Latest News Syria: Nato's game is over

Germany.Lt. General I. Jurgen Bornemann.Military Representative to NATO.Germany) with General W. Schneiderhan.Chief of Defence,Germany..jpgThe geopolitical strategy of Nato seems a copy and an improvement of the plan of Nazi Germany...

From history

The New Order (German: Neuordnung) or the New Order of Europe (German: Neuordnung Europas) was the political order which Nazi Germany wanted to impose on Europe, and eventually the rest of the world. The establishment of the New Order was already begun long before the start of World War II, but was publicly proclaimed by Adolf Hitler in 1941: 'The year 1941 will be, I am convinced, the historical year of a great European New Order'.
---
Nazi Germany’s desire for aggressive territorial expansionism was one of the key triggers that led to the outbreak of World War II.
Historians are still divided as to its ultimate goals, some believing that it was to be limited to Nazi German domination of Europe, while others maintain that it was a springboard for eventual world conquest and the establishment of a world government under German control
---
“The Führer gave expression to his unshakable conviction that the Reich will be the master of all Europe. We shall yet have to engage in many fights, but these will undoubtedly lead to most wonderful victories. From there on the way to world domination is practically certain. Whoever dominates Europe will thereby assume the leadership of the world.”
Joseph Goebbels, 8 May 1943
---
The term Neuordnung originally had a different and more limited meaning than in its present usage. It is typically translated as New Order, but a more correct translation would actually be more akin to re-structurization. When it was used in Germany during the Third Reich-era it referred specifically to the Nazis' desire to essentially redraw the contemporary state borders within Europe, thereby changing the then-existing geopolitical structures.
---
Hitler’s ideas about eastward expansion that he promulgated in Mein Kampf were greatly influenced during his 1924 imprisonment by his contact with his geopolitical mentor Karl Haushofer.[11] One of Haushofer’s primary geopolitical concepts was the necessity for Germany to get control of the Eurasian Heartland in order for Germany to attain eventual world domination.
---
In a subsequently published speech given at Erlangen University in November 1930 Hitler explained to his audience that no other people had more of a right to fight for and attain "control" of the globe (Weltherrschaft, i.e. "world leadership", "world rule") than the Germans. He realized that this extremely ambitious goal could never be achieved without an enormous amount of fighting.[13] Hitler had alluded to future German world dominance even earlier in during his political career. In a letter written by Rudolf Hess to Walter Hewel in 1927, Hess paraphrases Hitler's vision: "World peace is certainly an ideal worth striving for; in Hitler's opinion it will be realizable only when one power, the racially best one, has attained complete and uncontested supremacy. That [power] can then provide a sort of world police, seeing to it at the same time that the most valuable race is guaranteed the necessary living space.
---
Hitler hoped to turn Germany into a total blockade-proof autarky by exploiting the vast resources lying in Soviet territories: the Ukraine was to provide grain, vegetable oil, feeding-stuffs, iron ore, nickel, manganese, coal, molybdenum; the Crimea natural rubber, citrus fruit and cotton; the Black Sea fish and the Caucasus crude oil.
---
The long-term objective as detailed by Hitler in Mein Kampf was the incorporation of large territories in Eastern Europe for German settlement, eventually expanding the territory of the Third Reich all the way to the Ural Mountains. Acquisition of settlement colonies in Eastern Europe would therefore solve the question of lebensraum.
---
Hitler's geopolitical thoughts about Africa always occupied a secondary position to his expansionist aims in Europe itself: "A colonial policy only makes sense if you first control the continent". His public announcements prior to outbreak of the war that Germany's former colonies be returned to it served primarily as bargaining chips to further territorial goals in Europe itself.
---
In 1940, the general staff of the German Navy produced a much more detailed plan accompanied by a map showing a proposed German colonial empire  in sub-Saharan Africa, extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean. The establishment of a vast colonial empire was to serve primarily economic purposes. The area included all pre-WWI German colonial territories in Africa, as well as additional parts of the French, Belgian and British colonial holdings in Africa.
A second part of the plan entailed the construction of a huge string of fortified naval and air bases for future operations against the Western hemisphere spanning much of the Atlantic coastline of Europe and Africa from Trondheim in Norway all the way up to the Belgian Congo, as well as many off-lying islands such as Cape Verde and the Azores. A less extensive but similar initiative was intended for the east coast of Africa.
---
In 1942, a secret diplomatic conference was held between Nazi Germany and the Japanese Empire in which they agreed to divide Asia along a line that followed the Yenisei River to the border of China, and then along the border of China and the Soviet Union, the northern and western borders of Afghanistan, and the border between Iran and India (what is now Pakistan was then part of India).
---
After the projected fall of the USSR, Hitler planned to intensify the war in the Mediterranean. The OKW produced studies concerning an attack against the Suez Canal through Turkey, an offensive towards Baghdad-Basra from the Caucasus (most of which was already under German occupation as a result of Fall Blau) in support of revolting Arab nationalists, and operations in Afghanistan and Iran directed against British India.
---
Turkey was favoured as a potential ally by Hitler because of its important strategic location on the boundaries of Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as its extensive history as a state hostile against the Russian Empire as well as the later Soviet Union.
To assure that Germany wanted to work with them on a long-range basis, the Turks were guaranteed an equal status in the German-dominated order, and were promised a number of territories which they might desire for reasons of security. These encompassed Edirne (Adrianople) and a rectification of Turkish frontiers at the expense of Greece, the creation of buffer states in the Caucasus under Turkish influence, a rectification of the Turkish-Syrian frontier (the Baghdad Railway and the State of Aleppo) and the Turkish-Iraq frontier (the Mosul region), as well as a settlement of "the Aegean question" to provide Turkey with suitable protection against encroachments from Italy. The Black Sea (which Hitler derided as "a mere frog-pond")was also to be conceded to Turkey as part of its sphere of influence, for this would negate the need of stationing a German navy in the region to replace the Soviet Black Sea Fleet.
---
Allied-occupied Iran was also to be drawn into the Axis camp, possibly by the means of an uprising. The possibility of Iran as an anti-Soviet bastion was already considered in the 1930s, and coincided with Hitler's declaration of Iran as an "Aryan state" (the name Iran literally means "homeland of the Aryans" in Persian). The changing of Persia's name to Iran in 1935 was done by the Shah at the suggestion of the German ambassador to Iran as an act of "Aryan solidarity". On the eve of WWII Germany was already Iran's single-biggest trading partner, followed by the USSR, Britain, and the US.
---
During pre-war diplomatic maneuvers, the NSDAP Foreign Affairs Office took special interest in Afghanistan, believing that the Kaiserreich had failed to exploit the country diplomatically during the First World War despite the Niedermayer-Hentig Expedition. The objective was to ensure that the country would remain neutral during a possible German-British conflict, and even use it militarily against British India or Soviet Russia. Despite the NSDAP Foreign Office's good relations with the Afghan government, the Foreign Ministry under Ribbentrop favored overthrowing the current government and restoration of the rule of Amānullāh Khān, who had been living in exile since 1929.
After the German-French armistice of 1940, the Kabul government tried to question Berlin on German plans concerning the future of Afghanistan. Of special interest were the post-war borders of the country - the Afghan government hoped to see the "liberation" of 15 million ethnic Afghans living in British India, and the securing of the northern Afghan border so that an expansion towards the Indian Ocean became possible.
---
The Third Saudi State under Ibn Saud was seen as a natural ally, and was to be given territorial concessions in south-west Arabia and Transjordan. Also, a post-war satellite Greater Arab Union was discussed.
On February 17, 1945 Hitler explained to his entourage his regrets that Germany's prior alliance with its southern neighbour had prevented her from pursuing a 'more revolutionary' policy towards the Arab world, which would have also allowed its exit from the British and French spheres of influence in the area.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel: 'Security must be assured in future too'

Merkel.2012-05-21-begruessung-nato-gipfe.jpg

On October, 26th 2011, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and German Chancellor Angela Merkel addressed the media during a news conference after a meeting at the Chancellery in Berlin, Germany. Rasmussen said the alliance wanted to confirm a decision to end its operations in Libya by Oct. 31.  Rasmussen: 'The U.N.’s resolution adopted earlier in the day reflects that we have fully accomplished our mandate to protect the civilian population of Libya. Even though I do not foresee a major NATO role in Libya in the post-conflict period, if requested the alliance could assist the new Libyan government in the transformation to democracy, particularly in the areas of defense and security sector reforms'.

Nato

As part of military preparations for war with the Soviet Union, Nato organised a covert network throughout Western Europe, ostensibly to prepare for armed resistance in the event of a Russian 'invasion'. This "Gladio" network involved sections of the far right in some countries and in the 1960s and 1970s was to become involved in terrorist attacks intended to destabilise politics and society and prevent the left from coming to power. Italy was the country where the Gladio network came closest to the surface.

The threat posed by democracy was dealt with most dramatically in Greece in April 1967. The army seized power to prevent politics moving to the left, installing a military junta in power that ruled by force and the free use of torture. The Greek colonels had the support of Nato until they were overthrown in 1974.

Through Nato, the US is able to exercise influence over the domestic affairs of other countries and to exercise its imperial power.

'Iraq urges end to Turkey PKK attacks'

Iraq has called for an end to the presence of Turkish military forces on its land, demanding that Turkey stop its attacks on members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

“The cabinet decided to reject the presence of any foreign bases or forces on Iraqi land and to reject the entry of any foreign military forces into Iraqi land,” said Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Dabbagh reiterated that the Turkish military action against the PKK members on Iraqi land “contradicts the principles of good neighborly relations.”

The Iraqi cabinet “recommends that parliament cancel or not extend any treaty signed in the past with any foreign state that allows the presence of foreign forces and military bases on Iraqi land or the entry of these forces,” the Iraqi government spokesman stated.

The remarks were made in response to a request by the Turkish government on Monday from its parliament to renew a mandate, expiring on October 17, that allows Turkish military strikes against the PKK in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq.

The treaty in question was signed by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in 1995, allowing Turkish forces to have presence in the northern regions of Iraq to target the Kurdish group.

The military presence of Turkish forces and their crossing into Iraq “is a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and security,” Dabbagh added.

Some analysts believe that Baghdad’s decision may be a reaction to Turkey’s refusal to extradite fugitive Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, who has been sentenced to death in absentia by an Iraqi court for running terror squads in Iraq.

Over the past months, Turkish military forces and the PKK have been involved in one of their heaviest clashes since the beginning of the Kurdish group’s armed opposition against Ankara.

In July, Baghdad warned Ankara against the “violation” of its territory and airspace by Turkish fighter jets and called on its foreign ministry to file a complaint with the UN Security Council over the issue.

Turkey is one of five European nations that continue to house U.S. tactical nuclear weapons allocated for NATO.

Some months ago, Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists and C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and 'medical' working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

On October 4, 2012, Adm. George Stavridis, the commander of US European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in Ankara. The meeting took place at General Staff headquarters but was only announced to the public in a statement released by the General Staff some days later. The talks were closed to the press and the statement did not elaborate on what Stavridis and Ozel discussed. It proved once again that the Turkish government is not only arming Syrian terrorists but organizes with its NATO allies (with Israel in the background) also a real war against Syria.

Israeli-Turkish ties have deteriorated over Israel's refusal to apologize for the deaths of nine Turkish activists in a raid on a Gaza-bound aid ship last year, but according to US officials, Hillary Clinton urged Turkey to “keep the door open” to better ties with Israel.

It is important to know that in May 1997, Israel and Turkey signed an agreement valued in excess of US $500 million for the establishment of a joint-venture between Israel's Rafael and Turkey's Turkish Aerospace Industries for the co-production of Popeye I and Popeye II missiles in Turkey.
The Popeye is an air to ground missile developed and in use by Israel, of which several types have been developed for Israeli and export users. A substantially modified long-range cruise missile variant of the Popeye Turbo has been speculated as being employed in Israel's submarine-based nuclear forces.
Israel has exported Popeye and its variants to various friendly countries:
Australia: Royal Australian Air Force
India: Indian Air Force
South Korea: Republic of Korea Air Force
Turkey: Turkish Air Force

President Obama, was the 2009 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples".

As a reminder: In 2003 Turkey was being bitterly criticized in the US for 'failing to allow us combat troops to use Turkey as a launching pad to open a second front in northern Iraq'.

'US envoy reveals secret assistance offer to Turkey in PKK fight'

The US ambassador to Turkey has revealed that Washington secretly offered Ankara to have an “anti-bin Laden” type of joint operation against a number of military leaders of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)...

On Tuesday, Francis Ricciardone revealed to Turkish journalists that the US had offered Turkey its military technology to hunt down the PKK leaders.

However, the Turkish government turned down the offer, saying it would continue battling with the PKK “on the basis of its laws and experiences.”

The PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region inside Turkey since the 1980s.

Ankara has carried out several military operations against the PKK in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan also confirmed on October 16 that he had rejected the offer on a rather technical basis.

Erdogan recalled the US operation near the Pakistani capital Islamabad in May 2011 that led to the death of Osama bin Laden.

“Bin Laden was caught in a house,” said the Turkish premier, adding, “But the struggle here is in mountainous geography.”

This is reportedly the second disclosed secret offer of assistance by the US.

'Turkish policeman, eight PKK members killed in clashes'

At least nine people, including one policeman, have been killed in clashes between police and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in Turkey’s southeastern province of Sirnak...

Heavy fighting erupted after PKK members attacked the building of Sirnak provincial government, a police department and a police checkpoint with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades on Sunday.

Law enforcement agents have cordoned off the area and launched manhunt operations to arrest PKK members involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, Turkish troops backed by jets, launched an offensive against the Kurdish rebels in Sirnak.

Clashes between Turkish troops and PKK fighters have intensified in recent months.

Six Turkish soldiers and three PKK members were killed in overnight clashes along a highway in the remote province of Hakkari bordering Iraq and Iran.

PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region inside Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead.

Russia warns NATO

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.jpg

Russia warns NATO of ‘unpleasant response’

Russia has warned that it may deliver an unpleasant “technical response” to NATO over the planned deployment of a NATO missile system in Europe.

"The Russian response is currently mostly virtual, political, and diplomatic in character, but under certain circumstances we would be forced to deliver a technical response, which I don't think you'll like," UPI quoted Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin as saying at a meeting with NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow on Thursday.

The United States and NATO agreed to establish a missile system during a summit in Lisbon in 2010, but negotiations between Russia and the Western military alliance have foundered on NATO’s refusal to give Russia legal guarantees that the system would not target the country’s strategic nuclear deterrent.

Moscow has also called for the shared control of any missile system. Washington, however, refuses to share the system’s control with any third party.

In return, Russia has threatened to aim a new generation of missiles at military targets in Europe and to deploy its own missile interceptors in the Kaliningrad region on the Baltic Sea coast.

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin called NATO “a Cold War atavism,” saying the alliance should turn into a political organization.

"Why it (NATO) still exists in modern times, is just not clear. It is to a significant extent a throwback to the times of the Cold War," Putin said.

"I have always believed that NATO is a Cold War atavism. It was set up at a time, when there was a bipolar system in international relations. Today, that situation has changed therefore, it is hard to understand or justify why an organization such as NATO should be existing today,” the president added.

Russia has repeatedly objected to the establishment of the NATO missile system, saying the country is the main target of the system as it possesses a significant number of nuclear weapons. It is clear that NATO is not a military defense system but a war machine in service of the American-European Empire.

Putin calls for taking military-technical cooperation with BRICS to new level

NOVO OGAREVO: President Vladimir Putin called for raising military-technical cooperation with partner countries from the BRICS Group – Brazil, India, China, and South Africa – and also with Vietnam to a new level.

“We will develop cooperation with our partners from the BRICS Group and with Vietnam,” Putin said at a meeting of the Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation on Wednesday, October 17.

“Given the growing technological, industrial and scientific potential of these countries, military-technical cooperation with them can and should be raised to a qualitatively new level,” the president said.

He said he meant “deep industrial cooperation and joint research, creation of effective maintenance and after-sale service systems, and joint access to third countries”.

Putin recalled that “the BRICS countries have been dynamically gaining political, economic and technological momentum over the last several years, and showing high and stable growth rates. BRICS countries account for 43 percent of the world’s population and their combined GDP is makes up about one-fifth of the global”.

He believes that Russia has “built a constructive dialogue” with these countries, and it has been successfully coordinating actions with them on a wide range of global and regional issues.

India and China are “traditional key partners” of Russia in military-technical cooperation. “We see broad prospects for relations in this field with Brazil and South Africa,” he said.

Putin said Vietnam is “one of the trusted partners of Russia” with which “we are intensifying military-technical cooperation after some pause in the 1990s”.

As an example, Putin cited India with which “we do not limit ourselves to the supply of finished products only and give more and more attention to join R&D work and licensed production, including for supply to other countries”.

“Benefits are obvious: joint production allows us to reduce production costs, obtain and introduce new technologies, including dual purpose ones, and organise rational transfer of technologies from the defence indsutry to civilian sectors,” the president said.

7) The seized weapons in Salqain district in Idlib included 7.26 guns along with other weapons as well as boxes of gunshots with the words "NATO BALL" carved on them.

8) The Lebanese army intelligence has seized a large quantity of wea Lutfallah II container pons hidden inside cars aboard an Italian ship at Tripoli port, north of Lebanon, Lebanese security sources told Al-Manar TV.

9) This comes just days after the Lebanese Army Marines confiscated Lutfallah II arms shipment off the Lebanese port of Batoun while it was carrying 300,000 pounds of weapons within three containers. Reports said the cargo ship, which was flying the flag of Sierra-Leone, had left Libya and was bound to Syria.

10) Lebanese terrorist Mohammad Hussein Fares confessed to participating in smuggling weapons, militants and journalists into Syria and committing terrorists acts against Syrians.

11) Fares said that they smuggled assault rifles, RPG rounds, sniper rifles, LAW missiles, machineguns and cases of ammo, delivering them to Amoun, with al-Jarban coming later to distribute them among terrorists.

12) US, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are arming AL-QAEDA Terrorists to commit Terrorism in Syria.

13) Over 30,000 various weapons have been channelled to Syria since unrest flared up there in April last year, Amin Khteit says. The overall amount of explosives makes up 300 tons. The deliveries were made by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They depend on the United States, which is making every effort to overpower Syria.

14) The authorities seized weapons smuggled from Turkey in Tal Abyad area on the Syrian-Turkish borders in Raqqa countryside.

15) A Turkish parliamentarian has stressed that Turkish ambulances are transporting weapons to terrorist groups in Syria, expressing their opposition to Ankara's policies on the Syrian case.

Stavridis visit Turkey for regional discussions

ANKARA: Navy Adm. James G. Stavridis, who holds the two highest strategic positions in NATO, discussed the “events transpiring in the Levant” during a two-day visit to Turkey this week, according to his official website.

The visit, which took place on Oct. 1 and 2, became public through an announcement by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) on its website on Oct. 2. Stavridis spent the first day of his visit in İzmir. On Oct. 2, he held separate meetings with Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Özel and Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz.

The Allied Air Command in İzmir came under scrutiny during the discussions. The command in İzmir was most recently on the public agenda during the debates over NATO’s early warning system in Kürecik, Malatya, which is a part of NATO’s missile defense shield. The Kürecik radar system was installed to observe Iranian skies for any missile threat.

Stavridis heads both the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) and is the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). The SACEUR is responsible to NATO’s highest military authority, the Military Committee, for the conduct of all NATO military operations.

NATO chief’s term extended one year

The NATO military alliance is extending the term in office of its current chief, allowing him to remain in office until the end of July 2014, the Associated Press reported.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, a former Danish prime minister, took office in 2009. Since then, he has overseen operations in Afghanistan and the air campaign over Libya. He will leave office shortly before the conclusion of NATO’s combat operations in Afghanistan, at the end of 2014.

“I am honored by the trust and support the allied governments have shown me,” Fogh Rasmussen said in a brief appearance yesterday.

Ambassadors from the 28 NATO countries made the decision to extend his term yesterday.

NATO chiefs are traditionally appointed for a four-year term with the possibility of a year’s extension.

There have been cases in which a NATO chief’s term has been extended for a few months beyond that, but in recent times secretaries-general have not been given full second terms.

Puppet Europe, with Greece, Spain, Portugal already ruined by US banksters, has to have a Mercan in charge of the NATO destruction team in Europe.

NATO wants to bomb Syria

guernica.bombed.nazis.jpg

'The first attack happened about 4:30 pm, which was a twin engined Dornier Do 17 that came from the South, dropping approximately twelve 50-kilogram bombs over the town. On its flight back to the base, Do 17 started bombing buildings, the three story headquarters of the Izquerda Republican and the church of San Juan. At about 6 pm, the third wave of attacks occurred. This time, it was a Heinkel He 111 escorted by five Italian Flats under the command of Corrado “Rocca” Ricci. The next two waves of attacks were made by German twin-engine planes. From 6:30 to 6:45 pm the three squadrons of the Condor Legion, total twenty, nine planes attacked Guernicca. Meanwhile Bf 109 B and the Heinkel He 515 started shooting the civilians on the road out of town.

The attacks created a firestorm, which destroyed and most other were damaged. Only the arms factories of unceta and Company and Tallers de Guernica and Assembly House and the Oak survived. It was eventually estimated that there were as many as 10,000 deaths overall. Most dead were elderly people, women, and children.

The Condor Legion was assigned aerial missions throughout Spain as the main contribution to Nazi Germany to Francisco Franco’s forces. The Motivation of this attack was to scare the civilians and to go against the Republican Government of Spain as total; the condor Legion dropped 66 tons of bombs, overall.

Breaking News Syria: Terrorists use NATO-weapons

Jul.6.2012.seized.weapons.jpg

Jul.6.2012.seized.weapons.1.jpg

July 6, 2012 - Syrian security authorities seized amounts of weapons and explosive devices in a terrorists' den in the city of Haffeh in Lattakia countryside.
An official source told a SANA reporter that the seized arms included Nato sniper rifles, machineguns, hunting rifles, explosive devices of various weights, devices for remote control detonation and an amount of batteries and electrical wires.

Yesterday, the Swiss Authorities announced that they are investigating into information published by Sonntags Zeitung newspaper about hand grenades used by armed terrorist groups in Syria.

War-maker NATO that has 24 military bases in Turkey and estabished in January a missile radar site in Turkey for the realization of its continent-wide missile interception system, continues to provoke Syria.
On July 7, it organizes so called 'anti-terrorism drills' in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The NATO Maritime Group currently consists of three frigates from Turkey, Germany and France. It comes as relations between Turkey and its neighbor Syria remain tense following a recent cross border incident.

Breaking News: NATO war game

NATOweaponsSYRIA.jpg

NATO that provides Syrian terrorists of weapons, provokes Syria now with a so called 'anti-terrorism' war game.

The  'anti-terrorism' war game will be heading from Istanbul further into the Mediterranean on July 7. The force currently consists of three frigates from Turkey, Germany and France.

NATO's German Rear Admiral Thorsten Kahler told the Turkish daily Hurriyet: 'We are here and providing security for NATO member states'.

The naval drills come as relations between Turkey and its neighbor Syria remain tense following a recent cross border incident. Syrian troops shot down a Turkish jet last month after it violated the country’s airspace.

On 22 June 2012, Turkish Prime Minister Erdoğan told a group of journalists that Syria had apologized for the downed Turkish warplane.
On 23 June 2012, Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul,admitted that the jet 'may have unintentionally violated Syrian airspace'. "The incident should not be regarded as a hostile action against Turkey in any case," Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Jihad Makdissi, told Turkey's A-Haber TV. "It was only the protection of our sovereignty. It is an incident, not an attack."

But the head of the NATO military alliance, Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, called it a "completely unacceptable act" that the alliance condemned "in the strongest terms" after a meeting with Turkish officials and ambassadors to the 28-nation North Atlantic Treaty Alliance.
It is on this way that NATO that, because military-strategic interests in the regio, abused the incident to escalate the tension between Syria and Turkey.

Meanwhile, the New York Times newspaper reported that 'US intelligence operatives in Turkey were vetting the flow of weapons to Syrian 'rebels'.
The Times cited unnamed US officials and Arab intelligence officials as saying the weapons were being paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar and taken across the Turkish border.
There are also NATO weapons in the hands of Syrian terrorists.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that NATO provocation (and further arming of Syrian terrorists), leads to further violence and ultimately a very big war”. “This is either an unscrupulous attempt to mislead serious people who shape foreign policy or simply a misunderstanding of what is going on,” he said.
The minister also said representatives of the Syrian opposition will visit Moscow next week.
On Wednesday, Moscow urged Syrian opposition groups to unite to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing crisis.
Russia and China have refused to support any plans for outside interference in Syria.

NATO has 24 military bases in Turkey.  In January it estabished a missile radar site in Turkey for the realization of its continent-wide missile interception system.
Turkey joined NATO in 1952 and serves as the organization' s eastern anchor, as it controls the straits leading from the Black Sea to the Aegean and also has borders with Syria and Iraq.

NATO was originally founded to provide a strategic counterbalance to the Soviet Union. Its founding purpose no longer exists, but NATO continues to circumvent the authority of the United Nations and to provoke independant nations.

Before the costly war against Libya, some newspapers reported: 'Nato's new headquarters in Brussels will cost its members €1billion (£841 million) at a time of deep cuts to British defence budgets and despite promises by the Alliance to cut its costs'.
Europe is in a deep financial crisis today but it continues to spend money on wars.

'NATO launches war games in Mediterranean amid tension with Syria'

July 5, 2012 - NATO’s joint maritime group is flexing its muscle in the eastern Mediterranean Sea by conducting anti-terrorism drills as tensions between NATO member Turkey and its neighbor Syria escalate.

The Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) is determined “to give a clear message to terrorists in the region that NATO is on duty,” German Rear Admiral Thorsten Kahler told the Turkish daily Hurriyet.

“What we have to make sure is to tell the terrorists to be careful; we are here and providing security for NATO member states,” he said.

The admiral said the group will be heading from Istanbul further into the Mediterranean on July 7. The force currently consists of three frigates from Turkey, Germany and France. The ships are armed with 76-mm and 27-mm guns, Mark 46 anti-submarine torpedoes, surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles and carry helicopters. They are manned by 545 sailors in total.

Kahler took over command of the group from his Turkish colleague Rear Admiral Sinan Azmi Tosun on June 15.

The naval drills come as relations between Turkey and its neighbor Syria remain tense following a recent cross border incident. Syrian troops shot down a Turkish jet last month after it violated the country’s airspace.

Damascus says their military acted in self-defense, but offered an apology for the incident and the subsequent death of the two Turkish pilots onboard.

Ankara said it was an act of aggression on Syria’s part, claiming that the plane crossed the border by incident and was shot down without warning after flying back into the international airspace.

Turkey called a NATO meeting to discuss the incident. The alliance condemned the incident, but refrained from taking any more serious action against Syria.

Syria and Turkey has increasingly been at odds recently over Ankara’s vocal criticism of the Syrian crackdown on its domestic opposition. Following the downing of the jet, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan pledged support to the Syrian opposition in their bid to topple the government.
