Latest News Syria: western hypocrisy

Save the Children is helping thousands of children like Sana and her sisters to access education, to learn how to communicate about their experiences and — vitally — to learn how to be children again. Photo credit: Jonathan Hyams / Save the Children

Along one side the West wants a puppet government in Syria and delivers constantly weapons to the terrorists and opposition fighting the Syrian government.

On the other hand, it makes publicity for its 'Global Poverty Project' by advertising mass vaccination campaigns simultaneously in Syria and other countries (Iraq, Pakistan,).

That's pure hypocrisy because polio is a result of a lack of hygienic conditions (water, food).

It is therefore that the Syrian Health Minister, Dr. Saad al-Nayef, has requested the International Concerned organizations to demand the economic embargo on Syria lifted as it targets the health, food and medicine of the Syrian children.

Let us wait and see if Western organizations and government leaders dare to be honest...

Syrians' right to self-determination

Foreign Ministry: Kerry's statements are violation of the Syrians' right to self-determination

Nov 4, 2013

Damascus, (SANA) - A Foreign and Expatriates Ministry source on Sunday dismissed US Secretary of State John Kerry's continued statements as aimed to abort Geneva conference and constituting a blatant interference in the Syrian Affairs.

The source stressed that Kerry's statements constitute violation of the Syrian people's right to self-determination.

"If the US was sincere about cooperating with the Russian Federation in sponsoring Geneva conference, then Kerry must grasp that the Syrian people alone have the right to choose their leadership and political future without any foreign interference," said the source.

It went on saying that "Kerry must realize that the success of Geneva conference depends on the will of the Syrian people themselves through agreement to work to halt violence and terrorism and achieve the political settlement that would lead to the broadest participation in drawing Syria's future."

Syria: ‘In Allah's name’

Abdul Razak Tlas, is the leader of the so called “Farouq brigade”.

Some times ago, he published a video  on Skype where he was masturbating and removing the clothes of his ‘girlfriend’ holding up rings he stole for her.

Another video that was released some weeks ago showed Firas Tlas, main Syrian financier of terrorism and a former member of the corrupt oligarchy, in a disgusting two-woman orgy. Manaf “the toy general” Tlas, is said to have made his very own pornographic movie to be published soon as well.

Photo: “Aboudy” as his girlfriend kept calling him, is none other than Abdul Razak Tlas, whose skype cyber sex video was so disgusting, he had to flee his own terrorist organisation to Turkey.

Syrian government's role as partner to UN

Oct 26, 2013

New York, (SANA) – Syria's Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari asserted that the Syrian government is an integral part of the humanitarian response plan signed with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), therefore no-one can deny the role of the Syrian government as a full partner for the UN in implementing the plan.

At a press conference of Friday at the UN headquarters in New York, al-Jaafari said that Syria has been following this plan for over two years in cooperation with the UN, so any talk about Syrian government's non-cooperation is completely incorrect and untrue.

He said that some sides say that the Syrian government or the Syrian army are blockading some areas, and this is true as far as blockading some areas that contain armed terrorists who fight the government and challenge its authority, employing civilians as human shields, noting that due to concern over the safety of international humanitarian workers, they can't always enter certain hotspots, citing what happened with aid convoys for the World Food Program (WFP) which admitted to failing to enter al-Muadamiya area eight times.

Al-Jaafari noted that the Syrian government evacuated 3,000 families from the aforementioned al-Muadamiya area ten days ago under the protection of the Syrian army, adding that the Syrian government opened and equipped more than 1,000 schools to house Syrian families.

"Can UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Valier Amos tell us what she did for the thousands of Syrian families that are now homeless and that fled their villages due to the criminal practices of armed groups there?" al-Jaafari asked.

He went on to assert that the Syrian government is doing the larger share of humanitarian work, something which Amos is well aware of, wondering why she attempts to deny this fact in her report to the Security Council.

Al-Jaafari said that Syria has related to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council members the effects of the punitive unilateral economic sanctions, yet Amos still insists that she is unaware of any UN report on the negative effects of these sanctions, asserting that her claims are untrue as there are two annual resolutions issued each year on this issue.

He stressed that the UN is fully aware of the negative effects of unilateral action and should be against such actions, saying that this means that Amos's political and humanitarian knowledge is lacking a very important aspect.

Al-Jaafari said that the sanctions against Syria are compulsory and punitive actions taken by a number of countries and that is unacceptable, noting that the UN General Assembly will be discussing the US embargo on Cuba which is rejected each year by a majority of 187, wondering if all the talk about rejecting unilateral action is "mere ink on paper."

Syria: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhael Bogdanov

Oct 26,2013

Moscow, (SANA) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhael Bogdanov, discussed with Grand Mufti of the Republic Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun in Moscow the developments in Syria and the region.

A source at the Russian Foreign Ministry said the two sides exchanged viewpoints on the latest developments in Syria and they noted that viewpoints were identical on the risks of attempts aimed at deepening the conflict through fueling confrontations on religious and ethnic bases.

The source added that the two sides stressed their rejection of such attempts and highlighted the importance of developing cultural, social and religious relations between the two countries.

Mufti Hassoun: Syria's return to forefront of international position serves peace

With its return to the forefront of international position, Syria will serve peace, and its victory will mark a victory for peace in the world, Grand Mufti of the Republic, Dr. Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun said.

Mufti Hassoun was speaking during a lecture he delivered at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations on Saturday, attended by Syria's ambassador to Russia, Riyad Haddad.

''Syria's enemies want the scheme played out in Iraq repeated in Syria,'' Hassoun said. ''But Syria won't succumb to this as it realizes the partition they caused in Lebanon twenty years ago. At that time, Syria feared that partition, that's why it went to Lebanon to preserve it as an undivided state.''

E-mail of French leaders tapped by the American intelligence services

NSA Spied on Mexican Government and French Political, Business Networks

October 23, 2013

The National Security Agency (NSA) has been caught spying on foreign leaders and ordinary citizens in France and Mexico, resulting in at least one U.S. ambassador getting an earful from French officials.

The French government summoned American Ambassador Charles Rivkin on Monday to demand an explanation for why the NSA had collected phone and Internet data of French citizens.

The French newspaper Le Monde reported that the U.S. spy agency had been intercepting French phone calls on “a massive scale.”

Using information disclosed by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, Le Monde said that more than 70 million French phone calls were recorded in just one 30-day period late last year.

The communications gathering, which included text messages, involved not only those with suspected terrorist links, but also people in business, politics and the French administration.

French officials called the spying “totally unacceptable” and demanded that it cease, according to The New York Times. (In July, Le Monde reported that the French government operates its own massive surveillance program that intercepts French citizens’ phone and Internet activity.)

The NSA also was caught hacking into emails belonging to Mexico’s former president, Felipe Calderón.

In May 2010, the agency “successfully exploited a key mail server in the Mexican Presidencia domain within the Mexican Presidential network to gain first-ever access to President Felipe Calderon’s public email account,” according to an NSA document classified as “top secret,” the German newspaper Der Spiegel reported.

NSA documents obtained by Der Spiegel showed the email domain was also used by cabinet members, and contained “diplomatic, economic and leadership communications which continue to provide insight into Mexico’s political system and internal stability.” The agency described the president’s office as “a lucrative source” of information.

The NSA—which labeled the operation “Flatliquid”—hacked into the email account using an internal division called Tailored Access Operations (TAO), which the agency uses for difficult missions involving special targets, according to the documents.

Dilma Rousseff's e-mail tapped by the American intelligence services

The NSA Has Hacked Mexican and Brazilian Government Email For Years

Beginning in May 2010, the NSA gained access to the Mexican Presidencia domain on the Mexican Presidential network and began monitoring then-president Felipe Calderon's email account, according to a document leaked to Der Spiegel by Edward Snowden. The document also shows that the NSA has been surveilling the Brazilian government.

Hacking the Mexican presidential email was part of a campaign called "Flatliquid," which provided U.S. cabinet members with "diplomatic, economic and leadership communications which continue to provide insight into Mexico's political system and internal stability," according to the document obtained by Spiegel.

This revelation about NSA hacking may, not surprisingly, lead to increased tension between the U.S. and Mexico. Relations were already strained by a report aired on Brazil's TV Globo network indicating that the NSA had done surveillance in the summer of 2012 on Mexico's current president, Enrique Peña Nieto, who was running for president at the time.

Informations about the NSA's surveillance in Brazil has also been surfacing in recent months, causing Brazil's president, Dilma Rousseff, to cancel a Washington D.C. visit a few weeks ago and deliver an extremely critical speech about NSA espionage at the UN General Assembly. Spiegel reports that Rousseff had previously cited economic motivations as a potential reason for NSA surveillance, but NSA director General Keith Alexander denied this. Passages in the newly analyzed document do indicate, though, that the NSA was targeting email and telephone data from the oil company Petrobras which is majority owned by the Brazilian government.

The new documents also contain indications of the scope and intensity of NSA spying on neighboring countries, including mention of an initiative in Mexico called "Whitetamale" that took place in August 2009. During this effort, the NSA hacked Mexico's Public Security Secretariat to gain information about Mexican drug cartels and "diplomatic talking-points." 260 classified reports came out of Whitetamale that influenced diplomacy and international investments. Spiegel quotes from the document: "These TAO accesses into several Mexican government agencies are just the beginning — we intend to go much further against this important target." And apparently they did.

Felipe Calderon’s e-mail tapped by the American intelligence services

NSA Hacked Calderon’s E-Mail Account, Spiegel Reports

The U.S. National Security Agency hacked the e-mail account of Mexico’s then-President Felipe Calderon in 2010, Germany’s Spiegel reported today, citing documents from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

In the operation, called “Flatliquid,” the NSA used a server to gain access to Calderon’s account and the Mexican presidential domain used by cabinet members for diplomatic and economic communications, according to the report.

The U.S. gathers foreign intelligence of the type gathered by all nations, the NSA said in a statement today, declining to comment on the specific case reported by Spiegel. The U.S. is reviewing the way it gathers intelligence to balance concern for the security of American citizens against privacy concerns, the agency said.

The office of President Enrique Pena Nieto, who became president in December after defeating the candidate from Calderon’s National Action Party, or PAN, declined to comment. At a press conference in Mexico City called to talk about the nation’s tax overhaul, PAN Senate coordinator Jorge Luis Preciado called the alleged U.S. spying unfortunate and unethical.

Allegations last month based on documents from Snowden that the U.S. had spied on Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff sparked outrage in Latin America’s biggest economy and led her to call off a state visit to the Washington.

The Brazilian television news magazine Fantastico, which first reported the allegations of U.S. espionage against Brazil, also said at the time that the U.S. had accessed text messages sent last year by Pena Nieto, who was then a candidate and front-runner in the Mexican election campaign, discussing potential cabinet picks. Mexico’s government in response summoned the U.S. ambassador in Mexico City, Anthony Wayne, for consultations, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement in which it also condemned spying against Mexican citizens.

Syria: Damascus Demands War Reparations

Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Qadri Jamil

October 22, 2013

Damascus Demands War Reparations: “Countries Which Ruined Syria Must Compensate”: Syrian Deputy PM

Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Qadri Jamil says countries that have participated in Syria’s crisis must compensate for the destruction they have brought to the Arab country.“We must not forget that Syria is a country rich in resources. Clearly, however, after all this destruction, its own resources are insufficient for reconstruction. Thus, one must mobilize private funds and additional resources, including form of compensation. It is natural that countries that have destroyed Syria must compensate,” Jamil said in an interview with the Russian TV channel Russia Today (RT) on Monday. The Syrian deputy prime minister pointed the finger at Turkey, accusing the country of looting Syria’s industrial hub, Aleppo.

He further noted that corrupt figures who subsequently became representatives of foreign-backed opposition groups will also have to pay for post-conflict reconstruction.

Jamil said that the issue of compensation by the states, which have played a role in the destruction of the Middle Eastern country, will be one of the priority themes at the upcoming Geneva II conference.

Latest News Syria: European liberals supporting terrorists

Press Release of the European liberals

11/9/2013

On the situation in Syria, ALDE President Guy Verhofstadt said today the efforts to put chemical weapons under international control is commendable but what is needed is an end to bloodshed and the criminal regime of Al Assad. Assad is using delaying tactics by accepting to put chemical weapons under international control and said "Carrots need sticks, Assad will only react to a credible threat of force".

Guy Verhofstadt continued "I  am very sceptical about the proposal on the table to take chemical weapons out of the equation.   It is a delaying tactic by Al Assad who is merely buying time to recover strength.  His regime has massacred over 100,000 people using conventional weapons yet we only take steps to act when he crosses a red line on 21 August and starts killing using chemical weapons.   This is immoral, hypocritical and irresponsible of the international community."

He continued "What we are effectively saying to Assad is that - put chemical weapons under international control then you can get back to massacring your people using conventional methods.  We have a historic responsibility to stop the continued suffering of the Syrian people."

He concluded "If Assad is allowed to continue to use his airplanes, airports and helicopters to massacre his people the only effective credible deterrent is a comprehensive military strategy which includes a no fly zone"

Verhofstadt, a spokesman for the Belgian-European arms and oil industry

Verhofstadt became president of the Flemish Liberal Student’s Union (1972–1974) while studying law at the University of Ghent. He quickly became the secretary of Willy De Clercq, who was at that time the president of the Flemish liberal party (Party for ‘Freedom and Progress, PVV). In 1982, at age 29, he became president of the party. In 1985 Verhofstadt was elected into the Chamber of Deputies, and became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Budget under Prime Minister Wilfried Martens. Because of his economic views and his young age, he became known as “Baby Thatcher“. Another nickname from that era is “da joenk“, a Brabantian dialect expression meaning “that kid” (in a pejorative sense, referring to his rather iconoclastic and immature style). In 2004, Verhofstadt was suggested as a candidate to replace Romano Prodi as the next President of the European Commission.

In the 2009 European Parliament election, he was elected a member of the European Parliament for the term 2009–2014. He also has been put forward as the possible candidate for replacing José Manuel Barroso as the president of the European Commission by a coalition of greens, socialists and liberals.
On July 1, 2009 he was elected President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe group in the European Parliament.
Verhofstadt is also a member of the Club de Madrid, an organization of more than 80 former statesmen. The group works to promote ‘democratic governance and leadership worldwide’.

Since 2012 is Verhofstadt a Board Member of the Brussels-based, Brussels-quoted Sofina holding (petroleum gas and oil platforms). He can look forward to a fee which is in line with that of the other directors, who last year received an amount between 42.000 134.000 euros. The Belgian industrialist Viscount Etienne Davignon is Honorary Director of Sofina.

Current directorships and offices held by Davignon: Chairman of Compagnie Maritime Belge, Compagnie des Wagons-Lits, Recticel, Sibeka, SN Airholding and Palais des Beaux-Arts (Belgium), Vice-Chairman of SUEZ-TRACTEBEL (Belgium), Director of Accor (France), Cumerio, Real Software, SN Brussels Airlines (Belgium), and Gilead (United States).
He is Chairman of the Bilderberg Group and of CSR Europe.
According to the Suez website, Davignon holds 11,111 Suez shares, which are currently worth more than 350,000 euro.

Verhofstadt pleads actually for supply of heavy weapons to the so called ‘Free Syrian Army’. It is part of Verhofstadt’s idea of a Greater Europe with its own army. On 20 February 2009 the European Parliament voted in favour of the creation of Synchronised Armed Forces Europe (SAFE) as a first step towards a true European military force. SAFE will be directed by an EU directorate, with its own training standards and operational doctrine. There are also plans to create an EU “Council of Defence Ministers” and “a European statute for soldiers within the framework of Safe governing training standards, operational doctrine and freedom of operational action”.

Mass censorship over Syria: Facebook

Obama.Zuckerberg.jpg

Sep 8, 2013

Apparently, it’s somehow against Facebook’s policy to speak out against illegal wars of aggression.

Anti-Media, who helps plan “No War With Syria” rallies, and contains posts that speak out against the United States’ proposed military operations in Syria, is now being censored.

Two reports from users confirming problems with both commenting and even “liking” anything on the page were reported to the page’s administrator, Nick Bernabe. Evidence was also presented showing that posts mentioning Syria were “restricted in their reach”, meaning the posts weren’t showing up on any of the fans’ news feeds.

Russia says US proof of chemical attack in Syria 'unconvincing' as international opposition to US strike mounts

Sep 2, 2013

Capitals, (SANA) –Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support to the Russian Parliament's initiative to send a parliamentary delegation to discuss the crisis in Syria with the U.S. Congress.

"There is no better way than direct dialogue and presenting attitudes publicly," Russian Itar Tass news agency quoted Putin as saying on Monday.

Chairman of the Russian Duma Council, Sergei Naryshkin, and President of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, asked President Putin to use parliamentary ties between Russia and the US to encourage dialogue with Washington on Syria.

Lavrov: Military strike against Syria will delay international conference, hinder resolving crisis

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that directing a military strike against Syria will delay holding an international conference on the crisis in Syria and hinder its resolution.

In a joint press conference with South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Lavrov said that if the operation announced by the US President, then the international conference will be delayed for a very long time if not forever.

He said that the political solution will prevail in the end, but the more we forestall it and the more those who influence the opposition delay, they will find that they will be unable to coerce the opposition to participate in the conference, and there will be more civilian victims.

Lavrov hoped that the proponents of the military solution for the crisis in Syria will take into consideration the answers provided by experts on the baseless allegations of the Syrian government's use of chemical weapons in Syria.

He pointed out that the agenda of the upcoming G20 summit in St. Petersburg doesn't include discussing the Syrian issue, but any participating president can pose any issue, and Russia is prepared to discuss the crisis in Syria during the summit.

Lavrov stressed that Moscow is committed to the agreements reached during the G8 summit, and that it affirmed that the use of chemical weapons in Syria by any side is unacceptable, but all information on its used must be investigated and the results must be submitted to the Security Council, noting that despite recent statements, Washington hasn't abandoned the international conference on Syria.

He warned that any attempt to legitimize the violation of international law will lead to chaos and destroy international legitimacy, saying that if some people think that chaos would eb better than international law, the Security Council and the UN, then Russia cannot agree with this at all, asserting that Russia will do its best to defend international law, the UN charter and the Security Council's role.

Lavrov said that the situation in Syria in the Middle East affects Russia's interests directly, and that the negative effects of the growing international terrorism has been felt for a long time, asserting that the situation in Syria affects other countries' national security, adding that terrorists have increased their activities recently and have become very comfortable.

He stressed that the common priority in national security must be preserving citizens' lives, taking precedence over procuring oil and gas.

Lavrov: US evidence on Syria's alleged use of chemical weapon intangible, unconvincing

Earlier, Lavrov Lavrov stressed that the evidence presented by the US to Russia on the Syrian authorities' alleged use of chemical weapon "are intangible and did not convince the Russian side."

Lecturing at the International Relations University affiliated to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday, Lavrov said "Yes, they presented some things but they do not contain any tangible things and do not contain geographical coordinates and names and there is no evidence that the samples were taken by professional specialists."

He added that what our US, British and French partners have previously and recently offered for us absolutely didn't convince us as there are no facts but a mere talk about what we surely know and if you asked them about a detailed evidence they say that it is characterized by secrecy, asserting that it means that there are no such facts.

He said that the foreign players are applying double standard policy regarding the events in the Middle East and North Africa.

He reiterated that Russia and China agree on the need of solving the crisis in Syria through dialogue.

The Russian Minister expressed doubts over the possibility of convincing the Syrian opposition to participate in the upcoming international conference on Syria if a strike was directed against Syria.

Lavrov described the statements of his US counterpart, John Kerry, as "odd" regarding what Washington said that it had offered "irrefutable evidence" to Moscow on the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

He pointed out that Russia seeks to hold a conference for the establishment of zones free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, asserting that Syria was one of the countries which called for the establishment of a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.

Russian Foreign Ministry: Western attempts to justify potential strike against Syria 'rejected'

The Russian Foreign Ministry's envoy for human rights, Konstantin Dolgov, criticized as 'flawed' the US attempts to justify a potential aggression on Syria to ''protect civilians''.

''This kind of argument is flawed by all accounts,'' Dolgov said on his Twitter page on Monday, citing previous interventions in in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya proved in the past, which proved invalid.

Dolgov said that the best way to safeguard human rights is through a political settlement process based on negotiations and dialogue.

''We can see this kind of 'protection' in Afghanistan where the warplanes are snuffing out hundreds of lives, which they dub as collateral damage,'' he pointed out.

China emphasizes importance of respecting UN Charter in any military action against Syria

China affirmed that any measure about Syria must respect the UN Charter and the principal rules of international relations, expressing grave concerns over US threats of taking a unilateral military action against the country.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hong Lei, was quoted as saying that China is gravely concerned about a possible unilateral military action against Syria. ''Any measure should avoid causing more complications to the Syrian issue and more catastrophes in the Middle East," he pointed out.

There should be no rushing to prejudge the results of the UN investigation into an alleged chemical weapons use in Syria, Hong pointed out, calling on the UN to conduct an independent and professional probe into CW use allegations.

UN, Iran stress need to political solution to crisis in Syria

Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, expressed rejection of any military intervention in Syria, asserting the necessity of finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

In a phone call with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Monday, Zarif expressed his country's readiness to reach a peaceful solution to get out of the crisis in Syria.

He condemned the use of chemical weapons.

For his part, Ki-Moon reiterated the need for finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Iran denies as "distorted" statements attributed to Rafsanjani on using chemical weapons in Syria

Iranian Foreign Ministry refuted as " distorted" the statements attributed to head of the Expediency Council Hashemi Rafsanjani about the use of Chemical weapon in Syria.

"Rafsanjani's statements have been distorted and the issue has been rejected by his office as well,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said in a statement on Monday quoted by ISNA News Agency.

Afkham said that the head of the Expediency Council has always described Syria as a ‘firm stronghold’ to confront Zionist regime which is seeking strike on Syria under the pretext of using chemical weapons.

Earlier, some tendentious mass media, as part of their campaigns which rely on disinformation and fabrication, quoted statements attributed to Rafsanjani in which he said that the Syrian government has launched chemical attacks against the population.

The statements were issued the Iranian Labour News Agency.

Venezuela rejects military strike against Syria

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called upon US counterpart Barack Obama to resort to peace and not take any military action against Syria

In a letter sent to Obama, Maduro affirmed that his country joins the forces which oppose any military attack by the US against Syria.

On a relevant note, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua Milano and Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif affirmed during a phone call their opposition to the use of force and waging war in Syria instead of resorting to political methods and dialogue.

Cuba denounces any US attack on Syria, calls for protests to prevent it

The Cuban Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning any military action the US may take against Syria, saying that such an action violates international law and the UN charter, will cause further bloodshed and destruction, and escalate the crisis in Syria.

Cuba called upon the Security Council to prevent any such violation, demanding that the UN General Assembly convene urgently to prevent any aggression against Syria.

The statement hoped that the US Congress will follow the example of the British House of Commons, calling on opinion leaders in the US to be reasonable and refrain from launching illegal attacks against other countries.

Cuba also called upon religious, youth, student, labor, artistic and intellectual activities and all those who reject war in Syria to organize protests to stop this war, stressing the need to respect Syria's sovereignty, independence and safety and Syrians' right to self determination, affirming the need for supporting a peaceful solution through dialogue without further violence.

South Africa stresses role of UN in solving crisis in Syria

President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, criticized the US threats to launch a military aggression on Syria, adding that the UN is the sole side authorized to intervene militarily in any country in case all other means have been exhausted.

In a speech before the 59th session of the Commonwealth parliamentary conference, Zuma said "we believe that the UN Security Council cannot be misused to carry out agendas for other country, referring to the US threats to launch a military aggression on Syria.

He stressed that the UN is the only side authorized to military interfere in any country.

Iraq reiterates support to political solution to crisis in Syria

Iraqi Foreign Ministry reiterated Iraq's stance in supporting the political solution to the crisis in Syria through the international conference due to be held in Geneva.

In a statement released on Monday, the Ministry stressed that the Iraqi delegation to the ministerial meeting of the Arab league had reservation and opposed many parts of the resolution draft on Syria, particularly the ones regarding the foreign intervention.

Baghdad reiterated Iraq's stance in support of the will of the Syrian people and calling for a political solution to the crisis in the country.

Earlier on Sunday, Iraqi representative to the Arab League, Qais al-Azzawi, stressed his country's rejection of any military aggression on Syria.

He stressed that "It is wrong for the Arabs to give a green light to a military strike on Syria. Iraq will never allow using its soil to launch a strike on any Arab country."

Top U.S. Military Commander Presents Syrian War Options

In letter to Congress, Dempsey outlines Syria options
By Chris Carroll

WASHINGTON: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey has laid out in a letter to Congress the range of options he said the U.S. military is prepared to carry out in Syria if given the go-ahead by civilian leaders.

In his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services committee last Thursday, Dempsey, who was nominated to his second term as the nation’s top military leader, declined to testify on the options and advice he had given to President Barack Obama on Syria.

That led a frustrated Sen. John McCain, ranking Republican member on the committee and an advocate of greater U.S. support of the Syrian opposition, to threaten a hold on Dempsey’s nomination. McCain and committee chairman Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., last week sent Dempsey a letter again asking for his views on Syria, as well as a range of other topics, including prospects for U.S. success in Afghanistan.

Dempsey outlined five options for U.S. military action in the Syrian conflict:

* The least involved – a train, advise and assist mission – would require no U.S. troops to be directly involved with fighting as they delivered supplies and training to opposition fighters, Dempsey said.

* A second option, limited stand-off strikes, would target “high-value regime air defense, air, ground, missile, and naval forces as well as the supporting military facilities and command nodes,” with strikes launched from beyond Syrian borders. “Depending on duration, the costs would be in the billions,” Dempsey wrote.

* A third option, establishing a no-fly zone, would go further, taking out Syrian air-defenses to control the skies throughout the country. Because U.S. aircraft would be required to fly over Syrian airspace, the risk to U.S. troops would be higher, Dempsey said.

* The U.S. military could also establish buffer zones to protect Turkey’s or Jordan’s borders, or to protect Syrian civilians, Dempsey wrote. Doing would require partial no-fly zones and carry many of the same risks and costs.

* The fifth and most complex option Dempsey outlined, controlling chemical weapons, would require a no-fly zone, air and missile strikes, and thousands of troops on the ground.

Dempsey’s response, released on Monday, focused on Syria, stressing that the decision on military action is not his to make.

“The decision over whether to introduce military force is a political one that our Nation entrusts to its civilian leaders,” he wrote. “I also understand that you deserve my best military advice on how military force could be used in order to decide whether it should be used. “

And, Dempsey warned, the U.S. should be prepared to deal with the aftermath of any military action.

“Once we take action, we should be prepared for what comes next,” he said. “Deeper involvement is hard to avoid.”

June 30, 2013

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to discuss regional issues, including the Syrian crisis, with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin when he travels to Moscow on Monday.

Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday that the negotiations between Ahmadinejad and Putin will also focus on the ongoing developments in Central Asia and Caucasus as well as the Caspian Sea.

Araqchi noted that Iran and Russia have persistently held “constructive” talks in different domains.

Araqchi also expressed hope that the Iranian president’s upcoming visit to Russia will further deepen Tehran-Moscow relations.

President Ahmadinejad will head to Russia at the head of a high-ranking delegation to attend the second summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) on July 1. The two-day summit will kick off on the same day in the Grand Kremlin Palace and will be chaired by the Russian president.

On June 24, Kremlin’s top foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, said the first day of the summit will be devoted to leaders’ meeting and bilateral discussions are planned to be held among experts from the member states on the second day of the event.

The first GECF summit was held in the Qatari capital, Doha, in 2011, bringing together 12 permanent members and three observer countries. The Islamic Republic is to host the third summit of the organization, according to Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum is an intergovernmental organization comprising Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.

The GECF was founded in 2001 in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and its members control over 70 percent of the world's natural gas reserves, 38 percent of the pipeline trade, and 85 percent of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) production.

The three largest reserve-holders in the GECF - Russia, Iran and Qatar - together hold about 57 percent of global gas reserves.
