September 15, 2012 - CAIRO — From Tunis to Cairo to Jakarta, Indonesia, the Muslim world erupted in protests aimed at the United States on Friday as anger over the video that mocks the prophet Muhammad boiled over into assaults on embassies or demonstrations in nearly two dozen countries.

On Saturday morning, after four days of violent protests, hundreds of Egyptian security forces, some of them in plainclothes, pushed protesters out of Tahrir Square and made arrests, witnesses said.

In Sydney, riot police clashed with about 200 protesters at the U.S. Consulate as demonstrations spread to Australia, the Associated Press reported. Hundreds of protesters also gathered outside the American embassy in Damascus — which has been closed since February — on Saturday to protest the controversial video, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Anti-U.S. protests spread to Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Britain, East Jerusalem, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Pakistan, Qatar, Syria, Turkey, the West Bank and Yemen.
