Syria: Hillary Clinton concerned about 'Russia’s growing influence'...

"There is a move to re-Sovietise the region"...

As reported by the Financial Times, on Thursday, hours before meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a news conference that the US is to prevent Russia from integrating more closely with its neighbors in Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

"There is a move to re-Sovietise the region," said the US Secretary of State. "It’s not going to be called that. It’s going to be called a customs union, it will be called Eurasian Union and all of that. But let's make no mistake about it. We know what the goal is and we are trying to figure out effective ways to slow down or prevent it."

On October 6, 2012, the Spanish government has agreed to participate in NATO's anti-missile shield that will see specialized United States warships based at a Spanish base already used by the U.S. Navy.

Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria said Spain and the U.S. had sealed the deal Friday to use the base in southwestern Spain as part of the shield, enabling four U.S. Navy destroyers and some 1,400 operators to be deployed at the base.
Moscow has long opposed the shield and called for binding guarantees from the U.S. and NATO that it will not target Russia.
The Pentagon also has units at Moron air base in southwest Spain, with a presence of some 4,250 military personnel and 1,000 civilians in the country.

Syrian News Agency Sana no longer exists for Google

Barack Obama speaking at Google HQ in 2007.jpg

Google is actually censoring the news of the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA.

That's not coming as a complete surprise.

On 3.14.2012, America's Defense Department’s best-known geek announced that she was leaving the Pentagon for a job at Google. Google is actually censoring the news of the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA.

Google censorship comes just at the moment that France and Britain have recognized the so called 'opposition' as the 'legal representative of the Syrian people'.
At the same time, Western press comes with the story that the 'Syrian rebels take an airbase in slow progress toward Damascus'.

NATO and its puppets of the western press, used the same scenario in the bombing and occupation of Libya.
So it is very clear that the censorship and misleading information are part of the western military 'offensive' and the terrorist bombs attacks of the small American-British mercenary army which were 'in the strongest terms condemned' by US Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Syria has previously seen large outages in July and August this year, each lasting less than an hour and only affecting targeted areas.

During the uprising in Egypt, four major internet service providers were cut off in the country during mass protests against the (American backed) then-President Hosni Mubarak. Egyptians quickly found ways around the blocks.

In Libya, internet blackouts were common in areas that were at the time still controlled by Colonel Gaddafi.

Some time ago, Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian armed groups and terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. Weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

November 29, 2012

DAMASCUS COUNTRYSIDE, (SANA) - Terrorists on Wednesday blew up two car bombs loaded with large amounts of explosives in the Main Square in Jaramana city in Damascus Countryside, killing a number of citizens and injuring others and causing huge material damage to the residential buildings and shops.

A source at the Interior Ministry told SANA reporter that the death toll of the two car bomb blasts reached 34 martyrs and remnants in 10 medical covers.

The source added that the bombings also resulted in injuring 83 people and caused heavy damage to 6 residential buildings and tens of cars parking in the explosion site.

Meanwhile, a source at al-Muwasat Hospital that the bodies of 33 martyrs were received, in addition to 20 injured people, including women, some in critical situation.

A source at Damascus Hospital pointed out that 41 injured people, including women, were admitted to the hospital to be treated.

SANA reporter in al-Radi and Jaramana hospitals said tens of wounded people were received and given first aid, while serious injuries were transferred to al-Muwasat and Damascus hospitals.

SANA reporter said the two terrorist bombings coincided with the detonation of two explosive devices by terrorists in al-Nahda and al-Qerayyat neighborhoods in the city.

The explosive device blasts resulted in minor material damage.

Visiting the injured in al-Muwasat Hospital, Minister of Higher Education, Mohammad Yehya Moalla, stressed that the timing of the terrorist bombings was intended to cause harm to the largest number of citizens, describing them as "heinous and inhuman".

He indicated the readiness of all educational hospitals, particularly al-Muwasat, to receive all citizens and provide them with necessary medical services, hailing the efforts of its nursing, medical and administrative staffs in shouldering their responsibilities to ensure the best healthcare services.

On the other hand, Governor of Damascus Countryside, Hussein Makhlouf, described Jaramana terrorist bombings as "the most horrible crimes" against innocent citizens while they were heading to their workplaces, schools and universities.

He added that those who are behind the bombings made use of the Syrian's good will who rushed to help the injured to carry out the second bombing and cause more victims.

Touring Jaramana and al-Muwasat hospitals, Makhlouf said that targeting Jaramana by the armed terrorist groups for many times reflect these terrorist groups' hatred and grudge on its residents who rejected extremism and the involvement on the conspiracy against their country.

War with Syria: CIA-sponsored undercover operation

Operation 40.CIA-sponsored undercover operation.jpg

Operation 40 was a CIA-sponsored undercover operation in the early 1960s, which was active in the Caribbean (including Cuba), Central America, and Mexico. Created by US President Eisenhower in March 1960 after the 1959 Cuban Revolution and presided by vice-president Richard M. Nixon, it included people such as Frank Sturgis (who would later become one of the Watergate burglar), Felix Rodriguez (a CIA agent who later hunted down Che Guevara), Luis Posada Carriles (now held in the US under illegal immigration charges, he is demanded by Venezuela for his key role in the execution of the 1976 Cubana Flight 455 bombing), Orlando Bosch (founder of the CORU counter-revolutionary organization, which organized Chilean former minister Orlando Letelier's murder in 1976), Rafael 'Chi Chi' Quintero, Virgilio Paz Romero, Pedro Luis Diaz Lanz, Bernard Barker, etc. Members took part in the April 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion directed against Fidel Castro's regime.

Nato: talking about 'humanitarian' interventions and doing business

NATO.buildings.jpg

The retired general of the United States Army Wesley Clark always had good contacts with the Kosovo “government” and its “prime minister” – the former militant Hashim Thaci. There is even a street in Pristina named after Wesley Clark.

"It is clear that during their 'cooperation' that started in 1998, they concluded business agreements. Now it is absolutely clear that the bombings of Kosovo pursued both political and economic objectives: they were aimed not only at separating Kosovo from Serbia, but also at depriving Kosovo of its extensive natural resources..."

"Kosovo created a precedent. It was the first link in the strategy of the 'humanitarian' interventions of the NATO countries led by the USA...To be more exact, the possibility of interference in other regions of the world under this or that pretext became possible."

Coal mining is very good but oil still has a good price. So everything continued, following the former format: Iraq, Somalia, and Libya.

U.S. backed terrorist bombings

Lebanon.bombed.2.jpg

Some months ago, Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists and C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and 'medical' working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

On October 4, 2012, Adm. George Stavridis, the commander of US European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in Ankara. The meeting took place at General Staff headquarters but was only announced to the public in a statement released by the General Staff some days later. The talks were closed to the press and the statement did not elaborate on what Stavridis and Ozel discussed. It proved once again that the Turkish government which is not supported by the Turkish population, is not only arming Syrian terrorists but organizes with its NATO allies (and with Israel in the background) also a real war against Syria.

Photo: Lebanon, bombed by Israeli forces. The New York Times reported that the Bush administration was rushing a shipment of bombs to Israel so it could continue its air assault against Lebanon: 'The Bush administration is rushing a delivery of precision-guided bombs to Israel, which requested the expedited shipment last week after beginning its air campaign against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, American officials said Friday.'  Three days later, Forbes reported that the Bush administration was also rushing humanitarian aid to Lebanon: 'President Bush has ordered helicopters and ships to Lebanon to provide humanitarian aid, but he still opposes an immediate cease-fire that could give relief from a 13-day-old Israeli bombing campaign. At the order of the president, humanitarian supplies will start arriving in Lebanon tomorrow by helicopter and by ship,” White House press secretary Tony Snow announced at the White House. “We are working with Israel and Lebanon to open up humanitarian corridors.”

Germans Protest Upcoming Visit of Turkish Premier over His Government's Human Rights Violation

Oct 31, 2012

BERLIN/ANKARA, (SANA) – Huge crowds gathered in front of Brandenburg Gate in the German Capital of Berlin to protest against the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Germany.

The protesters raised banners that criticize Erdogan's policies which violate human rights.

Earlier in the week, the Turkish security forces suppressed tens of thousands of Turks who joined massive popular protests against the attempts of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government to ban the celebration of the 89th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic.

The Turkish police clashed with Kurdish protesters on Tuesday near a prison in the city of Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey, where inmates are continuing their hunger strike for the 48th day in a row.

The Turkish Anadolu news agency said several thousand people joined the protest marching towards the prison and the police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protesters who reacted by throwing stones at the police personnel.

Shops were closed and the locals did not send their children to school in line with calls for a boycott.

The Anadolu agency also reported clashes in the city of Istanbul without reports on casualties. A protest also took place in Adana and most of shops closed in Van region.

Hundreds of Kurdish prisoners in dozens of Turkish jails have been on a hunger strike since September demanding increased rights for Kurds and improved conditions for the Kurdish detainees.

Council of the Turkish Peace and Democracy Party discussed the hunger strike issue and decided on many steps and activities in this regard, including declaring October 30 as a 'Resistance Day'.

The Council also decided sending messages to the Kurdish parties and human rights organizations in Europe and the UN and its bodies as well as heads of the European countries, the Turkish embassies, the U.S. Congress members and media channels to urge them to assume responsibility towards the prisoners who are on a hunger strike.

The Council said all organizations of the Peace and Democracy Party in all areas will lay black wreathes in front of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) centers in Turkey and will set up tents and organize oratorical events in solidarity with the hunger strikers.

For its part, the opposition Republican People's Party called on the Turkish public to be on the lookout towards the policy of the ruling AKP party which is trying to hold sway over the judiciary and the higher courts in the country.

------

From history: Germany - Turkey

Turkey was favoured as a potential ally by Hitler because of its important strategic location on the boundaries of Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as its extensive history as a state hostile against the Russian Empire as well as the later Soviet Union.
To assure that Germany wanted to work with them on a long-range basis, the Turks were guaranteed an equal status in the German-dominated order, and were promised a number of territories which they might desire for reasons of security. These encompassed Edirne (Adrianople) and a rectification of Turkish frontiers at the expense of Greece, the creation of buffer states in the Caucasus under Turkish influence, a rectification of the Turkish-Syrian frontier (the Baghdad Railway and the State of Aleppo) and the Turkish-Iraq frontier (the Mosul region), as well as a settlement of "the Aegean question" to provide Turkey with suitable protection against encroachments from Italy. The Black Sea (which Hitler derided as "a mere frog-pond")was also to be conceded to Turkey as part of its sphere of influence, for this would ne:gate the need of stationing a German navy in the region to replace the Soviet Black Sea Fleet.

In November 2005, an agreement was signed for the sale of 298 German Army Leopard 2A4 tanks to Turkey. Turkey’s tank fleet is currently made up of American M-48s and M-60s, some of which have been modernized with Israeli cooperation into M-60 Sabra tanks, plus a large contingent of German Leopard 1s and Leopard 2s. That is hardy surprising. America and Germany are Turkey’s 2 most important geopolitical relationships, and this is reflected in Turkey’s choice of defense industry partners. The country’s industrial offset requirements ensure that these manufacturers have a long history of local partnerships to draw upon.

'Iraq urges end to Turkey PKK attacks'

Iraq has called for an end to the presence of Turkish military forces on its land, demanding that Turkey stop its attacks on members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

“The cabinet decided to reject the presence of any foreign bases or forces on Iraqi land and to reject the entry of any foreign military forces into Iraqi land,” said Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Dabbagh reiterated that the Turkish military action against the PKK members on Iraqi land “contradicts the principles of good neighborly relations.”

The Iraqi cabinet “recommends that parliament cancel or not extend any treaty signed in the past with any foreign state that allows the presence of foreign forces and military bases on Iraqi land or the entry of these forces,” the Iraqi government spokesman stated.

The remarks were made in response to a request by the Turkish government on Monday from its parliament to renew a mandate, expiring on October 17, that allows Turkish military strikes against the PKK in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq.

The treaty in question was signed by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in 1995, allowing Turkish forces to have presence in the northern regions of Iraq to target the Kurdish group.

The military presence of Turkish forces and their crossing into Iraq “is a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and security,” Dabbagh added.

Some analysts believe that Baghdad’s decision may be a reaction to Turkey’s refusal to extradite fugitive Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, who has been sentenced to death in absentia by an Iraqi court for running terror squads in Iraq.

Over the past months, Turkish military forces and the PKK have been involved in one of their heaviest clashes since the beginning of the Kurdish group’s armed opposition against Ankara.

In July, Baghdad warned Ankara against the “violation” of its territory and airspace by Turkish fighter jets and called on its foreign ministry to file a complaint with the UN Security Council over the issue.

'US envoy reveals secret assistance offer to Turkey in PKK fight'

The US ambassador to Turkey has revealed that Washington secretly offered Ankara to have an “anti-bin Laden” type of joint operation against a number of military leaders of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)...

On Tuesday, Francis Ricciardone revealed to Turkish journalists that the US had offered Turkey its military technology to hunt down the PKK leaders.

However, the Turkish government turned down the offer, saying it would continue battling with the PKK “on the basis of its laws and experiences.”

The PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region inside Turkey since the 1980s.

Ankara has carried out several military operations against the PKK in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan also confirmed on October 16 that he had rejected the offer on a rather technical basis.

Erdogan recalled the US operation near the Pakistani capital Islamabad in May 2011 that led to the death of Osama bin Laden.

“Bin Laden was caught in a house,” said the Turkish premier, adding, “But the struggle here is in mountainous geography.”

This is reportedly the second disclosed secret offer of assistance by the US.

'Turkish policeman, eight PKK members killed in clashes'

At least nine people, including one policeman, have been killed in clashes between police and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in Turkey’s southeastern province of Sirnak...

Heavy fighting erupted after PKK members attacked the building of Sirnak provincial government, a police department and a police checkpoint with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades on Sunday.

Law enforcement agents have cordoned off the area and launched manhunt operations to arrest PKK members involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, Turkish troops backed by jets, launched an offensive against the Kurdish rebels in Sirnak.

Clashes between Turkish troops and PKK fighters have intensified in recent months.

Six Turkish soldiers and three PKK members were killed in overnight clashes along a highway in the remote province of Hakkari bordering Iraq and Iran.

PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region inside Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead.

Washington supports terrorists inside and outside Syria

barack-obama-and-ban-ki-moon.jpgOctober 29, 2012 - In two identical letters directed to the Chairman of the UN Security Council and UN Secretary General, the Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said on Monday stressed that the failure of the UN Security Council to condemn the bombing which took place in Daf al-Shouk neighborhood has encouraged terrorists to continue committing crimes against the Syrian people.

In the two letters which the Ministry demanded by issued as official Security Council and UN General Assembly documents under counter-terrorism articles, the Ministry said that on Monday October 29, 2012, a car bomb explosion shook a neighborhood in the town of Jarmana south of Damascus, resulting in the death of 11 citizens and injuring over 20, in addition to causing grave material damage to building to surrounding buildings and shops.

The letters said that this bombing took place in a town where Syrian Muslims and Christians of various sects coexist, and that it is one of the devastating bombings that took place in Syria during Eid al-Adha holiday, noting that the Syrian government announced its commitment to the cessation of military operations during this holiday, pointing out that the failure of the UN Security Council to condemn the bombing which took place in Daf al-Shouk neighborhood has encouraged terrorists to continue committing crimes against the Syrian people.

The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry went on to say that the US and some European and western countries disrupted the issuing Security Council statements that condemn the bloody terrorism claiming dozens of lives of women, children and the elderly in Syria, with the last such incident being when the UK, a permanent UNSC member, objected to issuing a statement condemning the bombing carried out by terrorist elements in Daf al-Shouk, a neighborhood in Damascus, which claimed the lives of many martyrs and wounded many others, in addition to destroying tens of houses.

The Ministry said that the disruption of such procedures by countries that claim to combat international  terrorism cannot be interpreted as anything other than practical support for terrorism and terrorists, noting that the US, France, Germany and Britain take turns among themselves to disrupt these procedures every time terrorists commit their crimes in Syria under blatant excuses and allegations that clearly indicate the existence of an agenda targeting the Syrian people, their achievements and their civilization, as well as constituting blatant proof of detestable double standards.

NATO members have both sold and donated a wide range of weapons to Turkey, including more than 500 combat aircraft, 500 combat helicopters, 5,000 tanks, and thousands of artillery pieces, mortars, machine guns and assault rifles. The United States has been Turkey's main supplier, providing about 80% of Turkey's arsenal. Over the past decade (up to 1995), the US Congress has appropriated $5.3 billion in military aid (grants and loans to purchase weapons) for Turkey, making Turkey the third largest recipient of US military aid (after Israel and Egypt).

Turkey has recently invited bids for the supply of four early warning aircraft (AWACS) (mid-1998). The contract is worth around $1 billion. The aircraft would enable Turkey not only to command and control its own airspace but also that of the surrounding region. Likely suppliers are Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grunman, and Israel Aircraft Industries.

After US and UK, Germany is the largest weapons supplier to Turkey. Germany is currently trying to sell Turkey 1,000 Leopard II main battlefield tanks.

Photo 1: While Merkel hailed the progress of reforms undertaken by Athens, 30,000 protesters brandishing banners reading "You are not welcome, Imperialisten Raus" (Imperialists out) or "No to the Fourth Reich", vented their anger against the budgetary discipline preached by the German leader. The BBC which is participating in the ongoing war propaganda of NATO, said in a special
broadcast
with the photo on the background that the 'democratic countries are worried about the growing neo-nazism'. It is in this way that Western citizens are misled all the time.

Photo 2: On October 4, 2012, Adm. But the smiling faces and the latest news from the Turkish government tell us everything about the 'democratic' war plans they made.

Who's is reponsible for terrorist acts in Syria ?

Obama.Ban+Ki+Moon+World+Leaders.jpg

1) Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

2) British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain would step up its support for the armed groups in Syria, providing them with an additional £5 million (US$7.8 million). The money is used for bomb attacks in Syria.

3) An official source told a SANA reporter that the seized arms included Nato sniper rifles, machineguns, hunting rifles, explosive devices of various weights, devices for remote control detonation and an amount of batteries and electrical wires.

4) Belgian Senator Nele Lijnen said that she intends to launch a discussion at the Belgian Senate regarding the fact that the terrorists in Syria possess weapons made in Belgium.

5) The Swiss Authorities announced that they are investigating into information published by Sonntags Zeitung newspaper about hand grenades used by armed terrorist groups in Syria.

6) The weapons and military equipment recently discovered and seized by the Syrian Army in Idlib province proves NATO's arms and logistic support for terrorists in Syria.

7) The seized weapons in Salqain district in Idlib included 7.26 guns along with other weapons as well as boxes of gunshots with the words "NATO BALL" carved on them.

8) The Lebanese army intelligence has seized a large quantity of wea Lutfallah II container pons hidden inside cars aboard an Italian ship at Tripoli port, north of Lebanon, Lebanese security sources told Al-Manar TV.

9) This comes just days after the Lebanese Army Marines confiscated Lutfallah II arms shipment off the Lebanese port of Batoun while it was carrying 300,000 pounds of weapons within three containers. Reports said the cargo ship, which was flying the flag of Sierra-Leone, had left Libya and was bound to Syria.

10) Lebanese terrorist Mohammad Hussein Fares confessed to participating in smuggling weapons, militants and journalists into Syria and committing terrorists acts against Syrians.

11) Fares said that they smuggled assault rifles, RPG rounds, sniper rifles, LAW missiles, machineguns and cases of ammo, delivering them to Amoun, with al-Jarban coming later to distribute them among terrorists.

12) US, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are arming AL-QAEDA Terrorists to commit Terrorism in Syria.

13) Over 30,000 various weapons have been channelled to Syria since unrest flared up there in April last year, Amin Khteit says. The overall amount of explosives makes up 300 tons. The deliveries were made by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They depend on the United States, which is making every effort to overpower Syria.

14) The authorities seized weapons smuggled from Turkey in Tal Abyad area on the Syrian-Turkish borders in Raqqa countryside.

15) A Turkish parliamentarian has stressed that Turkish ambulances are transporting weapons to terrorist groups in Syria, expressing their opposition to Ankara's policies on the Syrian case.

Syria before UN: 'New Colonial Policies Under Pretext of Humanitarian Intervention'

Al-Moallem.jpg

Al-Moallem: Well-Known Countries Pursue New Colonial Policies Under Pretext of Humanitarian Intervention

Oct 01, 2012

NEW YORK, (SANA) - Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem
on Monday delivered a speech before the United Nations General
Assembly.

Following the full text of al-Moallem's speech

Mr. Vuk Jeremic President of the 67th session of the General Assembly,
Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to congratulate you and your friendly country, the
Republic of Serbia, on your election as President of the General
Assembly at its current session, and to wish you success in conducting
our work in a way that brings back to the President of the General
Assembly its important and neutral role in fulfilling his duties away
from any political, national or international agendas that violate the
rules of international law and contradict efforts to achieve security
and stability in the world. We also wish success to the Secretary
General of the United Nations in carrying out his duties in enhancing
the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United
Nations.

Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen, Our contemporary world faces many
events that are affecting its states, and continue to cast their
shadow on the international scene. Many countries are facing
political, economic and financial crises which exceed the capacity of
States to cope with their consequences individually. While the peoples
of the world wait to see effective and coordinated international
efforts to overcome those crises, the reality indicates, instead, the
escalation of hegemony and domination on the fortunes of nations and
peoples in a way that contradicts the principles and purposes
enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of
international law. Instead of seeking to contribute to the settlement
of regional and international disputes by peaceful means, some
well-known countries continue to pursue new colonial policies based on
political hypocrisy in dealing with those crises, under the pretext of
humanitarian intervention these countries interfere in domestic
affairs of states, and impose unilateral economic sanctions that lack
moral and legal basis, and under the pretext of concepts such as
"Responsibility to Protect", drums of war are beaten, and sedition and
unrest are spreading and damaging the structure of national societies.
Perhaps, worse of all, is to see permanent members of the Security
Council, who launched wars under the pretext of combating terrorism,
now support terrorism in my country without any regard to the United
Nations resolutions that established the regulations and mechanisms
for concerted international efforts to fight this scourge away from
political polarization and double standards.

Mr. President,

For more than one year now, my country has been facing organized
terrorism, that affected our citizens, our human and scientific
resources, national establishments, and also much of Syria's historic
and archeological landmarks through terrorist bombings, assassinations
and massacres, looting and sabotage activities that horrified citizens
in many parts of Syria. The latest example of this terrorist bombing
took place recently in Damascus on 26 / 9 / 2012. A terrorist group
with the name of "Jabhat al-Nosrah", one of the al-Qaeda arms, took
the responsibility of this attack. It is no surprise that the Security
Council failed to condemn this and other terrorist bombings, because
some of its members are supporting such acts. This terrorism which is
externally supported is accompanied by unprecedented media provocation
based on igniting religious extremism sponsored by well-known states
in the region to facilitate the flow of arms, money and fighters
through the borders of some neighboring countries. Those states either
turn a blind eye to the activities of terrorist groups crossing their
borders, or provide active material and logistical support from their
territory for armed terrorist groups. These facts make me question
whether this international consensus by our states on combating
terrorism was serious, or it was just merely ink on paper? In what
context can we classify the explicit request of the United States from
the armed terrorist groups not to surrender their arms as a response
to amnesty decrees and decisions issued by the Syrian leadership? We
also wonder to what extent the statements of Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
Turkey, the United States, and France that clearly induce and support
terrorism in Syria with money, weapons and foreign fighters, are in
line with the international responsibilities of these countries in
combating terrorism. One of the ironies that we face is represented by
encouraging the extremists in countries within and outside our region
to go to the borders of Syria, and enter country, to carry out
terrorist acts under the name of "jihad" in collaboration with
terrorists from the inside, and this is a fact confirmed by reports of
both international and Arab observers. Until today, and as a result of
this terrorism, Syria has lost thousands of martyrs from the military
and civilians as a price of its quest to defend the integrity of the
Syrian state and its citizens in the face of this global terrorist
campaign.

Mr. President, The Syrian government has the initiative to call for
dialogue at the beginning of the events that took place, without that
call finding any positive response from most opposition parties. Also,
My Government responded positively throughout the crisis for each
sincere initiative that aims to help finding a peaceful solution based
on national dialogue among Syrians, and rejects external manipulation,
and emphasizes preserving the blood of the Syrians and the unity of
Syria and its future. Based on this principled position, and despite
the conviction of the Syrian leadership that there are no sincere
intentions from some regional and international parties that push for
the escalation of the Syrian crisis and fueling its fie and prolonging
it through thwarting all attempts for dialogue, and insisting on
creating a state of instability to ensure the need for foreign
interference, despite all that, Syria cooperated with the Arab
Observers Mission, and the subsequent international initiatives linked
to the work of the UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan. Syria, out of
principle, received the United Nations Supervision Mission in Syria
(UNSMIS), and provided it with all the facilities that enabled it to
deploy in an unprecedented record time. The Syrian leadership, also,
announced its full commitment to the implementation of the Six Point
Plan presented by Mr. Annan, and started the practical implementation
of its provisions. It, also, welcomed the Geneva Communiqué that
stressed the need for the implementation of these provisions, but the
behavior of the armed groups that sought to exploit the Syrian
government's commitment to the plan and the Geneva Communiqué to
achieve gains on the ground and expand the area of their presence, in
addition to the statements issued by some Western and Arab countries,
all this clarified who are the actors and states working to thwart all
these Initiatives.

Syria has welcomed the appointment of Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi as the
Special Representative of the Secretary-General to succeed Mr. Annan,
and stressed its willingness to fully cooperate with him on the
principles agreed upon by the international community, particularly
the Six-Point Plan. I would like to tell you that the success of any
international effort requires, in addition to the commitment of the
Syrian government, committing these states supporting armed groups in
my country, particularly Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Libya and
others, to stop arming, funding, training and harboring armed
terrorist groups, and instead to encourage dialogue and renounce
violence.

Mr. President, For more than one year now, Syria has been saying that
what my country is witnessing is a two-sided problem: the first side
is linked to the need for political, economic and social reforms
demanded by the public; the second is the exploitation of those needs
and demands for objectives that are completely different from the
demands of the Syrian people and their interests, and make these
peaceful demands as a ladder for armed groups working to sow sedition
and undermine security in my country. I referred to this in my speech
from this podium last year. I come back today to tell you that the
state in Syria made serious and important reform steps that culminated
in a new constitution that embraces political pluralism, and was
adopted by referendum; consequently parliamentary elections, which
were open to multiple political parties, took place and, Now I tell
you that Syria is continuing to work with the patriotic components in
the opposition to build a new and pluralistic Syria that responds to
the aspirations of its people, and is determined at the same time to
carry her duties in protecting her people from jihadist and takfiri
terrorism, through which armed terrorist groups are working to spread
chaos and create sedition among Syrians and threaten their peaceful
coexistence.

Mr. President,

We heard calls from this podium, and on other platforms, some calls
from those who are ignorant of the facts or maybe ignoring them, or
also from those who are shareholders in exacerbating them, that
invites the President of the Syrian Arab Republic to step down. This
is a blatant interference in the domestic affairs of Syria, and the
unity of its people and its sovereignty.

The Syrian people is the only part authorized to choose its own future
and the shape of its own state that accommodates all groups and
spectrum of the Syrian people, including those who were deceived and
chose the wrong way. The Syrian people is the one to choose its
leadership through the ballot box which represents the most important
way of democracy and expression. If some countries that interfere in
the internal affairs of Syria are proud of their democracy and freedom
of decision of their people, the, it is better for those people to
choose its leadership through elections whose form is defined by the
new constitution and relevant laws, and then the ballot box will have
the final say.

I say to those countries enough illusions, and I invite the national
opposition to work together to stop the shedding of Syrian blood, and
to sit at the dialogue table and participate in the making of the
present and the future of Syria. We don’t bet on any party or factor
apart from the Syrian people which is determined, in all its
components, to reject all forms of foreign interference in its
domestic affairs, and to defeat the advocates of the project of
sectarianism, extremism and terrorism, because the bond is very strong
in my country between state policies and the aspirations of the
people.

Mr. President, Despite all that I said about what my country is
experiencing, we still believe in political solution as an essential
way to exit out of the crisis, and I call from this platform for:

First: all parties and political groups, inside and outside Syria, to
a constructive dialogue under the umbrella of the homeland, and the
doors of Syria, as is her heart, are open to anyone who wants
construction and dialogue. To achieve this, I call all countries
represented in the General Assembly to exert pressure to end violence
in my country through ending of arming, financing, harboring and
training of terrorist groups.

Second: the results of this national dialogue, after agreement by all
parties, will be the map and the future way of the country in
establishing a more pluralistic and democratic Syria.

Mr. President, These events in Syria have led to growing humanitarian
needs in several key sectors in areas affected by the terrorism of
Takfiri groups, which led to the worsening of the living conditions of
the Syrian citizens there. While my government is working hard to meet
the basic needs of citizens who have been forced by the violence of
the armed groups to flee their homes, some have sought to fabricate a
refugee crisis through inciting armed groups to intimidate Syrian
civilians in border areas and forcing them to flee to neighboring
countries. There, they are either accommodated in military training
camps, or in what resembles places of detention, amid arid of rugged
regions, and exploited their plight to get aid spent mostly on goals
that have no relevance to humanitarian objectives. I appeal from this
podium to those Syrian citizens to return to their towns and villages
where the state will guarantee their safe return and their precious
lives away from inhuman conditions they suffer in these camps.

At this point let me ask a legitimate question about the credibility
of those who claim to care for providing humanitarian assistance as a
response to the needs of the Syrians, and the consistency of those
claims with the policy of tightening economic sanctions that badly
affect the living conditions of the Syrian citizens. How can imposing
sanctions on the banking, health and transport sectors be consistent
with caring for the best interest of the Syrians? I also wonder if the
legitimate public demands of our citizens, to which the Syrian
leadership responded transparently and sincerely, can justify their
use as an excuse to continue providing all forms of military,
financial and media support to those killing innocent people in Syria,
including journalists, doctors, university professors and even
religious dignitaries? Or is this the practical interpretation of the
concept of "creative chaos" which only serve the expansionist
interests of Israel?

Mr. President, What is happening in my country must not make us lose
our basic compass which is Palestine and the Golan Heights, therefore
the Syrian Arab Republic confirms its adherence to her natural right
to restore the full occupied Syrian Golan up to the line of June 6th,
1967, and its refusal of all the measures taken by Israel, the
occupying power, to change the natural, geographical and demographic
aspects in clear violation of the relevant resolutions of the Security
Council, particularly its resolution No 497 of 1981. Syrian renews its
support for the legitimacy of recognition by international community
of a free and independent Palestinian State on the Palestinian
territories occupied in 1967.

The failure of efforts to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the
Middle East on the basis of international terms of reference adopted
by the international community as a basis for peace between
Palestinians and Israelis is due, as everyone knows, to the unilateral
positions and actions of Israel, particularly Israel's insistence on
continuing its settlement policy and evasion of requirements of peace.

Mr. President, My country renews the call for the international
community to work to free the Middle East of all weapons of mass
destruction, and we remind in this context of the initiative presented
by Syria during its membership of the Security Council by the end of
2003, and the call upon the Council to adopt it. Syria stresses that
evacuating the region of all weapons of mass destruction is
unachievable without forcing Israel, the only nuclear power in the
region, to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and to put its
nuclear facilities under the inspection of the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA). At the same time we emphasize on what is
stipulated in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty of the light of all
States to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Mr. President, The insistence of the United States and countries of
the European Union and others to adopt unilateral economic measures
contradicts the regulations of international law and the principles of
free trade, and raises questions about the legality and morality of
such practices. Based on this, we call for the lifting of the embargo
imposed on Cuba by the United States for decades. We also renew our
call for the lifting and stopping of all unilateral coercive measures
imposed on the peoples of other countries, such as Venezuela, Belarus,
Iran, Syria and the DPRK.

Mr. President, Our aspiration to achieve a positive reform of the
international organization stems from our desire to find a world based
on justice, security and prosperity for all the peoples of the world,
away from the colonial tendencies of some countries that seek to
exploit the United Nations to achieve their own interests at the
expense of other countries. We are all hope that the United Nations
can take the people of the world to a better future that fulfills
their aspirations in life, coexistence, development and food
sufficiency away from all forms of tension, confrontation and wars,
pursuant to what is established by the United Nations Charter
principles and purposes seeking to preserve the sovereignty of States
and equality among them in rights and duties.

Thank you, Mr. President.

Syria: Complaints against Turkish government officials

Turkish MP Files Complaint against AKP Government Officials over Policy towards Syria

Sep 25, 2012

ANKARA, (SANA)- Criticism of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government's policy towards Syria from inside Turkey reached high levels with MPs filing complaints against the government officials over its violation of the Turkish constitution and laws in its dealing with Syria.

MP Hurşit Güneş from the Republican People's Party (CHP) filed to the Public Prosecution a complaint against the Turkish Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Defense Minister and Interior Minister, in addition to the Governor of Iskenderun city.

Cumhuriyet newspaper quoted Güneş as saying in a press conference at the CHP HQ that the Turkish government is training gunmen in the Turkish territories, transferring weapons into Syria and providing all forms of aid and support to armed members fighting in Syria.

Güneş presented during the conference photos of Syrian opposition members carrying weapons in Istanbul and pictures of camps where gunmen are being trained in Turkey.

The MP stressed that the AKP government breached Article 92 of the Turkish constitution by deploying foreign military forces on Turkish territory without the Turkish Parliament's approval, saying that this deployment and the interference in the Syrian internal affairs in a way that endangers Turkey's security is a violation of the laws.

Turkish Admiral: Turkish Government Plays the Agent in the War against Syria

For his part, former commander of Turkish Naval Academy, Admiral Turker Erturk, stressed that the US and Israel are behind the events taking place in Syria, considering that the AKP government is playing the agent and tool in the immoral war launched against Syria.

In an article published by the Turkish Aydinlik newspaper, Adm. Erturk said the Turkish territories have turned into a terrorism base with the aim to create the conditions to pave the way for military intervention in Syria and undermine the coexistence through stirring sedition among the Syrian people.

He wondered at Turkey's help to the imperialists despite the obvious fact that fragmenting Syria would lead to the fragmenting of Turkey and inflaming the whole region.

Adm. Erturk said all the illegal practices and measures taken by the Turkish government are in the service of the "Great Middle East" project of the US and Israel.

Belgian weapons and jihadists in Syria

terrorist.weapons1.jpg

August 3, 2012

The Belgian State Security "has not confirmed" the rumor that Belgian jihadists are fighting in Syria. Thursday, the newspapers 'Het Belang van Limburg' and 'Gazet van Antwerpen' argued the opposite: "The State Security confirmed the presence of" Belgium".

It is uncommon, that the Belgian State Security issued a statement Thursday to correct statements that were attributed to him: "The State Security (...) confirms that Syria is a destination for international Islamist fighters. But the State Security has not been confirmed (...) that there are Belgians among them. "    In short, if the Security denies to have confirmed does not mean - this is important - it can deny the information.

Originally Flemish newspapers relied on a report by Reuters, dated July 31, citing statements from "several rebel commanders in the north-west Syria," according to which "Muslims in Great Britain, Belgium and the United States had joined the Free Syrian Army (SLA)". On July 13th, Reuters pointed out a flood "of thousands of assault rifles Belgian FN FAL was in the hands of the rebels".

In its annual reports, the Belgian State Security explains how and why she follows people attracted by fighting abroad: there was attention for Iraq, then, from 2010, to the movement towards Pakistan-Afghanistan border area; Finally, most recently, to new locations: "If the Afghan-Pakistan area, more than Iraq, was still popular in 2010 with the majority of volunteers for jihad", the Belgian State Security wrote in his latest report, "some of them began to plot their way to Yemen, Somalia and the Caucasus". And Syria now? "Obviously. Where they are beaten, those who return and who actually participated in the fighting have gained knowledge on how to handle weapons, strategy and tactics of war," noted the Belgian State Security yesterday. "This is the central reason for the Belgian concern".

Who's responsible for terrorist acts in Syria ?

terrorist.bombing.jpg

1) Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.  Obama’s order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence “finding,” broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the terrorists oust Assad.  C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey.

12) US, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are arming AL-QAEDA Terrorists to commit Terrorism in Syria

War in Asia: Japan, China Heading Toward Armed Conflict?

Japanese bombing.China.1941.jpg

U.S. planners don't like China's development of antiship ballistic missiles that 'could threaten' the Navy's fleet of aircraft carriers, critical to the U.S. projection of power in Asia. On August 23th, 2012, Mr. Hildreth of the Congressional Research Service said the U.S. was "laying the foundations for a regionwide missile defense system that would combine U.S. ballistic missile defenses with those of regional powers, particularly Japan, South Korea and Australia".

Japan's further provocation

The Japanese government has thrown down the gauntlet before China. China should take it up with an iron resolve and crush any Japanese act of aggression.

The Japanese Cabinet decided officially on Monday to bring China's Diaoyu Islands under Japanese control, and the Japanese government is considering striking a deal soon with the "owner" of three of the islets that it wants to purchase.

The decision came a day after President Hu Jintao admonished Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda not to proceed with the "nationalization" plan.

Japan's action reveals outright disregard for our efforts for peace.

If being reasonable is no longer the right way to deal with the Japanese, we must prepare for a worse, and perhaps the worst, scenario, no matter how reluctant we are to do so.

Concrete actions are needed to show we won't retreat an inch from our duty to protect our sovereignty over these islands. Japan is turning the Diaoyu Islands into an area of conflict and is making it impossible for China and itself to have a normal relationship.

On Monday, Noda claimed that the Japanese government will bring the islands under stable and peaceful management.

That was sheer nonsense.

A thief is never a legitimate owner of stolen property. The Japanese government is not entitled to the Diaoyu Islands. These islets, regardless of claims that they are "owned" by a Japanese individual, a local government or a state, are a part of China.

It's certainly questionable if the Japanese government will prove capable of keeping them stable and peaceful.

A general election is expected to take place in Japan in November. Several of the political heavyweights who are aspiring to become the next prime minister of the country already have their eyes on the Diaoyu Islands.

Nobuteru Ishihara, secretary-general of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party and the eldest son of the right-wing Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara, is one of those who are hoping to ratchet up the tension.

Whatever the motives are behind Japan's attempts to "nationalize" the Diaoyu Islands, Japan is not and will never be the legitimate owner of them.

China publicized the territorial sea baselines of the Diaoyu Islands and other islets on Monday. Chinese boats will patrol them regularly.

Japan should prepare to face the consequences of its actions.

Alleppo: Syrian army has retaken full control

Armed Forces Continue Chasing Terrorist Groups .jpg

The Syrian army has retaken full control of a barracks in the flashpoint city of Aleppo after days of fierce clashes with armed groups fighting against the government.

A Syrian military official said on Monday that the army is now in full control of the Hanano barracks in east Aleppo, which serves as a weapons storage depot, conscript recruitment center and the headquarters of the local branch of the military police and riot police.

On Friday, anti-Damascus insurgents claimed to have taken control of parts of the base.

"The Syrian army is in total control of the Hanano barracks after fighting which came to a complete halt during the night," the source said from inside the barracks.

Meanwhile, there are reports of clashes between government troops and foreign-backed insurgents in other parts of Aleppo, including Mysar and Qadi Askar.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011.

Damascus blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists for the unrest while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the violence.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside and accuses certain Arab and Western countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, of arming and funding insurgent fighting against the government.

Belgian Senator to Launch Discussion at Senate on Possession of Belgian Weapons by Armed Opposition in Syria

Aug 14, 2012  - BRUSSELS, (SANA) – Belgian Senator Nele Lijnen said that she intends to launch a discussion at the Belgian Senate regarding the fact that the armed opposition in Syria possess weapons made in Belgium.

Lijnen will pose several questions on the issue as soon as the Senate and the Chamber of Representatives resume their work next month after the end of the summer vacation.

She stressed the need to uncover the fate of exported Belgian weapons, and that many questions must be answered as to how the weapons reached the armed opposition to Syria and to whom these weapons were actually sold and when.

Several sources indicate that the armed opposition is using Belgian weapons, with photos being published that show Belgian weapons in the hands of militants in areas in Damascus' suburbs.

It should be noted that Belgian weapons are exported to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which are supplying the Syrian opposition with weapons.

American terrorism: 'Civilian Aircraft Legitimate Targets'

terrorists.aircraft.targets.jpg

The Syrian terrorists which are weaponed and paid by the US and Britain, declare now that 'civilian aircraft are legitimate targets'.

Red Cross Chief: 'My visit to Syria Positive, Transparent'

ed Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer .jpg

Sep 7, 2012 - GENEVA, (SANA)_Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer described his recent visit to Syria and his meetings with the Syrian officials as positive and transparent, stressing that the ICRC will return to resume on-the-ground work and will cooperate with the Syrian citizens in need for humanitarian aid.

In a press conference held in Geneva on Friday, Maurer said that his talks in Damascus focused on the humanitarian issues, describing them as transparent that emphasized the importance of enhancing humanitarian aid amid the current crisis in Syria.

''We discussed the importance of increasing communication and ramping up humanitarian aid entering the country and the administrative obstacles hindering humanitarian and medical aid, as some aid doesn't make it to the country due to the import measures inside Syria. I informed the authorities on the information related to technological and administrative measures so as to be able to do our job according to the ICRC measures,'' he said.

''Second, the discussions focused on visiting the prisoners and detainees…As you know, the Syrian government allows us to visit all prisons with no exception…The ICRC visited some prisons in Syria in the last months and we discussed with the Syrian authorities the outcome of the visit and submitted our recommendations in this regard.''

Answering a question on his talks with President Bashar al-Assad, Maurer said ''the talks focused on humanitarian issues, and President al-Assad showed commitment to cooperation with us in a host of issues of paramount importance for the ICRC.''

He noted that he discussed with the Syrian authorities the importance of speeding up work and that the Red Cross and Red Crescent are granted access to the biggest number of civilians inside Syria, especially in relation to health and medical issues, adding ''We agreed to establish centers that care for the Syrian civilians inside the Syrian cities which coordinate with the authorities and monitor the implementation of commitments that we agreed upon. We also agreed that high-ranking officials follow up implementing these commitments in the Syrian cities.''

He added that he is expecting the positive outcomes of his visit to materialize on the ground, adding ''Of course I'm personally committed on behalf of the ICRC to exerting all necessary efforts in the next days and weeks to feel the progress achieved and that obstacles we saw in the past months be removed in a way that facilitates access of food and medical aid to Syria.''

Maurer added that the vandalizing the civil infrastructure had a deep impact on the lives of the Syrian people, indicating that he heard from the citizens he met news of terrorist attacks on the infrastructure, adding ''The conflict is undoubtedly an armed one unfolding in a civil atmosphere.''

He called upon all parties in Syria to engage in a political dialogue, emphasizing the importance of halting violence.

Maurer described the situation in Syria as difficult and complicated, indicating that the situation is hindering a wide-range humanitarian process inside the country.

''Security poses a grave challenge for the ICRC staff, and we want to be able to deliver humanitarian aid all over Syria, that's why we have to establish contacts with all the groups in Syria to ensure the safety of our staff.''

Asked about the numbers related to the needs of the Syrian people , Maurer said ''I know of numbers that circulated across the world on the humanitarian needs inside Syria, which I, admittedly, cannot confirm or deny. We know that we have to put more efforts for Syria and there is no doubt about it.''

He said the ICRC is delivering humanitarian aid in an independent and transparent way without anybody's interference, adding that it seeks to provide water and food and to meet the needs of the crisis-hit citizens.

Maurer paid a three-day visit to Syria that started Tuesday and held talks with President Bashar al-Assad on the mutual cooperation between the ICRC and the Syrian government.

War against Syria: American Senate, Washington 2003 (2)

McCain, Obama, AIPAC, Israel and the One Hundred Eighth United States Congress

The war against Syria was not launched to to establish a 'democratic regime'.

US Senator John McCain (photo) - a Vietnam war 'hero' and leading US Senator, called for 'Immediate Air Strikes' on the regime of Bashar Assad.

McCain is one of the many political leaders who have addressed AIPAC conferences.  AIPAC is the Israeli lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to the Congress and Executive Branch of the United States.

In January 2003, already, the One Hundred Eighth United States Congress which was the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives, was making an act 'to halt Syrian support for terrorism, end its occupation of Lebanon, and stop its development of weapons of mass destruction, and by so doing hold Syria accountable for the serious international security problems it has caused in the Middle East, and for other purposes'
McCain was one of the senators at that moment...

On November 18th 2008, US President-elect Barack Obama and his former rival John McCain vowed to work together in a "new era of reform to restore trust in government".

H.R.1828

One Hundred Eighth Congress

of the day of January, two thousand and three

United States of America

AT THE FIRST SESSION

Begun and held at the City of Washington on Tuesday,

the seventh day of January, two thousand and three

An Act

To halt Syrian support for terrorism, end its occupation of Lebanon, and stop its

development of weapons of mass destruction, and by so doing hold Syria

accountable for the serious international security problems it has caused in the

Middle East, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003'.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS.

Congress makes the following findings:

...

(16) In the State of the Union address on January 29, 2002, President Bush declared that the United States will `work closely with our coalition to deny terrorists and their state sponsors the materials, technology, and expertise to make and deliver weapons of mass destruction'.

(17) The Government of Syria continues to develop and deploy short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

(18) According to the December 2001 unclassified Central Intelligence Agency report entitled `Foreign Missile Developments and the Ballistic Missile Threat through 2015', `Syria maintains a ballistic missile and rocket force of hundreds of FROG rockets, Scuds, and SS-21 SRBMs [and] Syria has developed [chemical weapons] warheads for its Scuds'.

(19) The Government of Syria is pursuing the development and production of biological and chemical weapons and has a nuclear research and development program that is cause for concern.

(20) According to the Central Intelligence Agency's `Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction and Advanced Conventional Munitions', released January 7, 2003: `[Syria] already holds a stockpile of the nerve agent sarin but apparently is trying to develop more toxic and persistent nerve agents. Syria remains dependent on foreign sources for key elements of its [chemical weapons] program, including precursor chemicals and key production equipment. It is highly probable that Syria also is developing an offensive [biological weapons] capability.'.

(21) On May 6, 2002, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, John Bolton, stated: `The United States also knows that Syria has long had a chemical warfare program. It has a stockpile of the nerve agent sarin and is engaged in research and development of the more toxic and persistent nerve agent VX. Syria, which has signed but not ratified the [Biological Weapons Convention], is pursuing the development of biological weapons and is able to produce at least small amounts of biological warfare agents.'.

(22) According to the Central Intelligence Agency's `Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction and Advanced Conventional Munitions', released January 7, 2003: `Russia and Syria have approved a draft cooperative program on cooperation on civil nuclear power. In principal, broader access to Russian expertise provides opportunities for Syria to expand its indigenous capabilities, should it decide to pursue nuclear weapons.'.

(23) Under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (21 UST 483), which entered force on March 5, 1970, and to which Syria is a party, Syria has undertaken not to acquire or produce nuclear weapons and has accepted full scope safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency to detect diversions of nuclear materials from peaceful activities to the production of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.

(24) Syria is not a party to the Chemical Weapons Convention or the Biological Weapons Convention, which entered into force on April 29, 1997, and on March 26, 1975, respectively.

(25) Syrian President Bashar Assad promised Secretary of State Powell in February 2001 to end violations of Security Council Resolution 661, which restricted the sale of oil and other commodities by Saddam Hussein's regime, except to the extent authorized by other relevant resolutions, but this pledge was never fulfilled.

(26) Syria's illegal imports and transshipments of Iraqi oil during Saddam Hussein's regime earned Syria $50,000,000 or more per month as Syria continued to sell its own Syrian oil at market prices.

(27) Syria's illegal imports and transshipments of Iraqi oil earned Saddam Hussein's regime $2,000,000 per day.

(28) On March 28, 2003, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld warned: `[W]e have information that shipments of military supplies have been crossing the border from Syria into Iraq, including night-vision goggles * * * These deliveries pose a direct threat to the lives of coalition forces. We consider such trafficking as hostile acts, and will hold the Syrian government accountable for such shipments.'.

(29) According to Article 23(1) of the United Nations Charter, members of the United Nations are elected as nonpermanent members of the United Nations Security Council with `due regard being specially paid, in the first instance to the contribution of members of the United Nations to the maintenance of international peace and security and to other purposes of the Organization'.

(30) Despite Article 23(1) of the United Nations Charter, Syria was elected on October 8, 2001, to a 2-year term as a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council beginning January 1, 2002, and served as President of the Security Council during June 2002 and August 2003.

(31) On March 31, 2003, the Syrian Foreign Minister, Farouq al-Sharra, made the Syrian regime's intentions clear when he explicitly stated that `Syria's interest is to see the invaders defeated in Iraq'.

(32) On April 13, 2003, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld charged that `busloads' of Syrian fighters entered Iraq with `hundreds of thousands of dollars' and leaflets offering rewards for dead American soldiers.

(33) On September 16, 2003, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, John Bolton, appeared before the Subcommittee on the Middle East and Central Asia of the Committee on International Relations of the House of Representatives, and underscored Syria's `hostile actions' toward coalition forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Under Secretary Bolton added that: `Syria allowed military equipment to flow into Iraq on the eve of and during the war. Syria permitted volunteers to pass into Iraq to attack and kill our service members during the war, and is still doing so * * * [Syria's] behavior during Operation Iraqi Freedom underscores the importance of taking seriously reports and information on Syria's WMD capabilities.'.

(34) During his appearance before the Committee on International Relations of the House of Representatives on September 25, 2003, Ambassador L. Paul Bremer, III, Administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, stated that out of the 278 third-country nationals who were captured by coalition forces in Iraq, the `single largest group are Syrians'.

SEC. 3. SENSE OF CONGRESS.

It is the sense of Congress that--

(1) the Government of Syria should immediately and unconditionally halt support for terrorism, permanently and openly declare its total renunciation of all forms of terrorism, and close all terrorist offices and facilities in Syria, including the offices of Hamas, Hizballah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine--General Command;

(2) the Government of Syria should--

(A) immediately and unconditionally stop facilitating transit from Syria to Iraq of individuals, military equipment, and all lethal items, except as authorized by the Coalition Provisional Authority or a representative, internationally recognized Iraqi government;

(B) cease its support for `volunteers' and terrorists who are traveling from and through Syria into Iraq to launch attacks; and

(C) undertake concrete, verifiable steps to deter such behavior and control the use of territory under Syrian control;

NAM.jpg

Egypt’s President Mohammed Mursi chose the occasion of 16th NAM summit to slam the "oppressive" Syrian regime.  Egypt is considered one of the United States' strongest allies in the Middle East and Arab World...

Al-Moallem: The Syrian Delegation Withdrew from NAM Summit during Speech of the Summit's Former President

Aug 30, 2012 - TEHRAN (SANA)

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Walid al-Moallem, on Thursday stressed that the Syrian delegation went out from the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit currently held in Tehran while the former president of the summit, Mohammad Mursi, was delivering his speech.

Al-Moallem said the Syrian delegation's withdrawal from the meeting came in protest of the content of Mursi's speech which constituted a breach of the conventions of the summit's presidency and an interference in Syria's internal affairs and in rejection of the instigation for continuing the shedding of the Syrian blood included in the speech.

The Minister added that the Syrian delegation to the NAM summit reentered to follow up the summit's activities after the end of Mursi's speech.

Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi.CLINTON.JPG

On July 16th 2012, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held talks with the leader of Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) junta, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, and Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in Cairo.

During her visit Clinton assured Tantawi that the Egyptian military junta which shortly before the run-off in the Egyptian presidential election, dissolved the Islamist-dominated parliament and had taken over all legislative and budgetary powers and the drafting of a new constitution, has the 'full support of Washington'.

Clinton told Mursi “that there are certain things that the US expects from Egypt” in exchange for its continued financial support. One US demand is that Egypt continue the Mubarak regime’s pro-US foreign policy.

One of the main issues discussed, according to an official speaking to Al-Ahram Online, is Egypt’s continuing commitment to the three-decades-old peace deal with Israel. The diplomat said that the US expects “Egypt to use the good ties that link the Muslim Brotherhood with the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip to curtail any plans that Hamas might have towards escalation with Israel.”

The US also expected Mursi to continue limiting Egypt’s relations with Iran.

Mursi signaled that he and the Brotherhood were willing to cooperate closely with Washington and that the US can consider the Egyptian military the main defender of its interests and a force to control the Islamists.

During and after the meeting between Clinton and Mursi, thousands of protesters gathered outside the US embassy and Clinton’s hotel to denounce US interference in Egypt and the MB’s collaboration with Washington.

After her visit in Cairo, Clinton continued on to Israel, reportedly to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and the war in Syria with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and President Shimon Peres...

BEIRUT, (SANA) – Syria's Ambassador in Lebanon, Ali Abdul-Karim Ali, reiterated on Thursday that Syria is committed to sustaining best relations with Lebanon, pointing out that the fraternal relationship and the agreements signed between the two countries should be respected.

In an interview with al-Nour Radio, Ambassador Abdul-Karim stressed that smuggling weapons and gunmen through the Syrian-Lebanese borders contradicts the 'dissociation policy' which was adopted by the Lebanese Government towards the events in Syria.

He added that western experts and gunmen have crossed the borders into Syria; some of them were arrested and others confessed to killing and slaughtering Syrian civilians and military officers.

MOSCOW, (SANA) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Gennady Gatilov, stressed that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has acknowledged in a letter to the chairman of the Security Council concerning the implementation of the international resolution on settling the situation in Syria that the armed opposition shoulder the responsibility of escalating violence in Syria in general, and in Aleppo in particular.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a letter sent to France’s Representative to the UN Gérard Araud, who is chairing the UN Security Council currently,  that members of the armed opposition had launched attacks in Damascus and Aleppo.
