the continuation of the “Action group” work.

As for the last part of your question, I can say that Russia is not engaged in regime change and does not dictate what to do to any heads of states. Russia does not hold on to any regime, does not protect B. Assad - nothing like that. We are on the side of the Syrian people. If destiny of B. Assad is the most important thing in this story for someone, then it is necessary to realize that the blood will continue to shed. He publicly stated his intention to stay and die in his own country, to continue the fight, not because someone makes him do it, but because it is his decision, which he said about. I shall repeat if the most important thing is the destiny of B. Assad, the cost of this priority will be a lot of new victims in Syria. Our main priority is to avoid these victims.

As I have already said, the Geneva communique contains all components which may be used by external players (if everyone acts fairly) to give a chance to cease the fire and start the political dialogue on formation of transitional body to agree on the content and terms of the transitional period.

The Syrians themselves shall negotiate, but nobody shall prescribe and impose arrangements for them. In such case, they will not be efficient.

Question: You have always wanted the Syrian opposition to be consolidated. Now it has happened. What is the official position of Russia on the formation of the corresponding coalition of the Syrian opposition?

S.V. Lavrov: As we stated at the meeting today, not all the Syrian opposition is consolidated yet. Certain groups, which were presented at the meeting in Doha, are consolidated. But leading intra-Syrian opposition structures did not go there. As they claim that they have difference of opinion on ways of the Syrian crisis solution. First of all, these differences relate to the attitude to the external military actions.

We inevitably stand for consolidation of the Syrian opposition and meet all its representatives - both internal and external opposition. Contacts take place in Moscow, in places where the relevant groups are represented, whether it is Damascus, Istanbul, Paris, London, and the United States. We call up all the oppositionists to consolidate and to form a negotiation team. But they have to be consolidated on the platform of readiness for negotiations and dialogue.

We still have to analyze the results of the meeting in Doha. But cursory examination of the document adopted there leaves a lot of questions. For example, it says that the consolidation took place on uncompromising base of the regime overthrow and destruction of all the institutions of this regime; and only when all the institutions will be dismantled, the need for nationwide conference, which will decide what to do next, will be discussed. There was a moment in our national history when Bolsheviks sang after the European revolutionaries that “we will raze the whole world, and then we build our world”. So first of all, it is necessary to destroy everything.

I do not think that this way will allow avoiding the chaos. The document adopted in Doha states that all oppositionists, who got together there, flatly refuse to be engaged in dialogue with the government. Hence, the consolidation took place not on the basis that was laid down in the Geneva document, adopted by consensus.

Of course we will have to understand what stands behind the formulations adopted in Doha.

Question: Will the second meeting of the “Action group” with the participation of the Persian Gulf countries take place? If yes, when?

And yet, the Syrian opposition coalition did not include “internal opposition”. How, in your opinion, is it possible to stop the bloodshed and start the dialogue without the group representing the majority of the Syrian opposition forces?

S.V. Lavrov: When the agreement on the text of the communique was reached in Geneva, we proposed to hold another meeting of the “Action Group” in New York, to discuss practical ways of work with all opposition groups and the government in order to implement the Geneva compromise. Our partners were not ready for this. As you can see, they now have a slightly different course to influence the situation.

The internal opposition for the most part was not represented in Doha and had disagreement with some participants of the meeting concerning the reliance on military intervention from outside. I think that without internal opposition and its involvement in the process it is difficult to expect that it will be inclusive and all-Syrian as written in the decisions of the UN Security Council.

We stand for the fact that internal opposition shall be included in the constructive processes rather than those based on the rejection of dialogue.

Question: Russia has lost the Arab people due to its position in support of B. Assad. What else do you want to lose?

S.V. Lavrov: It is obviously not a question, but the statement, and you made it. I respect your point of view. But since I live in Russia and regularly meet the representatives of the Arab states, I would say that I do not feel that they consider us to be lost for them. This also applies to each and all groups of the Syrian opposition, which we met. All of them are interested in presence of Russia in the region, emphasize the balancing, compensating role of the Russian Federation and understand well that the region problems are not limited to the Syrian crisis. When it is overcome (and it will be overcome), these problems break out with new urgency. It is already happening.

Look at what is happening in and around the Gaza Strip. Arab people know the history of all these problems, as well as our consistent position, including in favor of respect for the principles of international law. Among them is the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, including respect for the prerogatives of the UN Security Council, which is destined to deal with the settlement of disputes and which among its authority has no ability to maintain the revolution and regime change. Do not make decisions instead of the Arab people, they are wise, they see and understand everything.

22 November 2012 – United Nations officials today highlighted the need to defend freedom of expression and ensure the safety of journalists, noting that 2012 is set to become one of the deadliest years for media workers covering not just conflicts but also illegal activities in their countries.

“Today's meeting could not be more timely,” the Director-General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Irina Bokova, said in her message to the 2nd UN Inter-Agency Meeting on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity in Vienna, Austria.

“More than 100 journalists have been killed so far this year, making 2012 the deadliest year for the media since UNESCO began keeping records on the killings of journalists. And we are only in November.”

The meeting, attended by UN agencies, independent experts, governments, media houses, and civil society organizations will discuss the most pressing issues facing freedom of expression today and will create a new UN strategy to improve the safety of media workers and effectively prosecute those who commit crimes against them.

Earlier attacks heavily damaged two buildings that housed Sky News, Italian RAI, German ARD and Kuwait TV, as well as the Hamas TV station Al Aqsa. Some of the injured were from Ma'an news agency, and a cameraman for al-Quds TV had to have his leg amputated. RT's office in Gaza was affected too. The attack came after the office of Iran's English-language Press TV channel in Gaza was hit twice in the Israeli aerial assaults.
The buildings were heavily damaged.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) explained that they are targeting Hamas militants, 'and the journalists who are not journalists who spread propaganda for Hamas'.

U.S. intensifies military encirclement of China

NATO war games in Azerbaijan.jpg

Voice of Russia

November 24, 2012

US intensifies military encirclement of China

Rick Rozoff

“With the emergence of China as the world’s second-largest economy and its concomitant renewal of (comparatively minor) territorial claims in the East China Sea and South China Sea, the stage is set for a U.S.-Chinese confrontation of a nature and on a scale not seen since before the Sino-Soviet split of 1960″, Rick Rozoff, Stop Nato.

Following the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization throughout Europe over the past thirteen years, every European nation is now a full member of or involved in one or more partnership arrangements with the U.S.-led military bloc (except for Cyprus, which, however, is under intensified pressure to join the Partnership for Peace program). Having thus enforced a cordon sanitaire on Russia’s western and much of its southern frontier, it was inevitable that the U.S. and its allies would next move to encircle, quarantine and ultimately confront China.

In the past decade the Pentagon has begun conducting annual multinational military exercises in countries bordering China (Khaan Quest in Mongolia, Steppe Eagle in Kazakhstan) and near it (Angkor Sentinel in Cambodia), has with its NATO allies waged war and moved into bases in nations bordering China – Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan – as well as nearby Uzbekistan, and, even before the official announcement of the strategic shift to the Asia-Pacific region, acquired the use of new military facilities in Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Australia, Singapore and the Philippines.

President Obama’s current visit to Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s simultaneous trip to Australia, Cambodia and Thailand are exemplary of this trend.

Early this year NATO announced the launching of its latest, and first non-geographically specific, partnership program, Partners Across the Globe, which began with the incorporation of eight Asia-Pacific nations: Afghanistan, Australia, Iraq, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Korea.

Since the summer of 2010 the U.S. has been courting the ten members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam), several of whom are embroiled in island disputes with China, for inclusion into a rapidly evolving Asian analogue of NATO. This includes the eight above-mentioned new NATO partners and is intended to be a super-Cold War era-like bloc, subsuming the former members of the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO), Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) and Australia, New Zealand, United States Security Treaty (ANZUS) into a systematic initiative aimed against China.

The so-called “Asia-Pacific pivot” also entails the deployment of 60 percent of total American naval assets – quantitatively the largest and qualitatively the most technologically advanced and lethal in the world – to the Asia-Pacific region. Even before that, the U.S. Pacific Command’s area of responsibility had included over 50 percent of the world’s surface, more than 100 million square miles, with U.S. Central Command bordering China and India in the other direction. The U.S. Seventh Fleet, tasked to patrol the waters of the Asia-Pacific, is the largest overseas naval force in the world and will be further enhanced by the U.S. Navy’s intensified deployment to the region. The U.S. has eleven of the world’s twelve nuclear aircraft carriers and all eleven supercarriers.

Washington is also incorporating several Asia-Pacific nations into its global interceptor missile grid, in its initial avatar launched in conjunction with NATO and the so-called European Phased Adaptive Approach, which will station increasingly longer-range land-based missiles in Romania and Poland. This in addition to Aegis class cruisers and destroyers equipped with Standard Missile-3 interceptors in the Mediterranean and likely later in the Baltic, Norwegian, Black and even Barents Seas.

The Pentagon’s partners in the Asia-Pacific wing of the international missile system, which targets China, as the European version does Russia, include to date Japan, South Korea, Australia and Taiwan, with the Philippines reported to be the future host of two Forward-Based X-Band Radar-Transportable interceptor sites of the sort deployed to Turkey at the beginning of this year and to Israel in 2008.

China is a key component of the two groups representing the greatest potential for a multi-polar world, BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Russia, its partner in both, confronting the same threats from the West, must, in its own interest as well as those of world peace and equilibrium, support China against American brinkmanship and gunboat diplomacy.

Gaza ceasefire: Analysis of Shanghai International Studies University

Israeli air strike.Gaza.strip.PillarofDefense.jpg

Gaza Strip might come to a deadlock despite ceasefire

November 24, 2012

A senior official at Egyptian security sector announced on Nov. 21 that all armed groups of Israel and Palestine including Hamas have reached a ceasefire agreement.

Why did both sides give a heavy blow to each other?

Both Israel and Palestine had been maintaining a restrained attitude since Israel launched the “Operation Cast Lead” and hit Hamas heavily, but there are profound reasons for this war.

In addition to taking revenge on the rocket attacks of Hamas, Israel is about to hold parliamentary election in early 2013, so Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hopes to win re-election by taking tough measures. Hamas also hopes to increase its influence in Palestine by war.

The current situation in the Middle East is more conducive to Palestine, said Hua Liming, special research fellow of China Institute of International Studies.

The former Egyptian administration friendly to Israel has collapsed and the old rival Iran takes the opportunity to grow strong and insubordinate, so Israel is isolated and marginalized.

“For that reason, Israel falling into the ‘security dilemma’ is eager to accentuate its status through the use of force,” said Zhu Weilie, honorary director of the Middle East Studies Institute under Shanghai International Studies University.

Hamas also hopes to prove its leading role in Arab resistance forces with actions, thereby strengthening its influence in Palestine.

Why do they choose to stop?

Under the current serious situation, it is necessary for both sides to stop promptly.

In spite of heavy losses in the Pillar of Defense, Hamas won a lot politically, capturing the world attention and attracting enormous public and Arabian support. A protracted fighting would overstretch its arms.

As for Israel, it has punished Hamas with violent military assaults, as could be used as an acceptable response to the country. Expansion of the war or waging of ground warfare would earn greater media rebukes. Therefore, Israel is willing to end “the Pillar of Defense” honorably.

However, the ceasefire is likely to be only temporary. Anything could happen to resume the fighting. Thus, some analysts predicted that in the future Gaza might be locked in a “hot stalemate” of “no war and no peace.”

Latest News: Victims of American warfare

orange.victim.american.warfare.jpg“I too am an Agent Orange Second Generation Victim. For years I have felt very isolated and unsure of what to do. I am a wife and mother of 3 healthy children. I am 37 yrs old and was born with Severe Hip Dysplasia. From the time I was 13 months old, I had reconstruction surgery every few years until I was 17 years old and at that time had my 1st Total Hip Replacement. I am now getting ready for my 5th Total Hip Replacement and 4th Pelvic Reconstruction since 17. I am also battling several rare forms of skin cancer that are life threatening. These cancers are seen in older generations that have had "extreme carcinogenic and pesticide exposure". I have had no direct exposure to these. I have gone through 2 rounds of chemotherapy in the last 4 years only to have the cancer come back stronger. I am in surgery for tumor removal at least once a month. The hundreds of scars on my body are horrific. My Doctors cannot put me through anymore chemotherapy as I have been told my body will not make it. There is a drug that is currently in trials that at the very least would buy me some time. The drug companies manufacturing this have denied me access to the trial as I am "too sick" and would "mess up their numbers". I have gone several rounds with the V.A. only to be denied time and again because I don't have Spina Bifida and because my Father served in Vietnam and not my Mother. My Father served in Vietnam during the heaviest spray periods. I have had numerous tests done and every Medical Professional has said without a doubt ALL of my medical issues today and at birth are a DIRECT result of my Father's exposure to Agent Orange. He also has numerous medical conditions ALL of which have been linked to the Agent Orange exposure.”

Victims of US chemical warfare

In the 3,160 villages in the southern part of Vietnam within the Agent Orange spraying zone, 800,000 people continue to suffer serious health problems and are in need of constant medical attention.

A third generation of Vietnamese are suffering deformities caused by US chemical warfare and still Washington refuses to accept responsibility.

Gaza: Israel 'deeply grateful to Washington'

Israel 'deeply grateful to the United States'

1) On November 15, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for urging his cabinet to accept a U.S. proposal to extend a freeze on West Bank settlement building for 90 days. Under the plan, Washington would block UN resolutions critical of Israel, and supply Israel with fighter jets worth $3 billion. The US government also promised Israel that after the 90-day moratorium, they would not seek an extension, and settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (all of which is illegal under international law) could continue unabated.

2) In February 2011, more than 100 nations voted for a U.N. resolution that would have condemned illegal Israeli settlements and halted any new construction. The United States vetoed it.

3) On February 19, 2011, Israel said it was 'deeply grateful to the United States' after it vetoed a United Nations resolution put forward by the Palestinian leadership condemning Israeli settlement activity.

4) On Oct 27, 2011, Israeli jetfighters engaged in aerial bombing of the Palestinian city of Khan Yunes in the Gaza Strip.

5) On 21.11.2012,  Barack Obama, speaking to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by telephone, underlined America's unwavering support for Israel's security and said he hoped to "intensify" U.S. assistance...

Latest News Syria: President Bashar al-Assad

Al.Assad.Ali.Larijjani.jpg

Nov. 24, 2012 - DAMASCUS, (SANA) – President Bashar al-Assad on Friday received Speaker of Iranian Shura Council, Ali Larijani, and the accompanying delegation.

The meeting tackled the situation in the region, especially the failure of the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the victory of the Palestinian Resistance, and the keenness of Syria and Iran on adhering to resistance and supporting it.

Larijani hailed the wise stances of the Syrian leadership in dealing with the crisis, stressing Iran's support to Syria.

President al-Assad highly appreciated Iran's keenness on helping the Syrian people and supporting political dialogue, stressing that Syria will continue work on making national dialogue a success and simultaneously fighting terrorism which aims at destabilizing the security of Syria and the whole region.

President al-Assad and Larijani stressed Syria and Iran's keenness on enhancing bilateral relations in all fields and continuing cooperation and coordination over regional issues of mutual concern.

The meeting was attended by Speaker of the People's Assembly, Dr. Jihad al-Lahham, and the Iranian Ambassador in Damascus.

Answering a question by the press on the visit, President al-Assad said that "It is not an emergency visit; there is continuous communication between us and the Iranian officials. But when the visit is on the level of Speaker of the Parliament, we reassess all the visits made by other officials, especially in these circumstances, the last of which was the Israeli aggression on Gaza which took up a great deal of the dialogue today."

For his part, Dr. Larijani said "Of course we made valuable and very important discussions, particularly regarding the events in Palestine and the great victory achieved by the Palestinian people and the Syrian leadership and people. President al-Assad and his father, the late president Hafez al-Assad, had a very important role in the Palestinian Resistance."

"At a time when some countries in the region were afraid of sending one bullet to the Palestinians, the Syrian government and people were putting all resources at the disposal of the Palestinian people. This is what made some of the region's countries send armed groups to Syria," Larijani said.

"We highly value the role of the Syrian government and people who have always supported the Resistance," he concluded.

Speaker of the People's Assembly, Dr. Jihad al-Lahham also met Dr. Larijani. The two sides discussed the cooperation relations in the parliamentary field and ways to promote them to achieve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

Earlier on September 19th, President al-Assad met Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi. The meeting tackled enhancing bilateral cooperation in all fields as to enable the people of Syria and Iran to overcome the unjust unilateral economic sanctions imposed on the two countries and the latest development regarding the crisis in Syria.‬

Larijani Reiterates Iran's Rejection of Foreign Interference in Syria's Internal Affairs and Support for Political Dialogue

Later on Friday evening, at a press conference following his meeting with Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri in Beirut, Larijani affirmed Iran's utter rejection of any kind of military intervention in Syria, saying that the worst kind of injustice against Syrians is arming some and driving them to fight in Syria.

He said that the difference in viewpoints between Iran and others is that others want to impose democracy by force of arms, while Iran rejects this as such an approach proved to lead only to further bloodshed and destruction.

Larijani affirmed that Iran supports political dialogue and democratic reforms in Syria, stressing that those who send weapons to feed infighting in Syria seek to undermine the resistance against Israel.

On the issue of Turkey's deployment of Patriot missiles on its borders with Syria, Larijani said that such a step wouldn't solve the crisis in Syria, saying that Iran and Turkey differ in viewpoints regarding the methods employed by Turkey to handle the crisis.

He stressed that no external side can make preconditions for resolving the crisis in Syria, saying that efforts to realize democracy in Syria must be reached through ballots.

The website of the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA is regularly blocked by Washington that doesn't want a political solution and doesn't stop its financial and military aid to terrorist groups.
C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. Weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries to Syria.
