Brendan Lillis: 'Minister Ford has no power to release him'

FordIndiaTimes.jpg'THEY GIVE THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY ARE BEING MISTREATED'
Friday, 7 May 2010 -
Ford condemns dissident action at Maghaberry

Speaking of the incident that took place in Roe House at Maghaberry Prison he said: “This is the latest in a series of actions by a small number of prisoners, designed to form the impression that they are being mistreated. Just as their allies outside the prisons are trying to take Northern Ireland backwards by their campaign of violence, these prisoners are trying to take prisons backwards. They seem determined to create conditions which they will then complain about, but they will have no-one to blame but themselves.”

The police are now investigating and criminal charges may ensue against the prisoners involved.

Justice minister's secretary (02890763000): 'David Ford has no power to release Brendan, the British government has all the power to free him'.

During the latest months, there were 5 deaths in the Maghaberry prison of Northern Ireland.

Brendan Lillis: Hungerstrike 21.7.2011, Anderstown Police Station

PRESS RELEASE

Brendan Lillis is currently a prisoner in Maghaberry Prison where he is serving a sentence for explosive offences in 1976. Brendan suffers from the condition ankylosing spondylitis and has been confined to bed for the best part of the past two years. Brendan Lillis is no threat to anybody, Brendan Lillis is dying and has been abandoned by an entire political system which is more interested in making statements about his condition than in applying their political power to remedy the situation.
We call for the immediate release of Brendan Lillis to his partner Roisin so that whatever time Brendan has left on this earth be spent with his immediate family. Brendan Lillis can not walk, he can not get up from his bed. He is incapacitated, and he is being left alone to die in a prison cell. We have seen enough of our people die in prison cells and find the manner in which Brendan is being treated as an obscenity.
A hunger strike in support of Brendan Lillis will commence this Thursday, 21st July at the site of the old Andersonstown Barracks. Roisin Lynch, partner of Brendan Lillis will be joined by old comrades of Brendan’s from the Blanket protest days and other former prisoners and concerned individuals. The action is designed to highlight Brendan’s case and the lack of any movement in securing his release from the politicians who know Brendan and knew him as a Blanketman.
Time is fast running out for Brendan Lillis and he should be released immediately. We call on all people concerned with this grave injustice to come along on Thursday, Friday or Saturday and register your support for a sick and dying man being held hostage by a vindictive and punitive regime. Ends.

Brendan Lillis is dying: Call for help of Amnesty International

Some months ago, Nadezhda Banchik, member of Amnesty International USA, called for the release of Commander Arbi Zarmaev, a political prisoner who was very sick and was isolated, tortured and treated with neuroleptics in Bruges prison (Belgium).

Can she do the same for Brendan Lillis who is dying in the Maghaberry prison of Northern Ireland ?

Brendan Lillis, a 59 year old former Life-sentence political prisoner from West Belfast, in Ireland, is currently desperately ill in the medical wing of the notorious Maghaberry prison, in County Antrim. He suffers from the intensely painful and progressive disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis which due to other medical complications has left himunable to move from his bed for 14 months and his weight has dropped to a perilous 6 stones (38.1 Kilos !). The doctor said her that he will live only 10 days now.

Arbi Zarmaev: Letter of Mrs Nadezhda Banchik to Minister Stefaan De Clerck

San Jose, April 20, 2011

Being a member of Amnesty International USA, and in addition, being myself an emigrant from the former Soviet Union, I am completely devastated hearing about the plight of Mr. Arbi Zarmaev, a Chechen, an asylum seeker from Chechnya. I was entirely desperate learning that Mr. Zarmaev was arrested in Belgium and subjected to beating and torture via forcible deprivation of food and drinking water, shackling, and sleep deprivation.

Information about torturing of any prisoner in Belgium, the EU member country, renown for its adherence to human rights and law obedience, make me think that our entire world is moving towards a new Holocaust, since the Holocaust was made possible when Western world completely rejected any protection for a human life at all and for a certain ethnic group in particular. That time such a group were Jews. This time, it seems to me, the Chechens are made an ethnic group for trade-off deals with criminal Russian regime.

I am afraid not only for a Chechen young man who is "guilty" only of defending his homeland from marauders, murders and robbers known to the whole world as Russian mafia state. It seems that Belgium authorities secretly decided to make Arbi Zarmaev slowly dying behind grates just for secret deal with Russian criminals! I am also afraid of your country’s reputation as reliable and law-obedient, human-rights protected country belonging to the Western civilization, that just recently was considered moral leader of the whole world. No more humane place in this world? No more Geneva Convention for a tiny group that was unlucky to be designed international scapegoat in the epoch of international "anti-terrorism" war?! But who is a bigger terrorist in this case? A Chechen who was forced to take arms to defend his home or the second army in the world that bombed out his homeland to rubbles?! Do you know that Russia killed more than 250,000 Chechens, including 40,000 children? And how many people did Arbi Zarmaev really killed? Ask him, please.

I urge you Mr. Minister, to do everything you can to stop this embarrassing case for your country. I hope you can urge your subordinates to free Arbi Zarmaev because he is not a criminal. In the worst, he could be considered prisoner of the war. However, in this case he is eligible for Geneva Convention protection. Anyway, he is eligible for Geneva Convention protection as an asylum seeker from the armed conflict zone.

Sincerely and hopeful

Nadezhda Banchik, Amnesty International USA member

WHO's European Healthy Cities Network: 'striving for health'...

On 24.5.2011 WHO's European Healthy Cities Network said that it had hit a Phase V milestone because 90 cities designated in Phase V of Healthy Cities. The cities of Galway in Ireland and Istanbul and Trabzon in Turkey were congratulated because they joined other cities working toward the common goal of striving for health and healthy equity in all local policies.

UN responsible for the creation of an ‘ethnically homogeneous’ Israel

On the request of Tel Aviv and Washington, the UN blocks all the resolutions critical of Israel. Thus the UN is also reponsible for the realization of Israel’s plan to create a State ethnically homogeneous from the Mediterranean Sea until the Jordan…
———
On November 15, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for urging his cabinet to accept a U.S. proposal to extend a freeze on West Bank settlement building for 90 days.
Under the plan, Washington would block UN resolutions critical of Israel, and supply Israel with fighter jets worth $3 billion. The US government also promisedIsrael that after the 90-day moratorium, they would not seek an extension, and settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (all of which is illegal under international law) could continue unabated.
In February 2011, more than 100 nations voted for a U.N. resolution that would have condemned illegal Israeli settlements and halted any new construction. The United States vetoed it.
On February 19, 2011, Israel said it was deeply grateful to the United States after it vetoed a United Nations resolution put forward by the Palestinian leadership condemning Israeli settlement activity.

Since 2001, Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs and leader of Israel’s far right party, Avigdor Lieberman, proposes to establish four townships in the occupied West Bank, hermetically sealed, which would be grouped the Palestinians. He sees it as a solution for the Palestinian citizens of Israel, who are more than one million, to move the vast majority of the group in tightly closed, self-administered areas.
Thus would arise a State ethnically homogeneous from the Mediterranean Sea until the Jordan, sheltering in its midst Palestinian “Bantustans”.

Latest news about Brendan Lillis (8.7.2011)

People testify:

'I only get to see bl 2 hours a week. His arm is white and the rest of him is a bit red. He cant move his fingers and sleeps most of the time. I havnt seen any difference yet as i dont get to see him much. and the commissioners meeting is expected to last 8 hours 4 hours per day, 18th and 19th July. The 1st day is focusing on if brendan is or can become a danger to the public, both physically or mentally ie masterminding a crime... the 2nd day will focus on his health'

'He cant even roll a feg ni someone dose it for him plus they will have to give him more morphine for the pain of moveing hin, sh hell be high as a kite.'

'He is laying flat on his side, he said he was really hot on my last visit with him and the bed sheets were soaken with sweat . they have been trying to take blood but the vains keep collapsing not sure if they have got any yet. and they run out of the urine cardboard things he uses to pass water in . so he has to keep using the same 1 they rinse it at the sink in his cell. And the unit beside his bed is stinking. he trys to drink water but it comes back up. he sips tea through a straw.'

'Probably has to lie on his side because of his back pain. It probably hurts when he puts any pressure on the fused part.'

'Thats the way hes been laying for months, he cant get onto his back at all with the pain, thats why they took his tooth out in his cell bed its the only position he can just about tolerate. The slightest movement makes him cry out.'

'I am sitting here weeping for him. I feel so helpless as must you. His condition is critical, he needs to be transported straight to an intensive care unit. I have sent an e-mail to the DOJ in Belfast. I am letting them know my concerns and that the world is watching. I hope something works. I will not sleep until I know this man is getting proper care.'

'He could be going septic. Make sure they are checking his temp, BP and P frequently. The red flags would be increased temp decreased BP and fast but weak pulse. Are they checking his O2 sat levels? They need to give him a lot of water with the feeding or he will dehydrate even worse. They need to keep his head elevated in order to prevent aspiration of the feeding and causing pnuemonia. Are they checking any labs? OMG I wish I could be there.'

Libya: uranium bombs – Amnesty International

Yesterday, someone of Amnesty International was talking on TV about the violation of human rights in Syria. But Amnesty International says nothing about the destruction of Libya with an UN-mandate whereby Libyan civilians are bombed with uranium bombs. There were already 5.000 bombings now and also members of the future Libyan generations will die as a result of the depleted uranium in the bombs. The western ‘free’ en ‘democratic’ world does not talk about these war crimes.

Photo: Victims of US bombings with the chemical defoliant Agent Orange. The US was never condamned for these war crimes. The US president was never accused of a ‘crime against humanity’.

NATO war crimes with an UN-mandate: 5.000 uranium bombs

NATO is actually destroying Libya and kills Libyan civilians with an UN-mandate.

There were more than 5.000 bombings now and all the bombs contained Depleted Uranium (DU).

The UN knows the dangers of Depleted Uranium.  In February 2000, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), said that the pollution with Depleted Uranium detected at four environmental hot spots in Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro, was serious and posed a threat to human health.  UNEP started projects about the needs for humanitarian assistance and an environmental clean-up in Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro.
While UNEP was called a 'reference in the scientific community regarding the impacts of DU when used in a conflict situation', UN allows the further destruction of Libya with uranium bombs.

Cities in Iraq where Depleted Uranium (DU) weapons were heavily used, such as Basra, Samara, Baghdad, Mosul and probably especially Fallujah, which was virtually leveled in a November 2004 Marine assault, are showing high rates of birth defects, many of which, along with unusually high rates of leukemia, medical experts say are emblematic of fetal radiation damage.

A University of Michigan peer-reviewed study of births in Fallujah (Iraq) published in December 2010 found that of 547 births in Fallujah General Hospital in May of 2010, six years after the all-out US assault on that city of 300,000, in which DU weapons were reportedly used widely, 15% of babies had birth defects–a rate more than five times higher than the global average of 2-3%.

US, Israel + UN and the war against Libya

1) 1.3.2011- Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said he believed a no-fly zone should be imposed on Libya to stop a “danger of genocide”. Speaking at a conference in Brussels, Ayalon said international moves to impose a no-fly zone over Libya to stop Moamer Kadhafi using air strikes against his own people, ‘had not been discussed by the Israeli government’. ‘There is a danger of genocide in Libya. Morally we have to stop it and its best to have the UN’s okay,” he said. (AFP) Ayalon was the Israeli ambassador in the U.S.
2) On 2.3.2011 (one day after the visit of Danny Ayalon to Brussels where the headquarter of NATO is located), US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that a no-fly zone could be imposed on Libya, ‘in order to prevent Gaddafi from bombing his own people’. She hinted strongly that ‘direct military intervention is on the cards’ and said that ‘it is time for Gaddafi to go’.

Libyan, Greek, Turkish, U.S., Irish ships with aid for Gaza: blocked

Libyan Gaza ship.jpg

Libyan aid ship for Gaza was blocked...
On 4 July 2010, an aid group in Egypt unloaded 2,000 tons of aid supplies from the Libyan ship Amalthea. The Tripoli-based Gaddafi International Charity and Development Foundation had wanted the ship to take the supplies directly to Gaza but Israeli missile ships had been shadowing the Amalthea to ensure that it would not reach Gaza. U.S. State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley urged Libya 'to avoid confrontation and allow the Israelis to inspect the vessel'.

But the memory is short and a lot of activists were useful idiots during the campaign for the bombing of Libya. They cried for 'Democracy' and 'Freedom'.

Today all the ships with aid for Gaza are blocked by the Israeli government and the U.S. State Department.

--------

U.S. Boat to Gaza Stopped From Sailing

Dear J,

A few hours ago, we found out from activists in our member group U.S. Boat to Gaza that the Greek coast guard has prevented the U.S.-flagged ship The Audacity of Hope from sailing to the Israeli-occupied and -blockaded Palestinian Gaza Strip as part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla II--"Stay Human."

Currently, the ship is returning to port and we need your help today and throughout this holiday weekend to put pressure on Greece and the United States to allow the U.S. Boat to Gaza to sail and fulfill its mission of delivering thousands of letters of solidarity from the United States to the people of Gaza.

Demand that the United States stop threatening U.S. citizens acting peacefully to break Israel's illegal and immoral blockade of Gaza that their actions "could violate U.S. civil and criminal statutes and could lead to fines and incarceration."

Demand that the United States ensures safe passage for the flotilla and that it ends U.S. support for Israel’s illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip.
